Probably better to up your budget slightly ($1200) and get a decent Laptop with a Warranty , than buy someone else's problems.... eg this is available at B&H (or Costco) for $1199 , has 16GB ram and the latest 10th gen chipset and 512GB NVME and seems to have good reviews. The 1660Ti is about as low as I would go for some future proofing.... https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1560812-REG/msi_gl75_leopard_10sdk_228_i7_10750h.html/reviews Costco model is slightly different with a 256GB NVME + 1TB 5400rpm HD ( I'd go with the B&H model and add HDD if I needed it later) https://www.costco.com/msi-gl75-leopard-gaming-laptop---10th-gen-intel-core-i7-10750h---geforce-gtx-1660ti---144hz-1080p-display.product.100579343.html

Printing to service bureau i.e. Office Depot
Kbird1 replied to ChiefHarrell's topic in General Q & A
I not sure sending it to Staples should be anything different that sending it to your Draughtsman if both are sent in PDF format , but if you are printing from Plan only you will not have a Titlebar etc , that is where the Layout file comes in. -
How to make furniture visible on elevation view
Kbird1 replied to Floriance's topic in General Q & A
Just thought I'd mention that EVERY VIEW ( camera ) whether Plan , Elevation, 3D etc has it OWN Display Options menu, and you can use the DO DBX or the ALDO ( active layer display options) to see which Layers may or may not be "displayed" ( a blue check in disp column). Note that turning something off or on in a particular LayerSET for example Section View LayerSet will turn it on or off in any view using that LayerSet. If the ALL ON Layerset doesn't show something then the Layerset has been altered and some Layers don't have their DISP column Checked ( opposite for All OFF Layerset ) so scroll up and down and make sure every Row has a blue check mark in the DISP column or use the Select ALL button and then the Display checkbox to set them all On ( or off for All OFF) M. -
No a picture is a picture , so it won't be a 3D Object , but Chief's Cabinets are VERY customisable and can be turned into just about anything. There are a few pre made Vanities but Cheif expect you to use a Base Cabinet and configure the Options as needed..... There are tutorials here : https://www.chiefarchitect.com/support/category/7/cabinets.html and Video's Here: https://www.chiefarchitect.com/videos/playlists/87/cabinets-kitchens-baths.html Please do your Forum Signature so people know what software and Version you are using if you plan to post more questions , thanks. https://chieftalk.chiefarchitect.com/topic/18908-signature-here-at-chief-talk/ Mick

Resize camera view in layout without cropping
Kbird1 replied to justinorwig's topic in General Q & A
IIRC , hold the X Key while Dragging the Corner of the Layout Box to resize it and keep the Aspect Ratio. M.- 1 reply

Because Chief as yet does not allow two Layers of Framing to be Auto Framed in a Roof Plane Structure...... Once you set it up once and have it in the Library it's not to bad if you really need to show it in 3D. M.

Walls in User Library- Adds New Wall Type and material Change.
Kbird1 replied to wjmdes's topic in General Q & A
Yes Annosets, Layers Sets, Defaults, SPV etc can all be imported , I would just do as TS suggested without any of that, if it works?, then look closer at your defaults etc as it is likely your Template not a Chief issue. If Okay import one thing at a time and TEST, then the next thing, until it breaks , which may give you and TS a clue to the issue. M. -
Walls in User Library- Adds New Wall Type and material Change.
Kbird1 replied to wjmdes's topic in General Q & A
I can understand the happiness thing but it is worth a Try to make a few new Walls built in a New Plan made from Chief Default Template ( Residental Template) to see if it is an Issue with you current Template Plan causing it. M. -
Look in the Brick Material's ......Materials LIST Properties TAB and see if it is set to AREA or Count etc, if set to Count ? it is the Sq.ft Area divided by sq.in area of a single Brick = Count. It is change able as far as I know to the other Options in the dropdown. *edited for clarity pics below. M.

