  1. No, it's built-in to Chief. I use Adobe-PDF or Nuance-PDF. IMO those are much more capable and actually give better results.
  2. But you can't format the blank line
  3. No, When using a Rich Text Box, you can place the %room.name% macro on line 1 and the %room.height.ceiling% macro and any other text you want on line 2. You can set the formatting of each line (Font, Color, Size, Justification) and the border and fill for the entire RTB. Copy/paste that RTB into each Room. You can even place it outside the room and add a leader line with arrow to connect it to the room. Make sure you turn off the Room Label Layer. You've created your own custom Room Label.
  4. You also need to turn off the Layer "Rooms, Dimensions" and in the Default Room Label insert the macro as Eric pointed out on the 2nd line of the Room Label. You can also enter " Clg.Ht. " either before or after that macro. Note: If you want to control the text size to be smaller than the Room name you will need to do it all in a Rich Text Box.
  5. I called tech support about an issue I was having and they referred me to a post on Chieftalk. It was my own post. IOW, I knew more about the subject than they did. But my post didn't answer the question I had.
  6. If you place the Framing Schedule directly in a Truss Detail it will be just about perfect. You can suppress the Title since it will only apply to that particular truss. Some manual dims and you've got just about anything you could need.
  7. My tendency is to have full height panels between openings and use short walls below windows and header walls above doors and windows. I don't include panel framing in the materials list.
  8. I see a lot of problems: 1. Door to Bath 2 is way too small 2. Access to Garage is thru the Master Bath a. You would have to carry groceries thru the Mast Bath, Master Bedroom, Hall and Dining Room. Is this an existing house? The plan just doesn't make sense - if that is anything near the current layout then you should consider a complete redesign.
  9. One of my systems uses the configuration shown in my signature. I have another that uses a 55" 4K TV mounted on a sloped desk top. It's set up like a Drafting Table so I can stand or sit on a stool with my head tilted down. This works much better because I can see everything without turning my head from side to side. I have very little neck strain with that system than with the 3 smaller monitors. I'm thinking about adding a couple of 24" monitors on the wall above the drafting table so I could have eMail & Chieftalk live at all times on one of them and have my Layout and/or a 3D Perspective displayed on the other - without covering any of the Plan on the 55".
  10. So if you are going to change the displayed layers, Copy the Layer Set to a new name and make the changes on the Copy. The Annoset will remember the original so selecting the Annoset will get you back to where you want to be.
  11. Steve, The Plan File Details are linked to the Layout Template (assuming that you have sent them to the Template and saved the Template). There is no slowdown associated with this. There is no need to have the Detail Plans in the same folder as the Project Folder. In fact, only the Main Plan File and the Layout should be in that folder. By keeping the Detail Plans in a single "Detail Folder" they will always be found by any new Project's Layout created from the Layout Template. You never have to relink them. Each Layout Box knows where it's contents came from (full path and file name) so as long as that location doesn't change it will always be found.
  12. Richard, You're learning ;)
  13. Gene, Assuming you are using X8 you should be able to select the Schedule, adjust the column widths using the mouse and they should always stay those widths. If that's not the case then report it to CA Support.
  14. Add the "Edit Modes" Toolbar to your Layout View Type. This will give you the ability to quickly switch between the 4 Edit Modes. This Toolbar is handy for Plan, CAD Detail, & Layout Views. It changes how the "Edit Handles" work when using the mouse.
  15. The Defaults apply to all new rooms you create. To change the Floor Material of any Room to be different you have to select the Room and open the dbx. Then in the Structure Tab make the change to the "Floor Finish".
  16. Use 3D Trees sparingly. The generally have lots of faces and can really slow down the model.
  17. Chief doesn't provide for Counter Tops, Shelves or Partitions to be included in a Cabinet Schedule. Here's a cool trick that solves that problem: 1. Create a Base Cabinet 2. Set the Height of the Cabinet - Including the Top to be the same as the Counter Top Thickness 3. Set "Finished Floor to Top" to be what you want - normally 36" 4. In the Components dbx change the Description to "Counter Top" or "Shelf" or "Partition" - or anything else that you want. Since Chief thinks this is a "Base Cabinet" it will be included in the Cabinet Schedule. The other way to do this is to simply: 1. Marquee Select the Object (Custom Countertop, Shelf of Partition), 2. Block, set as "Treat as one Object", "Include in Schedule - Cabinet" 3. Set "Finished Floor to Top" to be what you want - normally 36" 4. In the Components dbx change the Description to "Counter Top" This will be considered as "Other" for the purpose of being included in a Cabinet Schedule.
  18. You could use a Tile Material to emulate the joints.
  19. Sure..... Only 1 "Current CAD Layer" per Annoset, but you could have 2 Annosets that use the same Layer Set. Or, you can just select the "CAD" Icon and switch the "Current CAD Layer" before placing the Blocks. btw, if you use Actual Symbols or Architectural Blocks, they will be saved in the Library on the Layer they were created on. That might be a better solution for what you're trying to do. Just make the Symbols very simple and assign your desired CAD Block as the 2D Block in the Symbol dbx.
  20. Nope.... It might be a nice feature but the current method provides IMO more flexibility. I can have a note in a block and place it on the appropriate layer simply by virtue of the Annoset I'm using. In some cases I might want the same note at a different location on a different layer. The bottom line is that having CAD placed on the "Current CAD Layer" really does make sense.
  21. CAD Blocks placed from the Library are automatically placed on the "Current CAD Layer". You can control what that is via Annosets or by simply selecting the "CAD" icon on the Toolbar and selecting the desired Layer there. I prefer the Annoset method. Whatever Annoset I'm currently using has a corresponding Default CAD Layer.
  22. Scott, You didn't include a pic, but I use a 3D Molding Polyline (draw the line along the nosings in a section view). Then add the Molding Profiles you need.
