Thanks Yusuf!

I took anElev section, zoomed in drew a poly line over the facia, then made it a PLS set the mat'l and thickness, did a select object drag out the width I needed, then copied pasted in place, did a reflect about to dup the other side. Bottom chord poly line solid, the make one edge arched and parallel the other arch. The vertical fret work pretty much the same. Then selected all members and made it an arch block and saved in my user library. Glenn Woodward gave me a quick tutor on the how to use the tool.

The plywood soffit (bottom of my eve overhang on the porch) is exploding away from the rafters. Previously when that happened the roof planes over an entry on a skewed section of the plan (6degree angle) weren't parallel. This time that's not the case. I'm pretty sure it isn't the timber trusses I added, as I did a similar cover on the 2nd floor deck where the existing summer house main level accesses the lake house 2nd floor deck, and no problem with the soffit plywood there!? I checked the dbx on the roof planes to Bsure the rafter sizes are the same. Plywood thickness is the same also. I AM SURE it's an easy fix! AT the end of the day, however; I am almost BRAIN DEAD! My final results aren't perfect, but SO MUCH BETTER than when I started, and any way, the client wasn't too concerned about THEM being perfect, as He is have them built in a millwork shop and they'll provide SHOP DWGS first before constructing them. At least my model expresses the intent he's looking for. YAY!

Group Select Arch Block Vs Cad Block To Model Timber Truss
Evolution replied to Evolution's topic in General Q & A
Glenn, I did use the poly line solid conversion and make an Architectural block of each timber truss size I needed, and added them to my user library. For once completely on MY OWN! IS MY BRAIN TIRED?!?! YOU BET! -
YOU WIN THE GOLDEN RING! The Print View that opens in CA changed the paper size and I didn't catch that.

Searched the forum and see several reponses to the question about print set up, PDF's, send to layout, printing etc. As luck would have it, I didn't find anything specific to this particular question in the knowledge base. Client's contractor wants me to print construction plans (floor plans) to 1/4"=1' on 24X36. It seems that printing pdf to 1/8"=1'scale paper size 12 X 18 and let him take to printer and have enlarged would work just as well, in practice it appears to fit ok; except, when I send 1/4 scale floor plans to layout on 24X 36 it doesn't fit. Am I going about this WRONG (I suspect)?

Group Select Arch Block Vs Cad Block To Model Timber Truss
Evolution posted a topic in General Q & A
Thanks to Glenn Woodward (S-AU) I was able to get as far as I have (see clip) model one of several varying size timber trusses for the current plan I've been working on. I need to duplicate it, however, when group selecting and making a cad block everything disappears, literally!, thankfully I used a back up copy to work on, but now that I have it to this point (which I readily admit is NOT PERFECT) I cannot seem to find a way to (group) select it copy paste etc., or use the multiple copy tool, in 3D I can select some parts but not the rafters for instance, even in elev section camera only certain pieces are selectable. Glenn's suggestion was to build the roof framing, then (for instance) select a rafter copy it, and make it the top chord (thickness etc., as needed). The remaining "fret work". The arched bottom chord are poly line solids. Your kind help appreciated. Plan is attached. I forgot to mention I DO have framing turned on in all views. Current Progress Set 2.6.2015.zip -
Thanks Arthur. Seriously though, key word search snap and snap grid brought me no where previously. I even used "snap grid" "camera angle snap" etc., and stil no help. So I went to each Parent tool and FINALLY under view, down near the bottom, there was THAT little BOOGER child tool "angle snap grid" but no snap properties. Of course the real answer is CRAM and CRAM and CRAM some more and if you can REMEMBER all the stuff you've CRAMMED you might be able to find the things you're looking for. Thanks again! Now on to the next issue and thread to post.

I am sure IT IS SOMETHING I'VE DONE (and if I knew what it was-I would un-do it), however, after searching hours last night, and a few this AM, I am unable to figure out WHAT I DID or how? But now when I place a camera, or select it to move/relocate the (assume) snap / or drag angles appear as a sun burst araound it. Also, shows up when I select a wall to drag or move. I REALLY-REALLY have done the word search here, and the help KB's, User manual, I just haven't found exactly what it is or how to turn it on/off! BELIEVE ME, I have exhausted the research attempting to find the answer, it may be I'm just not entering the correct word for what I'm searching for.

To all: haven't been avoiding the topic/responses, just having to focus on other pressing issues to get the progress set out. Made the dead-line but def many little "foxes" to get out of the vinyard! While waiting on a response from the client / code people, I was cleaning up (or at least trying to) some of those nuances. Back to the barrel vault. I will give a look at the video HTH asap. Of course the client's ID wanted a eye-stopper for the kitchen barrel, and I've spent a great deal of time getting it close. Not only does it barrel the width of the cooking/island area, but longitudinally projects into the great room. Interestingly enough I have it a pretty close, at least making the ID happy (temporarily). In working it out, I noticed what looks like (in elevation section camera view) the drywall dropping down like a thin soffit) partially covering the view of the cabinets. Upon closer view, and after attempting several opp's to get rid of it, unable to select it in plan, elevation , full camera or any other way, I have NO IDEA what it is or how it suddenly became a part of the plan??? I still have the open holes at each end and on one side-go figure? The MSTR BTH/MSTR BD barrels are also a work in progress and I will see if an attic wall will take care of it. I am zipping and posting the plan each time now, so if you open it keep in mind I am aware of a "lot of little" things to work on, and WILL as I get closer to the fine details. Right now, help with the bigger things is always appreciated. 1.30.2015 PROGRESS SET.zip

