Good morning, Trying to figure out why I have a second dashed line at the edge of my stair plan about 1/4" outside of the stair width itself. What controls this? Also, the railing seems to align with this too. How can I get the railing to align with edge of stair? Zoomed in: Once again, thanks for your help. Jim

Yes, I did that on purpose. I wanted the 2-story stairwell to have flush walls top to bottom at the interior and no horizontal shelf as you go down the stairs. Alternately, I could do a double stud wall on the upper floor, but I settled on this. But, these non-aligned / non-stacking walls are creating the issue. I built small roofs over the concrete walls to represent flashing. Not certain if this is the simplest or most elegant solution, but seems to work. I appreciate everyone's insight. Jim

Good morning, I have a stairwell that extends from the basement to the first floor above. The basement is below grade. I have my basement foundation walls with full 2x4 furred walls at the interior, all part of one wall type. On the first floor, I've decided to frame my 2x4 stairwell walls directly on top of the furred walls below rather than on the concrete foundation walls. These framed walls will step back from the concrete foundation wall below and will be flashed. Anyhow all seemed great... But, as soon as I built my shed roof over the stairwell, the concrete foundation walls below extended to the new roof above in front of the framed walls. How would you handle this? Would you manually edit the tops of the concrete walls? Another thought I had was build little roofs over the concrete walls -- essentially the flashing -- to stop the walls. Thanks in advance, Jim

That's probably the best habit. Along these lines, do you happen to know if Chief ever "retires" libraries or are they more or less always available on their website? Jim

Rick, When I download a new library file from Chief, I just double click the file and it self-installs. Jim

I believe it's caused by this setting under Preferences / Appearance. If you set it to "0" then text will not adjust when you scroll in or out.

Alan, my interpretation is with a sprinklered residence and garage, there is no requirement addressing the door leaf construction. Only the hardware -- the door must self-close and -latch. You could contact the building official for a verdict. That said, I would be inclined to call out a 20 minute or solid core door that is self closing and latching even if the house is sprinklered. It's not much extra money and you can always exceed the code requirement especially when it comes to life safety. Jim

I have one project "Davenport" and another "Reynolds." I'd like to bring over existing CAD Details (sheet notes) from first project to the next. Does the Project Browser allow direct copy and paste (project to project / folder to folder)? I believe the answer is no, but wanted to confirm. Thank you, Jim

Thanks Joey. I checked that and it does not seem to be the case. I uploaded the plan. I did notice I can drag the walls tops to infill and produce the frieze. I guess that's a good workaround, but maybe not best practice. TEST.plan Jim

Good morning, I'm working on an as-built of an older house with masonry exterior walls. My gable end walls currently stop at the underside of the roof rafters, which I think is normal. Is there a setting to have these walls continue to end at the underside of roof deck above? Here's a screenshot of the offending gaps: Thanks again, Jim

Good morning, What's the quickest way to query a room's area? Wanted to get my crawl space area shown below. I figured I'd open the Room Specification box and presto, all the data will be there under the "General" tab just like a Polyline, but no such luck. Any tips? Thanks once again, Jim

Are Chief wall plan hatch directions always based on the direction of the wall? See masonry wall snapshot below. Is there an option to set the hatch direction so it is fixed "globally" in one direction like hand-drafting? P.S. I first thought that Chief hatch directions might be always object based, but I did a little test with a hatched polyline box. The hatch patterns there seem to behave "globally". Thank you, Jim
