Click in the "room" and select the SHELF CEILING option for those rooms and set the height. See if that works for what you want.

Thanks Joey.  I've tried that and I get mixed results.  It lowers some of the walls, but I lose the main ceiling of my structure - see attached.

  2. I'm working on a display for a retail plumbing/appliance showroom.  The main structure has 12' ceilings broken up by 9' tall partition walls to create vignettes for product display (see attached).  I've tried making these partition walls railings, however, I am then unable to insert doors and other cased openings properly.  I've also tried defining rooms within the main structure with the ceilings removed.  I get odd results using this method - second and third attachments.  Would someone please tell me the proper way to go about this or at least a workaround?  Thanks, Kevin

The Z offset needs to be a negative amount of the height of the sink symbol plus the thickness of the countertop. In this case, the correct amount would be -9 13/16". However, Chief is definitely messing up the cutout in the custom countertop. There is a cutout surface generated but it is at an incorrect height. Copy the cabinet to see the difference of the auto countertop.

I'd send in a bug report.

Thanks Rob.  I do have the offset correct as seen in the above post.  I will report this to Chief.

The Z Origin Offset is set about an inch too low ...the countertop is not at standard height, though I am not sure

if that is the issue as I too am seeing weird things with custom countertops , not at the correct height or even snapping to the ceiling above.

    * I am curious about the corner cabinet with two doors though?

Hey Mick.  Thanks for the reply.  I do have the sink symbol with the appropriate Z position - see attached.  It only seems to happen when I create a custom countertop by selecting all the base cabinets first.  I will report this to Tech Support.

The client requested side access to this cabinet for their electrical toothbrush.  I thought it weird too as the fronts access is just as convenient in this case.

  5. I've noticed that the countertop holes for sinks don't fill in correctly once the cut-out is made.  This is happening when I create a custom countertop mostly.  Anyone got a workaround for this?  When I first insert the sink, it looks fine, but later I get the gap shown in the image attached.  Thanks...

Not sure if we've had another update ?, only been 1 so far.....

If doesn't seem to happen on every Kitchen/bath for me though.....

There was an update a few days ago and the first one since this post started.  I can confirm that it does not happen on every job.  It happens with all my custom hardware symbols though.

As long as your computer meets our minimum system requirements, you should not need a new computer or graphics card to run X13.  Please see this other post I made that has some more detailed information:

Regarding the missing lines for cabinet hardware, I believe that this is the result of a bug in X13.  Upgrading your computer is very unlikely to have any affect on this.  We are currently working on a fix for this and hope to have it available in the next update.  For now, if you turn off color and then find you have some missing lines, they should come back if you use the Rebuild 3D tool.  You should always report these kinds of problems to our technical support team if and when you run into them.

Any update on this bug?  Dermot said it would hopefully be fixed in the next update.  It is not!  Creating a CAD detail from view for every elevation is too much work (do lots of kitchens and baths).  Please advise.

Thanks Kevin , and no I don't let Windows Update Drivers at all and also do not run Nvidia Geforce Experience as I don't use any of those "Addons" either, so do it manually every month or so unless I find issues , and then I usually Update my Nvidia Driver thread here for others, but wondered if this maybe a driver specific Issue ( or my card )

    https://chieftalk.chiefarchitect.com/topic/16205-nvidia-drivers-updated/

Sorry Mick.  Just seeing where you asked which driver I was using.  It's the 30.0.14.7141 version.  What are you running into?

Thanks Joe I am running 471.22 currently , 471.68 is the latest I believe.

    Mick.

I noticed that Windows Update did NOT find the latest driver for my RTX 3090 card.  I had to go directly to NVidia to download.  Here is a link for the latest RTX 3080 driver:  https://www.nvidia.com/Download/driverResults.aspx/179682/en-us  I mention the above if you are merely relying on Windows Update to give you the latest - it won't.

    That is awesome Kevin!!!

I am on a MAC.  Can anybody out there on a MAC do the same quality of work as Kevin?

If so,  I want to hire you to show me how to do it. Seriously,  can anybody out there help me do what Kevin does?  If you can, please post a rendering From a MAC and then let's talk

    Thanks

you can email me if you would like.

