  1. If the problem is the hole where the gable comes down and meets the shed, go into plan view and place a break near that point, then select the (corner) of the lower portion of the shed and drag it over until it perpendicular with the out side wall and that should fix it (I think). I am a long ways from being the expert, but in similar circumstances it worked for me.
  2. Can you post the plan, that will help a lot! Get answers much faster that way.
  3. Sunny, you might also consider checking with CA sales about their rental program where you pay a monthly fee for the product and SSA ( to own) which is extremely reasonable in my opinion. I did it, in a bind to get an extremely complicated project out the door and all I had at the time was Home Designer pro. The reason I suggest this although I am sure (having loved-ones dealing with Lupus) your income is extremely FIXED! If you intend to do much in the way of design work for income and comply with the increasingly stringent requirements of codes etc., HD pro may still be the route to go BUT in my case as it were, I could not produce the amount of detail needed for the contractor let-alone the codes / plan review and others required to approve the drawings and grant permits etc. Hope you the BEST! Happy New Year.
  4. I'm not in to Metric either! Like Perry, this old dog doesn't care to learn it!
  5. Glenn, YOU never cease to amaze me!
  6. Lake House Framed & Under roof So, the Lake house project is well underway. The client sent an up-to-date photo I wanted to share. Isn't IT great when you start to see one of your designs/projects coming to life I've asked for more and hopefully he will send a couple of the front of the house too! Looks just like the design! P:S: I made an attempt at just update the original post, but it vanished so I am not sure I did it correctly and thus a new thread. Lake House Framed & Under roof Dec 2015.pdf

  9. Anyone have experience with the Stanley Smart Tech Smart Measure Pro measuring device? I am finding more and more need of having something like the disto or similar. Working range of 450' is good enough for me. The accuracy may be of concern at +/- 3%.
  10. I am probably not the person to offer any help, but what I usually do is create a special wall type for similar situations I ran into on a project I recently completed. I just break the wall at the point where I need to add the interior wall, and then make it a special wall type (you know you can add layers as needed). At least that worked for me.
  11. I was told by a user on the forum, the best way to do this is to make the room you wish to have the higher ceiling a two story (I assume using the KB for doing a cape cod style) making the second floor open below, setting the wall heights to achieve the over-all ceiling height you want (12') that way your exterior finishes will not be interrupted (causing quirky unfinished appearing siding etc). I know, this sounds crazy to me, and I haven't actually done this so I am not sure if it works at all.
  12. You can adjust the orbit CL. http://www.chiefarchitect.com/support/article/KB-00067/spinning-the-model-in-a-camera-overview.html
  13. Well, the client is extremely upset (understatement). A heavy rainstorm (7" in two days) moved in and dumped tons of water on the site. He wasn't aware that when the original builder of the 2004 Lake House built, that he had not put any rebar in the footings, so with the pad cut out for the basement of the new lake house, and the retaining wall/foundation wasn't in yet, the existing house foundation was undercut, and the south end came down! My source says he got it shored up, and safed off, then backfilled and underpinned, the NE retaining wall-basement wall is in now and the builder will have less demo to do of the existing house in order to tie it into the new lake house. Pictures attached. According to my source, all this has transpired since May, they should be getting ready to start the framing, soon. Hopefully be able to post some more updates as soon as he sends them to me. 14. Glenn Woodward, you did a lot to help me advance my skills with CA and believe me it was a LIFE SAVER with the pressure I was under to get it done!. I'm told I've got another large one coming up (word of mouth from the Lake House client) His friend wants to build in the same area. I hope to be able to use (what I can remember) the skills you shared especially building the roof with the roof base line and practicing on the site plan. I hope the new client provides a better topo (maybe a gps version that I can import elevations from). I'll probably need a refresher from you on using the roof tools.
  15. Site work started back in the summer, on my Lake House Project. Just wanted to share some photos. The client said he would send updates as the construction progresses, I'm happy to see something I designed coming to fruition. 17. I did save the original but that's so far back that it would take more time to complete now than to keep going ahead the way I am. The client has offered to pay (of course, it's HIS mistake) and I am keeping track of the time. The big issue is he wants/needs it now and I just started a new job and can only work on it a couple hours at night (when I get off work and I'm worn out) you know the routine.
  18. Most LIKELY the first response you will get (besides my informational one) will be "what exactly are you asking help to do?" If you were using the trial version and created these plans, you couldn't have saved them (as far as I know). Are you asking someone to open these files and draw them in a HD pro version, If so; when it is drawn in the full version as you call it, it can't be opened in a "stepped down" version. So, PLEASE explain what it is you need help with.
