No input on your question, but a thought on a different method.

Would screen captures of each stage work? My screen capture tool has a Repeat Last Capture command that I use all the time to do similar.

You would get 3 identical images easy to place and align in layout.

Thanks Eric.  That occurred to me too, however, the resolution isn't large enough when it goes to print.

  2. I'm engineering a 3cm stone hood to go in a kitchen.  I'd like to show three progressive isometric views showing the various layers of construction.  I have set up three different isometric camera views using three different layer sets.  When I was finally able to get all three camera views onto the layout, the isometric cameras keep moving off center and I am unable to "pull" the layout boxes to get them re-positioned (end up with void white space as shown in middle).  I also got a strange error at one time telling me to contact tech support, but it didn't stay on the screen long enough for me to get all the info.  Has anyone had any luck with isometric views and layout?  Attached are the files if anyone can give me a hand.  Thanks, Kevin

  3. I've got a layout and on page 1 I want to show a camera view of the existing backside of the house.  On page 2 I want to show a camera view of my proposed changes.  Both cameras are generated from separate .plan files.  There needs to be some stretching and resizing to get the view to fit the layout properly.  I cannot figure out how to have both camera views show at the same size and in the identical place, however on two different pages of my layout - a sorta before and after that aligns perfectly when flipping through the pages.  I prefer to use plot lines so that I can touch up, but is this making it impossible to do?  Thanks.

@kwhitt - I really think most of the variation is due to lighting. In the screen clip below I've add some "lights" to the scene...and most of the variation disappears. The cabinet doors on the right I created...and painted with the material from your cabinet doors. I'm not an expert on "rendering"...so, I could be all wrong on this.

Hi Steve.  There's definitely a problem.  Did you make copies of the material and assign to different door fronts?  It's this replication that causes the problem and Michael found the issue.  Thanks.

Your problem doesn't seem to have anything to do with differences between the original material and its copies.  Rather, its a problem with the cabinet symbol itself and its apparent problem with consistently applying the Normal Map across the entire object.  Remove the assigned Normal Maps and the problem goes away, OR paint everything the same material and you'll see that the problem persists.  I suggest you report the problem to Technical Support.

Michael - you are correct.  It is the normal map.  Thanks for troubleshooting this.  I'll report it.

Are you applying the new texture with the paint tool and combining the two textures instead of replacing the texture?

Ryan - thanks for the reply.  No, that's not the case.  You can use the "Adjust Material Definitions" tool and see that they are unique materials.  I did some more experimenting with different render styles and the problem persists - attached is the PBR.

  7. I've been creating some wood materials for my cabinet designs.  When I try to make a copy of the original wood material and apply it to one of my doors to create variation in the grain, the overall appearance of the material gets darker than the original even though the texture maps and property settings are the same for all materials.  In the attached image, I have left 5 of the inset slab doors with the original material.  I copied this original material 5 times so that I could "move" the grain around to create some randomness (using the "Adjust Material Definition" tool and changing the horizontal and vertical offsets).  The copies are consistently darker.  When I try to replace the original material with yet another copy, I have the same problem.  It must have something to do with the fact that the slab doors that hold the material copies are selected outside the defaults (which is the only method by which I can assign a unique material in the first place).  Has anyone else run into this before?  I suppose the solution is to keep making copies of the original material and assign them to unique doors until all the materials are darker and the original is gone, but that is so much more work than just randomizing a few of them.  The file is attached if anyone has any interest or explanation as to why it works this way.

  9. I'm trying to create a pie-cut corner wall cabinet.  I've tried two methods and neither give me the appearance I'm after.

The first image shows two individual wall cabinets meeting at the wall corner.  As you can see the top rail overlaps back to each wall.

The second image shows Chief's out-of-the-box corner wall cabinet.  I don't want the additional frame stiles in the corner.

I was hoping someone had a workaround for this other than building the cabinet using P-solids.
