  1. The majority of what people call workarounds here aren't so much workarounds as they are using the correct tools for the job. Granted Chief does require a handful of genuine "workarounds" in some areas, but not nearly as many as people make it sound. I think we've just become accustomed to throwing that word around and it's just kinda stuck. Truth is that the vast majority of times people have a problem requiring a workaround they're simply doing it wrong or at the least...the hard way. I think people like to call anything that's not exactly as they think it should be or like another program does it a "workaround". And regarding the idea of forgetting those complex workaround procedures and having to relearn them...I believe the truth is that most people simply don't put in the effort to actually learn how to do it right the first time (and I myself have been guilty of this as well). We come to the forum get a quick how-to answer, say thank you (maybe), fix our problem real quick and never take the time to grasp any of it. If we don't take the time to truly understand things, of course we're gonna forget them. My point...Take the time to learn and really understand how Chief works, why it does what it does, which tools to use and how and when to use them, and so on...and I think you will rarely need "workarounds" for any given task and you won't so often forget how to get it done.
  2. Hey now... Its actually already Thursday in Sydney so technically Glenn is almost a whole day late.
  3. Print>Drawing Sheet Setup>Drawing Margins
  4. You bet. This is probably a god one to send into tech support. I would, but...I don't care nearly enough about it.
  5. Attach a plan for a better answer, but I would guess that your default walls are set to "No Room Definition" for some reason.
  6. Just putting a space seems to solve it as well and the space ends up at the end so it really becomes a non-issue I think.
  7. Sounds like you "understand" it about as well as I do : )
  8. You actually just have to shift select it one time or marquee select it.
  9. Video card has nothing to do with ray traces. The video card is used for standard rendering techniques only. Ray traces are 100% CPU.
  10. I for one just draw the existing structure and then make sure not to modify it. If you wanted to you could even put all the existing structural components on their own layers and lock them to avoid making any changes by mistake.
  11. Ya, some sort of visual clues as to what we're doing would be nice. I've watched the video and I'm usually able to get things stretched to the way I want them, but I still don't really understand them all that well either. Granted I haven't taken a lot of time to wrap my head around them, but its one of the few features in Chief that I can truly say is difficult for me to understand. I've even sat down with the express purpose of figuring them out and then decided it wasn't worth the hassle...not something I often do. I'm sure I'll return to it one of these days and get it figured out, but it doesn't seem like it really needs to be that difficult.
  12. Can you attach the plan?
  13. For the record, I didn't even know about the double click/break line thing until you brought it up on this thread. Thanks for the tip Glenn. I'm sure its going to come in handy.
  14. Curious David, do you happen to know why Sketchfab is free and how/why they are financed?
  15. You've been around a while Joey, I'm sure you know that attaching the plan will get you a quicker and more accurate answer. In the meantime, just drag the walls down in an elevation view.
  16. You can also try to build a wall and in the wall DBX specify it as "no room definition". Put the wall roughly into position then reshape it as necessary in an elevation view.
  17. You need to... 1. Select your line 2. Double click the break line tool at the bottom of your screen 3. Click once to break your line
  18. On a bit of a side note, did you try to check "Edit Object Parts"? Edit>Edit Behaviors>Edit Object Parts or Shift+F8
  19. Do a save as of the plan giving it a new name, delete all the unnecessary components and attach that trimmed down plan. It really really helps a lot to see the plan and exactly how you have it set up.
  20. You should probably attach a plan so we can see exactly how your moulding is set up, and I for one can't quite understand what you are trying to accomplish. Can you clarify a bit?
  21. Yep. Everything has its cost. One of the reasons I sometimes discourage "progress". So far CA seems to be doing a pretty good job balancing speed, efficiency, and functionality with the number of available features and options.
  22. See post #10 in this thread... https://chieftalk.chiefarchitect.com/index.php?/topic/6460-time-tracker-accurate/
