Ever since I upgraded from X15 to X16, I get the message "Rebuilding 3D model" a lot. Not the end of the world, but wonder if others have noticed this? Jim

Thanks Doug. I'll look into this. Jim

I prefer to use the Single-Pole light switch in all cases. I manually label 3- and 4-way wall switches when they occur. This is so I can neatly add other remarks, such as "D" for dimmer: My question -- Anybody know how to turn off the automatic feature from the get go and keep it off? When I go to Defaults / Electrical Service Specification / Options, this feature is greyed out... Thanks again, Jim

I did a Google and this blurb below came up. Essentially text that allows complex formatting. It's not unique to Chief, and is common with other software. What is Rich Text Format? Rich Text Format (RTF) refers to a digital text format that goes beyond Plain Text by allowing formatting and styling features. With Rich Text, you can include various markups and formatting features such as bold or italic text, different font sizes, colors, lists, block quotes, etc. This makes the Rich Text more visually expressive and versatile. Here's a website that explains in detail. https://buttercms.com/blog/what-is-rich-text/

Michael, There is some knowledge base info on this here in case you have not seen already: https://www.chiefarchitect.com/support/article/KB-00937/license-security.html Looks like software / internet validation and a check in every 2 weeks. You might contact Chief tomorrow to see if they can give you greater detail.

I've had that. Try mulling the lower door and the adjacent sidelites together into a sub-unit. Then try mulling that with the transom above. See if that works. Jim

Danielle, Just tested it. Works fine for me. Do you have the latest version of Firefox? Jim

What is that technique for finding roof line intersects
JKEdmo replied to GeneDavis's topic in General Q & A
Gene, Place Roof Plane Intersection Point. Click main roof plane, then click edge of roof plane you want to meet the main roof plane. It should place a temporary CAD point. Jim -
Good morning, I'm trying to model this double sink vanity as one base cabinet: I've gotten this far, but am struggling a bit with the 2 sinks and toe kick: Have a couple of questions: 1) How do I place 2 sinks in the countertop? Seems to default to one smack in the middle. 2) How to do an open cabinet base (no kick panel) so that you can see the tile wall base beyond? Thanks again, Jim DOUBLE SINK VANITY.plan

X15 --> X16 / Changed Manually Adjusted Dimensions

I just submitted to Tech Support. Will see if they have any input. I bet you're right. Jim -
X15 --> X16 / Changed Manually Adjusted Dimensions
JKEdmo replied to JKEdmo's topic in General Q & A
Just upgraded another project X15 to X16. Again, manual dimension value placement is affected: X15 (before): X16 (after): Anybody else seeing this? Jim -
X15 --> X16 / Changed Manually Adjusted Dimensions
JKEdmo replied to JKEdmo's topic in General Q & A
Doug, All that did was create dimension leader lines to the dimension values, which were put out of position by the upgrade. I'll see if Chief chimes in on this. Unsure if it is a "glitch." Thanks, Jim -
Chief, Please look into and correct if possible: One thing I noticed upgrading older X15 projects to new X16 is my manually adjusted dimensions get screwed up and I need to readjust. Seems consistent across projects. Perhaps others have noticed too? Here's before: Here's after: Thanks again, Jim

Auto Roof Question - One Big Roof over "Jogging" Exterior Wall
JKEdmo replied to JKEdmo's topic in General Q & A
Thanks Jason for your input. I'll need to study this a bit. Jim P.S. thanks again to all for taking time out to look at this. I appreciate this forum! -

Auto Roof Question - One Big Roof over "Jogging" Exterior Wall
JKEdmo replied to JKEdmo's topic in General Q & A
Doug -- confirmed! I guess I'll just do manual roof planes and cut my losses. Thanks for the input and giving me a better understanding of auto roofs. Jim -
Auto Roof Question - One Big Roof over "Jogging" Exterior Wall
JKEdmo replied to JKEdmo's topic in General Q & A
Brett, Thanks for the tip! I tried this out briefly and that seems to be the solution. By generating a roof baseline polyline and then cleaning up the plan jogs, the roof reconciles itself into one monolithic roof. I'll dive in further tomorrow. Jim -
Good afternoon, I'm trying to model an existing rancher. It has one big monolithic gable roof that covers the many jogs of the exterior wall below. So, the eave depths and wall plate heights may vary accordingly: I thought I'd try to make this happen with Auto Roofs. (See below). I can see Chief uses a uniform plate height and eave depth. The result is staggered ridge lines and upper gable end walls. Not the desired result. My question -- is it even possible to model this condition with auto roofs? Or, am I better off just doing a manual roof? (I know how to model this manually, but am trying to improve my understanding of auto roofs. But, don't want to pursue a lost cause!) Thanks once again, Jim

That's an interesting idea. Thanks for the tip! Jim

Good afternoon, I'd like to add a column to my window and door schedules that simply states if a shutter is present (yes / no). Is this possible? Thanks again,

I believe the easy solution is allow snap to objects in the layout box. That would make it easy to grab the CAD detail border and then position the layout box precisely on the layout sheet. Autocad (my frame of reference) does this easy. I wish Chief would do this. Interestingly, I recall Revit, like Chief, not having this feature and being a source of annoyance to me. The annoyance being we go to great lengths being precise with the model and then we have to monkey around trying for precision on the layout sheet.

Larry, glad it worked out! Have a good one. Jim
