  1. Thanks for the video Michael. That takes a lot of the mystery out of that new feature. I'm curious, is there any other source to find out that kind of detailed information about that new feature? A new training video? And what about all the other nuances of each new feature? Do we need to wait for the generosity of the Alpha/Beta testers to post how things are intended to work? Or are there detailed training videos I am missing?
  2. Always good advice Bob. I've had similar experiences and for the newer user some simple advice like 'change floor defaults' can lead to a few complications that require a better understanding of Chief tools and a back up is just plain smart - always.
  3. X9 seems very stable and am now using for all production.
  4. Quick video showing the process I use. Hope it helps.
  5. Yeah shift select does not work for rooms. Change the default ceiling heights for that floor and change each room to be at the default height. May need to redo roofs unless on auto.
  6. Lane, is it possible to post the plan and Layout to see if anyone else is having the problem? I see you're suing a Quadro video card. Could that be a factor? Latest drivers?
  7. PLEASE get this bug reported (again) ASAP. I've never seen the problem but it would kill my elevations and don't want to get anywhere near it. Showing even thru walls is the killer. Thanks
  8. Really? Sorry, is hitting a hot key(s) not an extra step? Seems like one to me, that's all I'm saying. Isn't it always better to eliminate steps (even fast ones) when designing a software interface? Would you or other users prefer there were no extra steps if you could have it that way or do think the extra steps help keep the interface cleaner and more functional and is worth the albeit small effort?
  9. Yes there is an extra step. The extra step needed to click the icon or hit a (4 really?) hot key(s) instead of having those tools appear whenever an object is selected. I would like to add tool menu, like a flyout to my tool bars but can't find a way to do so.
  10. Thanks you guys. I went and used a simple single key 'V' of course works a charm. Was wondering - would anyone else like to see those tools available when selecting an object without the extra step? Is there a reason to have that extra step?
  11. The roof is set up to rotate around its base line, which you may already know. Altering that rotation point is another story. You can also rotate about the ridge top and the fascia height. Maybe there's a way to use those tools to accomplish what you want but it's tricky and a work around for simply moving the rotation point to wherever you want. QUESTION What is a Roof Baseline Polyline and how do I use it? ANSWER First, let's define the terms "roof baseline" and "roof baseline polyline". Roof Baseline: A roof plane's baseline is the line in 3D space around which the roof section pivots as you alter its pitch. Typically drawn over the exterior surface of a wall's main layer, the baseline may also be drawn over a CAD line or at the corner or edge of an existing roof section. A roof base line is the uppermost portion of a roof plane directly above the main layer of your wall. Baseline height does not include the roofing material or sheathing, just the framing materials. If, for example, you were looking at a truss or rafter, the baseline would be on the top of the rafter or truss. The baseline would be located at the point where the truss or rafter sits directly above the main layer of the wall the roof plane is resting on.
  12. I know the thread title and the content aren't that focused but what are your favorite features? Curious.
  13. Best new feature? For me I find X9's new features completely underwhelming - in a good way. There's no surprises, no quirks added, just a fine, stable, very usable piece of software. I kept my expectations low and was not surprised or disappointed but I just know that X9 is going to better as a tool for my business in a lot of unseen ways. Really enjoying using it and look forward to learning more about it. I haven't explored the macro stuff but would be interested to learn more.
  14. Should be an easy way to do this but can't seem to find the magic. When I click on an object the "View Draw Order Edit Tool" appears in the tool bar but I need to click on it to get the 'tools' like send forward/back etc. I would like the 'tools' to appear when I click on an object without the extra click on the View Draw button. Gotta be easy but I can't the find the tools in the menu customization selections. Is there a preference or something? Just watched the new features video and it looks like this 'extra step' is needed to get to the tools. Am I getting this wrong? Maybe a Hot Key is the only way to get to those tools quickly?
  15. Thanks Rob - that looks pretty sweet.
  16. Yes, any .plan can be sent to Layout. You'll also notice the narrator doesn't have a separate Layer Set for the 'bare bones' as built CAD block. I think he is just showing some basics but there are faster methods and if you watch the entire series you'll get the idea and can develop your own methods.
  17. If you search the training videos 'remodel' there's some great info there on a couple different processes. Check #362 - 367 Good stuff. I just reviewed video #362 and it's just OK. There's faster and more efficient ways to accomplish same. Let us know and you may get a video lesson that will be helpful.
  18. If I understand your question, two walls cannot occupy the same space, even on two different layers. There are ways around this limitation but not easy nor dependable ways. Most remodelers here will use two different plans. One to show the existing plan and another to show the proposed plan with the walls of the existing shown in CAD, from a 'CAD detail' 'behind' the proposed walls on a separate locked layer. There's a traiing video showing this technique, if it's what you are asking. Forgive me if I misunderstood your question and as always it's best to wait for those who know more about such things to give you a more definitive answer.
  19. That's what I was thinking too. Tons of flexibility and the ability to model almost anything but the forever part just doesn't cut it for my simple brain.
  20. Ran it for about 2 hours this morning - no issues.
  21. Wow...I made it 4 minutes and hurt just a little bit all over. I bet the complexity adds to some of the stuff you can do but wow again, that was painful to watch.
  22. The final release is not due until end of Q1 (March 31st) and if your SSA does not run through that time you will be not be eligible for the Beta. Can't hurt to call though I think this is policy for now.
  23. Thanks Joe - Need to study my X9 features. I guess it should be removed from the the components dbx?
