  1. In plan, I set the Room Specification / Fill Style option to show an existing diagonal tile pattern in a master bathroom: The pattern fills the defined rooms perfectly, but not into the door opening. Is there a workaround for this? Thanks again, Jim
  2. Thanks Glenn and Ryan for both your input. I guess having a placeholder note off to the side is the way to go. It did not occur to me you can have the note callouts in the cad detail next to the schedule. Seems like that's a good way to have your schedule "preloaded" with standard notes you use before they get placed in plan. Jim
  3. Ok, Joe. I get it. You don't like it. Still, it's a thing. Some people like it graphically, and the OP was interested. Indeed, Autocad and Archicad offer the straight door swing option, so maybe Chief would consider it too. Good night, Jim
  4. It's a carryover from hand drafting. Faster to draw an angled line than an arc. In any case, having another option not the end of the world. Looks good in schematic drawings. Just a matter of taste. Jim
  5. Sometimes see straight door wings on schematic plans. It's a nice look in my opinion. Autocad Architecture has it (see below). Might be something for Chief to consider. Seems like it'd be easy to program, but of course that's an easy claim by a non-programmer. Jim
  6. HI Scott, I don't think that's what I'm looking for, but perhaps my original question was confusing. I'll try to rephrase: Is it possible for a schedule row to have an entry even if there is no note specification associated with it? Reason being is there are times I need to delete every instance of a particular keynote in plan, yet I'd like to keep its numbered schedule row entry and change the contents to "not used." This is usually when I'm responding to permit plan check comments. Hope that makes sense. Thanks again, Jim
  7. I use keynotes in my plans. When I delete the last plan keynote/callout, it deletes the corresponding schedule entry/row. Here's my question - there are times I want to keep the schedule row intact and just rename it to "(not used)." Namely, during permit plan check where I do not want schedule renumbering in order to keep the keynote numbering unchanged and therefore to make the plan reviewer's job easier. How do I keep the schedule row from deleting if the last plan callout is deleted? Do I need to keep a callout "placeholder" off to the side of the plan in order to keep the row entry intact?   8. Indeed a helpful tip. I also struggled with defining a triangular window recently. If I recall correctly, I instead fussed around in the "shape" category with window side heights... I never thought about an arch setting with zero radius. Why? Because in the real world a triangular window is not arched I suppose. I think this is a good example where Chief could make things a little more user friendly and accessible to the user not wise in arcane workarounds. Maybe add a window shape called triangular? No snark intended. Just my two cents. I am pretty impressed with what you can do with Chief. But, sometimes it seems things are a little mysterious and hidden. Jim

  10. Hi Mark - I couldn't make room divider / invisible work for me. As soon as I made the adjacent wall invisible, the starter tread appears. Jim
  11. Good morning. Working in X15 and on a remodel where we are opening up an existing stair to an adjacent room. (Note that in screen shots below, the fine dashed red linework is demolition reference display plan as underlay) So, I've got the stair up against a wall with a half-circle starter tread opposite as existing condition: When I delete the stair wall, the second starter tread automatically pops into place: I want to keep the stair to only have a starter tread on one side. Is this doable in X15? When I try the starter tread edit handles, it affects both sides. Thanks again, Jim

  13. I got the email today that X15 was officially released. I'd like to download and install. First time upgrade for me, so couple of quick questions: X14 remains on my system and X15 installs as separate standalone program? This goes for future releases also, right? any reason why I wouldn't / shouldn't just use X15 exclusively from here on out? Or, should I keep my existing X14 projects as X14 and only start new projects in x15? Thanks again, Jim
  14. Bruce, For what it's worth, I use Autocad Architecture 2015 on my Windows 11 system and it works without issue. Granted, it's one year newer than your version, but I thought I'd post to let you know. Jim
  15. Michael, I'm a bit of a newbie with Chief, so thinking conceptually here, but does Chief have a tool that allows placement of a wall reveal? Sort of like an inverse trim piece that cuts into the wall. If yes, then I would define the wall type to include the Hardie panel and then place the reveals as needed on the elevations. I don't think the panels need to be delineated in plan, especially at 1/4 scale. They can be shown and dimensioned on the elevations. Jim
  16. Having a pop-out outlet in lieu of a side mount unit does not seem like a big deal to me in the grand scheme of things. I thought about the difference in electrical codes during a recent visit to England and Scotland. First reaction was they have the most overbuilt outlets and appliance cords. Just like battleships, or maybe dreadnoughts is the better term. But, my impression is they are very proud of their electrical safety standards and probably think our standards are lacking. Also noticed that they are very restrictive in bathroom electrical outlets only allowing small electric razor outlet.

  18. I'm doing some drawings for an interior designer and noticed she specified a non-UL listed pendant light fixture. If I were the designer I would be hesitant to do this -- certainly for commercial and probably for residential too. I'll alert her to this, but thought I'd bring up the topic here first. Does anyone have additional thoughts on this? Thanks in advance, Jim