Thanks D. Scott.  I've been using rendering software for about 25 years and only in the past 5 has all the training sunk in.  I made great headway when I started studying photography as the same principles apply.  It's all about light balance and contrast.  After a while you develop an eye for it - although I hate to admit that it took me so long to grasp these concepts.  In full disclosure, I did adjust the curves on the image above in Photoshop, but that was it.  It would be great if Chief offered some post production within the software, but I suspect that's coming.

Great news Kevin!  I just downloaded it.
    Lovely render you did there!

Thanks Mark.  I'd love to hear what you think of it.  I was fortunate yesterday in that I had a new project to start, so took a chance on the update.  I don't think you'll be disappointed.  I was just complaining about the standard renderer and opened a support ticket only a week ago.  Tech support was professional as always, but I didn't really expect the update this soon (and as complete as it was).

that is some impressive detail, even went to the effort of putting two painting vertically on the one wall.

At least I get to see what the cool kids design, a nice reprieve from floor plans, roofs and stairs that I seem to do all the time.

    .

Thanks Jason.  I do my share of CD's too, but have the most fun with rendering (when there's time).

    Kevin, you rocked it.

I saw the same thing last night in a set of ray traces. Not as refined as your work.

I had wanted to show a client a design change she asked for and did not wish to pound it out on the CPU so PBRed it.

I am teaching an architect in Argentina how to use Chief as he is taking the long but beautiful route through Lumion. I am using this house and he has been following along for months.

He couldn't believe it was Chief.

If they keep going in this direction its a game changer.

    Definitely cudos to Chief.

Thanks Marckus.  I looked into Lumion a while back and concluded it was too expensive to add to my tool set considering I already have subscriptions for AutoCAD, FormZ, Cinema 4D, Corona Renderer, UV Layout, and Marvelous Designer.  I was using these other applications exclusively before finding Chief a couple of years ago.  Chief sure has streamlined my workflow; however, I still create most of my own 3D symbols outside of Chief.

Thanks for the News Kevin , I haven't had time to play with it yet....

    Mick.

Mick - let me know what you think when you take it for a spin.  I am impressed that they were able to fix so many things with both render engines in one update.  Very cool that I was able to complete this one job yesterday in about 5 hours and the renders look as though I spent days...

  15. This new update from today is everything I'd hoped it would be.  Reflections behind glass now work perfectly even with refraction.  They were even able to restore the standard renderer to its former state.  This software just keeps getting better and better.

What?!?!?... I thought I read in one of your posts several weeks ago that it turned out your current card was good?  I guess I missed something there?

I have been using X13 for just practice stuff, but a little afraid yet to bring over my X12 projects.  It's good to hear you haven't had many issues...but then you also have a pretty powerful machine already even without the 3090 card.

You are correct.  That's the office machine with the NVidia Quadro RTX 5000 which I rarely use.  I work from home where I can actually get something done these days.  I only go to the office two days a week to meet with clients.

Boy you hit the nail on the head with that comment.  I've been sticking with X12 because of all the issues I'm seeing reported.  I don't recall ever seeing this many issues at a new release ...but man after going through the list of new features it's driving me nuts to not be able to take advantage of them yet. I don't yet have a machine that'll take advantage of RTRT so I can hold off for a few more months... hopefully some of these hiccups will get ironed out soon.

Mark - It certainly is feature rich.  Other than the standard renderer and the hardware lines disappearing in elevation view, I have not encountered any other issues - not to discount those problems.  I really appreciate the new cabinet dialog box which allows me to build just about anything and the accuracy is such that I can use the output for shop drawings without a CAD detail from view.

I just ordered a new computer with the RTX 3090 card, so looking forward to diving into PBR w/ RR.  That said, I'd stick with the Standard Renderer if it performed like it did in X12.

    Good question for tech support.

In general, you should send tech support what they ask for.  For problems where an X12 plan does not look the same in X13, we typically only need the X12 plan.  Once you start changing things in X13, then we can no longer determine if the problem happened when the legacy plan was converted or if it happened later.  Too much info is almost always better than not enough.

Okay, will wait to hear from tech support.

Good.  We will look into this when we have all the info.  Be sure and include your original X12 plans along with all of the reference files by using the Backup Entire Plan tool.  Also, be sure to indicate all of the differences that you have noticed on your system so we know what we should be investigating.

Will do.  Does Chief have an FTP server where I can upload large files?  I'll send both the X12 and X13 if you want them.