  19. It has been a long while since I had issues that I needed help with from the GREAT people on this forum. Partially because Glenn Woodward had taken me UNDER HIS wing but mainly because I haven't given up! Gotten frustrated? Sure have, but giving up is just not an option. I was chided a time or two for asking what some thought were questions that would have answered themselves if I had done the right studying and searching the threads here, the user guide, and all the videos that have been provided for OUR benefits! LORD knows how many hours I spent doing ALL of THAT with a looming dead line to get from schematic to const. docs. I thought when I completed the construction plans on the Lake house it was finished. What started out to be a "simple" home plan 3K/sqft is now a 6000 sq ft mansion on the hill side. When I sited it, I DID MY BEST to place it for optimal view of the lake, but EARLY on the client decided it wasn't the best use of the land and siting it differently at a 12 degree angle from the existing house, SO I COMPLIED. The builder and the client both got CA X6 viewer and I kept them updated as I went until const-doc's were completed. Of course sent all the layout files for printing which they've done. So here we are when I thought I was finished, but IMAGINE my surprise when the client emailed a new sketch of the site plan, with the house now sited back the way I had started out. Apologetically he asked if I would revise the plans to now show the house at 90 degrees from the existing summer house because HE and HIS builder had started laying it out for the site work, and the original placement would GIVE THE BEST VIEW OF THE LAKE! Of course I will ;-( My GOOD friend Glenn has offered some ideas as to how it might be simplified (but to quote HIM "it will be messy") and I have used most of them, and IT HAS BEEN messy so far. I am getting there though and, I WILL get there eventually. SO with all this verbosity I just want to say THANKS TO ALL who helped get me down the road with X6 and I WILL persevere, hopefully without BUGGING you ALL to death! ;-)
  20. Thanks Joe. I did export to xcel and the client was ok with the work book I created for him, but he didn't like the way it looked pasted into the plan. The PDF's didn't look any better, sonI told him I would do further research to see what else I could do. I've about convinced him the spread sheets are the best way. As impressed as he was with using the X6 viewer he said......back to the horse and carriage!
  21. Ok Arthur I'm back. I think the time crunch has finally settled down. The client is using my Xcel spread sheets with the plans to guide his builder and subs, and the ID will do likewise working forward to make design choices. I DO want to get the hang of working with/editing schedules. Glenn Woodward helped me tremendously by finding the culprit schedules that were imbedded in my plan files (wound up in elevation camera some how) HONESTLY I didn't do it, but I think the boss slipped into the plan (since he has my license info too) he was wanting to HELP (particularly with the door schedule) although he didn't remember doing it, the double call-outs for doors and windows showed up after he worked on the doors to update them. Anyway, thanks to Glenn we found and fixed it! Now there are no DOUBLE CALL OUTS! I still would like to set the finish schedule up to edit the column and row content (and the client wanted me to insert columns for heated under roof room sqftg and unheated under roof room sqftg and remove all the other info so the ID can have a clean slate to work with. I modified the column info in the schedule dbx, but that seems to be the extent of the modifications I can make without converting to a text document, correct? I did modify the columns for the above, but looks like I have to convert the schedule to a text document, that will have to be edited / updated to include the ID's direction and final finish materials and selections.
  22. Both ways worked, but PERSONALLY I don't think it is going to do his builder/and subs what he wants it to. I've got to figure out how to get the CA schedules into a layout without screwing up my plan (adding double call outs on doors and windows). I keep trying!
  23. The client does not wish me to use the CA X6 produced schedules. I exported the schedule info for all schedules to XCEL format so he and his ID can edit them manually. I am not sure the best way to get them imported/pasted into a layout sheet. YOU my helpers suggest creating cad detail sheet, but I am not quite sure how to do that without messing up what I've done already. I ABSOLUTELY have no more time for experimenting or trying to learn another process, Thanks for the help
  24. I did a cntrl alt delete and closed CA. Lost my revisions on the elev detail, but it didn't take long to add them back. As far as the SEH exception I did check my system, the software etc as the kb suggest and didn't see anything so the saga continues.
  25. WELL, maybe I spoke too soon. I followed your advise Joe. But as soon as I closed the elevation section and it updated my layout sheet with the revised info, an error message popped up. I clicked on send report to CA, and also click OK, but the message keeps popping up and won't let me close it, or work on my plan or layouts. I didn't want to do a cntrl alt delete because of possibly loosing everything I've accomplished today. ANY suggestions? UPDATE-each time I click ok, the error menu closes, but before I can save plan/layout or close either it pops back up like a virus. IF I DO A CNTRL ALT DELTE AND CLOSE CA WILL IT PREVENT CA FROM SAVING AN AUTO UPDATE OF PLAN AND LAYOUT FILES?