Walls in User Library- Adds New Wall Type and material Change.
Kbird1 replied to wjmdes's topic in General Q & A
Same thing happening here to me in your plan Exported Wall looks fine in Library till placed back in plan My Stored Walls, like Eric's are working fine in your plan.... Your Exported wall Def. while looking good in the library is very strange in a new Plan draws okay but the Wall Definition is saying there are NO Textures -
Is the automatic width check box ...checked ?
-
You are right , it was your question asking me to look at the Video that was after my suggestion, not the Video , so I guess I just assumed that was what you were asking... M.

You didn't follow my instructions ... the sink goes onto the CAD Default layer as it is really just the Sink's CAD Block from the Symbol. No, not if you place them direct into the cabinet as you found out.... but you can use a White or background Color or the Invisible Line Style to hide the base cabinets as Eric pointed out If you drop the sink on the Floor in front of the Cabinet ( say ok to message if you get popup) and drag it into the Cabinet, it stays on the Fixtures Layer or any layer you put it on.... see your plan I Modded attached.... and then just use that layer in the Ref. Set. M. ref_set_3_MHD.plan
-
Would depend on where Fixtures are if not on the foundation Level... Placing the Sinks in the Room ( on floor in front of cabinet > open > set Height > change layer /make new one if needed) drag into Cabinet with CTRL should allow them to stay on the Fixture Layer ( or one you have made specifically for sinks) Mick.

Nicely done ....... you can save the Lookout to your Library as a CAD block , just remember to unblock it on inserting into a new plan so it becomes a 3D object and is seen in a 3D camera view. , it will then also automatically find the roof pitch. TIP From thread below: If this is happening to you...... any change to the roof , including doing a Plan Undo, will cause the Purlins to rotate out of position, once it happens Undo and Redo won't fix it, and I haven't figured how to stop that, but the "Fix" is relatively easy , in Plan View (2D) ,select one and using the Match Properties Tool > Rafter lookout ( name or Object Type ) you can easily select the whole lot and then simply open the DBX and click OK........closing it is enough to reset them to the Roof Slope. Michael's "Fix" Tip for me back then... what you’ve described is an issue that’s been around for a little while and is usually triggered by having auto framing for the roofs toggled off and Auto Rebuild roofs toggled on. It stops happening if you toggle one or the other. Super annoying though for sure. There is more info in this thread and a Plan I posted back then : https://chieftalk.chiefarchitect.com/topic/20877-roof-profiles/?do=findComment&comment=172148

Just did latest X12 update and now ALL Manufacturer Catalogs are gone!
Kbird1 replied to John_B's topic in General Q & A
As you save them to your 2TB drive in the future , DON"T change the name of the file it downloads with, this (can) causes Chief's Auto Update feature not to update those Libraries in the future , at least that was my experience in past versions, and I was told me giving some of them more descriptive names was the cause. M. -
I tend not to use the 2D/3D images either actually but most people do like them. M.

Just did latest X12 update and now ALL Manufacturer Catalogs are gone!
Kbird1 replied to John_B's topic in General Q & A
If you are going to call Tech Support in the Morning , DO NOT DO THE FOLLOWING.... let them look at the situation 1st. You read the warning right ? and from now on make sure to save all downloads on a USB drive or similar.... do you still have x11 installed? new in X12 is an option to re-run the Migration in Preferences > Reset , maybe worth a shot , just uncheck everything except the libraries. If it brings them over , then go to Library > Update Catalogs and it should update them all to the most current X12 files. M. -
Make a dedicated Saved Plan View set for the Foundation Level ( copy Working Plan View) and make a dedicated Layerset for it ( copy the Working Layer Set ) and control exactly what layers you want to show in that new SPV. SPV Videos : https://www.chiefarchitect.com/search/?default_tab=video&q=saved+plan+views M.

Using the "Scale from Plan" ( something close to that name , can't check right now) in the Schedule DBX sometimes helps sizing issues of the Symbols *** The setting is Use Plan View Scale M.
