Other software may be able to determine what hardware a particular view is being shown on - but CA explicitely changed their 3D Graphics to take advantage of the RTX cards when available. This was a very complex redesign and they evidently didn't anticipate users having 2 or more different GPUs using potentially different Drivers. I can only imagine that handling multiple graphics hardware would not be an easy thing to do - especially considering all the ramifications of going from OpenGL to DirectX. X13 was about 6 months late being released (than anticipated) and there are still updates being done to fix some problems - mostly Graphic related.

How to set Defaults for Custom Countertops?
Joe_Carrick replied to MeganLDent's topic in General Q & A
They should automatically match the Countertop Defaults for Base Cabinets. When you convert a Cabinet to have a "Custom Countertop" (special option on the Cabinet Edit Toolbar) everything should be the same but you can break edges, pull and reshape as desired. -
Simon, It might not be a problem if you can limit Chief to just the 4 monitors connected to your best GPU. Since Chief can only recognize one GPU/Driver (see Preferences>Render>Video Card Status) that might solve the problem. Your other 2 monitors could be relegated to other Apps. The errors probably occur when Chief tries to render something on a Monitor connected to the secondary GPU/Driver - which Chief doesn't know about.

Is there any information on when the next UGM will be? It would be great if there could be one next year (september-october).
-
It probably has to do with your GPUs and having your second monitor on the GTX-1080. X13 doesn't support multiple GPUs so you should connect both monitors to the RTX-3080. You might even want to uninstall the GTX-1080. This was discussed in another thread.

Kate, If there were no "Saved Plan Views" in your older Plan then you would need to use the Project Browser to "Add a Saved Plan View". The Dropdown will only show the "available" Plan Views. ie: those that appear in the Project Browser.

If you use regular walls you can pull the top of the wall down in an elevation view. You don't need to change the room height.
-
Only by adjusting the panel height which would need to be less (problem) - or creating a new panel symbol with that spacing. A new Symbol would be my choice. As a new user it would be a good exercise to learn how to create symbols.

Are Cabinet Toe Kicks Required?
Joe_Carrick replied to ACADuser's topic in Building Codes and Compliance
Toe Kicks are not required by any codes. -
The Graphic Scale is accurate regardless of the print size since it's a CAD Block created at "Real World Size" in the PLAN. I actually have it saved in the Library as a part of my "VIEW TITLE" CAD Block.
-
I provide both text and graphic scale in each view on my Layouts. This is critical because some layout boxes are at different scales. The graphic scale always governs. I also include a note in the right margin that indicates the sheet size & that if not printed at this size the drawings are "Not to Scale". I have had contractors get drawings at smaller sizes in order to "save printing costs". Usually this results in the building department rejecting the plans because the text is too small. Generally they require 1/8" text but if 3/64" they'll accept it.
-
Basically, the advantage is that you can then place as many copies as you want in the Layout. One CAD Detail Schedule can be sent to multiple Layout Pages. This has been a standard practice with Schedules in Chief for at least since version 9.0
-
and what render type are you using?
-
Only by creating and placing a 3D Symbol of an open garage door like that. Chief doesn't do this automatically.

I have a couple of extra Layout Sheet sizes that I use depending on the plan. 24" x 42" 24" x 48" Both of these are custom sizes not provided by standards. I would never use 3/16" scale. If the project is too large for even these sizes I will use a 1/8" scale "Key Plan" and 1/4" scale partial plans.

Does anybody like the wall fill when we auto detail sections?
Joe_Carrick replied to dshall's topic in General Q & A
Scott, I agree with your comments. I'm also not very fond of how difficult it is to select framing when the fill is present. The interior wall fill I simply "Move to Back" - which is where it should be in the first place if it exists at all. -
Nancy, Are all of your monitors connected to the RTX 3070? If not, it may be the port that monitor is using doesn't have the appropriate driver.
-
Rod, You might want to update your signature - assuming you are beyond X10 at this time.
-
No, Chief only includes totals for Areas (Door, Window & Room categories). It would be nice to have a Totals row for other dimensional data. Maybe a suggestion would be appropriate.
-
Yes, you can delete all of it.
-
FWIW, I've found that X13 23.2.0.55 is very sensitive to the driver veraion. Make sure you update to the latest driver for your GPU. You should check the GPU status in Preferences and then find, download and install the latest driver for that GPU.
-
Alan, Anything in the object dbx that doesn't have the little wrench next to it won't be updated when the defaults change.
-
%interior.casing.name% or just use the "Casing, Interior" column - but you have to assign the casing from the Library. If it's the Default Casing you won't get the name.

Stretch Planes are really pretty simple once you understand their rules. No Stretch Plane -> Symbol stretches and/or shrinks uniformly One or more Stretch Planes -> Symbol stretches and/or shrinks only at those locations Two Stretch Planes with Between those 2 locations -> Symbol stretches and shrinks only between those One Stretch Plane outside of the Bounding Box -> No change at all, Symbol is a fixed size You can have Stretch Planes in each direction. BTW, for most post configurations I would use the "Post" or "Post on Footing" tool - at least as a starting point. I seldom use Symbols for things that Chief can create automatically because those things have more "intelligence" than simple geometry.

Display room ceiling height in text box inside room
Joe_Carrick replied to KCrocker's topic in General Q & A
FWIW, you can insert macros inside a TB or a RTB and place it inside a room. It will display the data for that room. You can even place the TB or RTB outside of the room and add an arrow connected to the room. Of course the macros have to be room appropriate.
