  1. Anyone that can answer,

When you place one of these fixtures, depending on the room type and where you place it such as a wall or ceiling they will automatically change to what is required for the condition. Such as a vanity light, wall sconce, can light....

    My question:

Is there a way to change those default settings?

Thanks for the Offer - but I'm going to just have the Fire Sprinkler Plans done by the specialists.  Probably by the one you suggested.

    Thats great!

The last job I did was 4800 square feet and the cost was 15k

Does anyone have an example of a "Fire Sprinkler Plan" submitted and approved by the building department?

I would like to provide this for my clients without having to get another specialist involved.

I have a plan for a fire sprinkler system from a previous job you can use as an example if you want it? It was the final plan submitted to the city.

I would want to send it directly to you if you want it. Let me know

  4. If your looking for someone this guy is very user friendly. They will do new and remodel. Maybe he will send you an example plan. Tell him I sent you as referral if you want.

My X12 install has a Patio room defined.

Thank you for sharing I thought I was loosing my mind thinking I created it!

You would think the patio would have the same settings as the porch as far as electrical is concerned. The only difference between the two is the patio is slab on grade and in the back yard and the porch is usually off the front entrance (slab or raised).

You will need to post the plan if you want more help.

It was kind of strange. When I put two vanity cabinets side by side the auto place outlets would not work but when I separate them it works fine.

If I take out one of the sinks it works fine also.

Where did the Patio room type come from?

There is no Patio room type OOB.

Did you create a new Patio room type?

Room Name and Room Type are 2 completely different things.

I don't remember doing it but I must have at some point.

How did you place these points - I assume manually because auto place electrical doesn't work for external room types.

I also assume you used the toolbar electrical drop down points.

This will not give you exterior points - you need to select these from the library.

The type of wall has nothing to do with the type of electrical point.

Yes, I thought because it is an exterior wall the light would automatically place as an exterior light just like it did at back deck.

However, I changed the patio to a porch and it worked as an exterior light. I didn't really know there was a difference between a patio and a porch as far as the electrical settings. Both are still exposed to the elements.

    No.

Invisible walls are ignored when auto placing electrical.

Make the invisible walls (room divider walls) visible, place outlets, make walls invisible.

Did you click in the second bathroom to place outlets - and they just did not place?

    It should work.

You need to click in each bathroom.

Yes I clicked in the second bathroom and the outlets didn't place but the lights did.

Hi Joe, hard to offer an opinion when the plan is not posted.

My apologies. I should have been more clear.
I'm not asking for a fix, I'm asking if anyone else is having similar problems with this in X12? If your not I will continue to figure it out myself but if this is typical behavior then I wont take the time to try and fix it. Not worth it.

    Thank you for your reply!

  11. Not sure if this is a glitch in the system or my settings.

    • Patio electrical lights and plugs do not come up as exterior even though it is an exterior wall and there is no problem with the deck area
    • Auto outlets show up in one bathroom but didn't place them in the other bathroom
    • Even though I have a room divider in between the Living Room and Kitchen the auto outlets put them in both when I selected only the kitchen and also added them to the hallway. Shouldnt the room divider keep it separate?

Note defaults can be used to control how notes are created when you place a new one using the Note tool.  You can create as many different saved note defaults as you like in the same way that you can create different defaults for dimensions, text, markers, callouts, etc.  The first picture below shows the dialog you can get to through the Default Settings dialog.  Only one saved note default can be the active default for the current view which controls how new notes will be created.  You can also set the active note default in several other ways including using the Edit Active View dialog or the Saved Plan View dialog.

Note types can be used to organize your notes in your note schedules.  The program comes with some generic note types already setup (Bath Notes, Construction Notes, Electrical Notes, etc.), but you can create as many new ones as you like.  When you create a note schedule, you can then specify that it will only contain notes of the specified type(s) that you want.  The second picture below shows you you can choose which note types to include in your note schedule.

In X12, you can also create custom categories for organizing schedules that will work with all objects and schedules.  These custom categories are more flexible than note types but are otherwise pretty similar.

Very well done Dermot!! That clears it all up for me.
I have another question for you.
I setup my library with all the same note types and I save the notes to the library note types I created. Is that the only way (or best way) to save the notes? Or is there another way?

You actually both Create AND Set Note Defaults.  This is true of all Multiple Saved Defaults.  You can’t set your Active Defaults to your Foundation Note Default if you don’t first create that default.

So you create a type and then set the default. I totally get it but this is where I have problems with written instruction.
Dermot say's; "you can create a new default" in his description but he misses a step in my opinion and its confusing. He isn't wrong but its just confusing and most instructions are like this and it messes with my head. Most of the time I'm just reading it wrong or missing something. I guess this is just my handicap and I have to deal with it. I can run multiple jobs and deal with several employees and subcontractor and make the money but I cant seem to follow simple instruction! LOL

Just to be clear, note defaults are not the same as note types.

You can create new note defaults in both X11 and X12 through the Default Settings dialog.

You can only create new note types from the Note Type Management dialog in X11.

You can also create new note types in the Note Specification dialog or the Note Defaults dialog in X12.  Please take another look at the picture I posted above.

The way this is written is confusing to me I think because you don't create a "Note Default"

    You crate a "Note Type"
    You set a "Note Default"

At least that's the way I understand it

  15. I use notes but its seems awkward the way I'm using them and I'm not good with written instruction. Video's and illustrations are easier for me to learn.
Are there any good help video's I could be missing that anyone is aware of? The one I have seen in Chief are not very helpful so far that I've seen.
Any help in this would be appreciated.
