  1. import the image/color from Trex as a new material and assign it to the Deck as the color or copy the Trex decking to your own library and assign the new material to it for repeated use...
  2. it's a type of Dormer ...so place the Auto Dormer , then change the default style to Eyebrow and set the width and height as needed. M.
  3. is surface edge lines on ? usually is (default) and set to "use layers" 3D>3D settings>Options>surface edge lines, can be turned off though you can set Color Off mode to be Greyscale not black and white in the preferences>appearance I know nothing about endcaps but have noticed the "rounded corners" if line weights are "on"
  4. might want to ask over at the Room Planner Forum too https://roomtalk.chiefarchitect.com/index.php?/forum/3-q-a/ but it list this as the system requirements here http://roomplanner.chiefarchitect.com/room-planner/ System RequirementsiPad 2 or newer iPhone 4 or newer iOS 6 or newer For Leica Bluetooth laser:Dimension Bundle iPad 3 or newer E7100i(D110) E7500i(D510) D810
  5. Thanks KT I had assumed my issue was with the upper section , so didn't try altering the bottom straight section but once lined up close as you say if you grab the upper handle on the bottom section , shorten the staircase up and drag it back to the curved section it auto-snapped too the curved section , had to try 2-3 times sometimes but in the end snaps weren't an issue , both pieces "found" each other... M.
  6. Insulation is a factor now , normally we'd use 2x8/10 now top and bottom to allow for insulation thickness and/or use Rigid Foam this was discussed last month here..... https://chieftalk.chiefarchitect.com/index.php?/topic/1187-bay-window-picture-frame-casing/ (EDIT: The post above includes the Windows- JC posts about down below ....in post 5.)
  7. Check in a 3D view , I have seen this before and found the second set /curved section was sitting on the ground and need the bottom height set to the top height of the straight section to join up. M.
  8. you have to use the More Reply Options , not quick Reply , to get the Follow Topic check box on the RH side M.
  9. I don't really care about where 0.0.0 is , but I see a lot of Z fighting on different plans , so was hoping from Lew's comments that perhaps if I made an effort to start at 0.0.0 , it may help with that....otherwise it is not a concern...I don't even use coordinates on any kind off regular basis . perhaps it's the screen size / aspect ratio? using a 23" NEC widescreen monitor all templates, chief's or mine , 0.0.0 , is off the screen , not by miles admittedly (20-30ft) so may not be the issue causing the z-fighting , but not sure why it isn't the bottom LH corner, if it should be .......who starts drawing in the bottom LH corner anyway? guess I'll try the 400" clip distance and see if that helps...
  10. is auto Roof rebuild off ? use f12 to rebuild the 3d view frequently when doing this kind of thing. lowering the height of a single roof plane ,by lowering the height of the roof baseline should work ? (or lowering the height of that one wall where the shed starts if an auto roof)
  11. Well nobodies post cleared it up for me Dermot's post helps clarify why when I Import a Cad file at 000 by default it is usually off the screen somewhere , need to learn to scroll way out 1st I guess ? When I open ANY of the templates ,000 isn't even on the screen , so what am I doing wrong ? wrong grid settings? snap settings? cos I seem to have my share of Z fighting going on..... will try increasing Camera distance to 400" and see if that helps too. M.
  12. 8GB of Ram for the Computer ---- or more ---- yes (more if the video "shares" memory with the videocard.) 2GB-3GB dedicated video-ram for the Videocard should be great..... M.
  13. try turning the MSAA down to 2X and see if it helps and have a look a couple pages back on the forum for the Nvidia settings Thread I started and Perry post pics of his Nvidia Control Panel setting for CA for me.... thx again P. M. edit: found it.... https://chieftalk.chiefarchitect.com/index.php?/topic/321-nvidia-driver-settings/?hl=%2Bnvidia+%2Bsettings
  14. So you are suggesting that its a good idea to place an Input point at 0,0 before you draw anything on a plan and start your bottom left hand Corner there ? As you say , you would think that CA would automatically start you there in that case........ This is two guys in a day with the same issue , any chance it's a Video Driver issue ? M.
  15. Yep , you as the Architect had to deal with it , cos the City demanded it, the Builder couldn't have cared less , and would of spent WAY less time trying to establish heights if it related to his local site rather than the beach in LA of course that level changes every 6 hours with the tide too . so whatca gonna do , no sure why they use SL since it's never constant , and give it a yr or 3 and Global Warming will change it all anyway..... maybe I just don't think BIG picture enough ? its getting to the point where my 4ft level is gonna need a military grade GPS unit embedded in it just so I can figure out where the top of my slab should be...... But I realise it is cos the Surveyor's equipment is now calibrated this way . so is easy (for them) , and I get it on large civil engineering jobs etc ,but not for Residental , we still have to deal with decimal feet onsite too, who ever measure anything in DF except a surveyor? might as well still be using chains..... someone could easily hit a button and provide it in fractional feet (too) so the guy with the ( fractional) tape measure can get on with it and not have to figure out what 123.389 ft is 1st....
  16. no attached plan I can see.....?
  17. The EASY solution of course , if X6 is out of the question now, is just to have two computers under your desk like me and use a KVM switch to go back and forward as needed with a tap of the scroll-lock key..... leave Chief where it is on the old machine and use your new computer for the "Everyday" stuff ,like coming here to the Forums.... M.
  18. Another option is to Dual boot XP with Win 8 and use it just for CA10. you already have a licence for XP so why not use it.... you may even Want to have Win7 instead of 8 ? new computers can still be ordered with Win7 too.
  19. He is using the USB Key Hasp or Sentinel Hardware lock seen here about 4th item down , perhaps you'll need to swap out for one of those? http://www.chiefarchitect.com/products/addon/ your other questions might be better asked at Customer Service ...at least to start. M.
  20. Was the symbol dimensioned in Feet not inches ? Had this issue with 3D Warehouse stuff before..( it looks big enough) .... resize in Sketchup? and re-import perhaps?
  21. a suggestion...break it every 8' feet +/- , if you plan to use 8' fence panels as well....
  22. Yep , not sure why the Fireplace Tool was never expanded so you could do the chimney too , or why it can't do "chases" M.
  23. While on the Knowledge Base's today , I found two articles ,using slighty different methods ,both start of similar but finish differently. http://www.homedesignersoftware.com/support/article/KB-00744/262/Home-Designer/Custom-Objects/Creating-a-Custom-Fireplace-and-Chimney.html# http://www.chiefarchitect.com/support/article/KB-00058/
  24. 1st thought would be check...... Is you Minimum separation set to 4" on the Plan Defaults>Window>General tab ? Is "ignore Casing on resize" on ? Then I think they'll snap together at 4" apart might have to do up and down in elevation view....
  25. I stand corrected by OB1 makes a mess of the walls on "build house" but it's either that and repair or you build it yourself anyway.... M.
