Good afternoon, Laying out a curved stair. How can define the overall run of the stair to be exactly 90 degrees? As you can see, the stair below is close, but slightly off. I must be overlooking a setting or unclear on technique. Thanks again, Jim

I have drawn up several houses based on Matterport files from my client. (Matterport was the only provided as-built info for a few reasons). I was initially excited about the tech. as it is very whiz-bang. But, after struggling with drawing dimensional discrepancies became less so. I then took a look at Matterport's accuracy claim out of curiousity and it is 1%. This is 6" over 50 feet. To me that's a lot and a lot less accurate than a laser distance finder. That said, I do appreciate Matterport as a possible substitute for site photos. Jim

Thanks for everyone's 2 cents and advice on technique. Good stuff! I think I might propose a convert / explode cad box feature to Chief on suggestions. Maybe they'll consider it. Jim

Neat. But, does this method only work in plan view? I don't think it's doable in a Cad detail (?) Jim

Good morning, Does Chief allow you to convert / explode a Cad Box to a polyline? I'm doing detailing. I use a lot of Cad Boxes, but there are some times I'd like to turn the boxes into adjustable polylines. Using X15. Thanks again! Jim

Brett, I bet you're right. Makes perfect sense. Thanks, Jim -
Thanks Joe for quick reply. Worked perfectly. Jim

Good morning, I've overridden an automatic roof label to add some multi-line text. The new text covers up the roof slope arrow. Any way to fix this? Thank you, Jim

Works just fine for me. I'm using Firefox version 122.0 64 bit. Jim

If you're looking for an email client alternate to Outlook, check out Mozilla Thunderbird. I'm very happy with it. Jim

Kbird, Thank you for directing me to this article. It looks like just the ticket for me. I'll dive into it tomorrow. I was getting a lot of material texture not found error messages and I suspect it might have to do with the OneDrive pathing. So, I hope this will be the fix. In general, I am pretty happy with Windows 11. The big exception being the One Drive integration. Jim

Robert, Yes, I have it checked. Jim

Question towards Windows 11 PC Users: A lot of my Chief program paths are directed toward my OneDrive\Documents folder. The OneDrive folder is a special Microsoft folder used for syncing your PC to the cloud. I turned this off on my PC because I found it problematic, but I guess Chief is still trying to use it. I would like to repath the Chief program paths to my regular local Documents folder. Is this doable and how? Thanks again for your help. Jim

Mark, not sure this is correct. I get the option shown below. I think at the time I decided not to add to library because it was unique to project and I did not want to clutter up my library. Thanks for the file management tips. I'll read through them. Jim

Thanks DBC for quick input. Seems weird that you cannot get at a non-library symbol in order to re-use within a drawing. Do you think this feature would be a reasonable suggestion request? If so, I'll post. Good workaround. I'll try that. Jim

Good morning, A while ago, I created a railing type for a front porch that included a custom post symbol, called "COLUMN 1 - GUGGENHEIM", as part of the railing definition. I cannot find this post symbol in my library. Pretty sure when I built the symbol I did not add to my library and just kept it part of my PLAN file. I now want to place these columns separately / manually on the porch, so I just need the column itself... Question: How do I "insert (this) symbol?" Where is it? I assume it lives somewhere in the file and there should be a way to get at it. Hope I am explaining my predicament well. Thanks again, Jim

Yes, I seem to stay logged in on the forum. It's only happened for me exporting the model to the cloud viewer. Jim

Over the last month I've had to (re-) log in to my account several times when I go to export my model to the Chief 3D Viewer Cloud. I don't think I log out on purpose... Does anyone know how to stay permanently logged in, or has anyone had this same issue? Thanks again, Jim

That looks great! Just curious, but how long does it take to create something like this in Sketchup? For the split face modeling, did you add spheres to the block body? Jim
-
Debra, I think you could model one yourself using Chief tools: polylines / convert to 3D solid / boolean subtraction. Regular smooth face block is pretty easy. Just a 3D extrusion: To get a realistic split face requires a bit more work. Here is same extrusion but with outer block face jagged: It occurred to me you might want more true detail for the split face. I took the extrusion above then subtracted a similar copy from it that was rotated 90 degrees and placed right at the jagged face. The result shows a more complex surface. This example is crude, but I suppose the more time you spent on it the better it'd look. Jim

Thanks Tea Time for your input. Seems like there is room for improvement. Interesting tool though. Jim