Forgot to rotate texture :0 that was it. It pays to go back and look again and again!
-
Thanks Larry! I did the copy paste material to the slab but the results weren't what he was hoping for, so I continue to work with it. As time permits today, I plan to get back to it and will give the recommendations a try. Thanks for the texture link, I will look into that also.
-
Just as I THOUGHT! ZOOMED in so close and could see a slight miss-alignment in the ridge, but there was a ridge cap some how. Kept joining roof planes several times, (after copy pasting the good side and rotating as previously attempted) this time IT WORKED!!! If at first you don't succeed, stop sucking those seedless oranges! BTW-I know there is a gap between the top of the columns and the eve beam. That's on purpose. I've yet to model the special curved decrotive trusses, and other fret work that will finally become a part of the (timber frame look)when finished. I just haven't had the time to work on them (and since they keep changing things I thought it wise to wait).

The client sent me a photo of a custom fireplace he wants in his great room (with modifications). I had very little difficulty modeling it to his EXTREME satisfaction, however; of all things the custom shelf has turned out to be a mule! I modeled it in sketch up (and he was ok with it) but, I can't down load the program to the company server (Tech Director said absolutely NOT). So, I save it to file on my lap top, opened the plan on the lap top, inserted the custom shelf and BANG, thought I had it. Problem is, when I open the plan on the CO server it is no longer a supported file (no sketch up on the main server). Long story longer, I wound up using a custom slab, changing the mat'l to wood. Can't get the wood grain to run horizontally. I opened the slab dbx, then material, then selected plan, edit and change the angle of the texture, but it still looks like butcher block to me. Sent a clip to him to see what he thought, he loved everything except the "butcher block shelf". I am looking for a "rough" texture I can import as a material etc., then maybe apply it to the slab, but I haven't found anything that looks quite right. Who might have one in your pocket?
-
I did try that. Adjusting the angle seems to be the issue. I will give it another try ASAP.

I placed (the roof cover over the steps per the clients request) I selected both roof planes (one at a time), and checked boxed eve for each, however the boxed eve shows only on one eve. The placement of the columns has nothing to do with it, as they were placed after everything else (steps, roof, etc) were already done. It may be due to the fact the angle of the existing summer house to the main house is 6 degrees off of perpendicular. I added the odd angles to the snap dialog hoping it would be accepted by the software, but I also did the make parrallel tool for insurance. The join roof tool worked fine for joining the roof planes as far as I can determine, I just can't get the boxed eve on the one plane. I don't think this client is ever going to STOP changing things that affect the roof, but currently it's "one day at a time"! Current Progress Set 2.2.2015.zip

Had to save, close plan, close X6, restart X6 and reopen file, finish schedule updated.
-
Generated Door Window and room finish schedules, first time with X6. I noticed when reviewing the finish schedule, that the room names were all "unspecified". I opened several of the room dbx's, and made sure the designation was selected for each room i.e. Master Bedroom. In some cases where I had rooms that they wanted to use a different designation i.e. Game room (no room designation in the table) I selected family room, then selected use the name I assigned to it. Looking back at the finish schedule nothing had updated. All the rooms still show unspecified. I deleted the finish schedule, then regenerated it, and still the room names have not updated. Is this typical? I could not select a specific room on the schedule and change it's name from unspecified to the desired room name. I was going to review the finish schedule with the client and their ID tonight, but doesn't appear it will be of any advantage except to just print it out and let them mark each room and it's finishes. User ERROR I'm sure!

You don't need two. You start the plane for the curved ceiling, the manual says to stop about halfway the width then select again drag to outline the extent. I usually do them wall to wal, in this case in the middle of the room, however I tried it both ways using a divider wall and went back and tried the invisible wall. I am sure there is a fix although I haven't discovered it yet ( AND YES I TRIED IT FIRST BEFORE POSTING HERE) , where it bumps a wall no problem, where it stops and the windo alcove (bump out) there is a hole above ceiling. SO DUMB ME, I will continue to experiment LATER when I have more time. This will suffice for now.
-
I have severa areas in this plan the client wants barrel ceilings. These do not go wall to wall. In the past I use an invisible wall to create the out line/boundry for the barrel ceiling plane then follow the basic steps. Is it better to use the divider wall? Can it be used for that purpose? I need to move on to other things and will come back to this momentarily, so if anyone has a "best-way" to do it would you mind sharing? Thanks

I'd like to THANK ALL OF YOU for the help, constructive criticism, the fixes suggested, the work you did on the plan updates.....BELIEVE ME is worth so much more than a THANK YOU!. I MUST thank Glenn Woodward the MOST, for changing my DIAPER, and taking me by the hand and TEACHING/SHOWING ME where I went wrong and TURNING a miserable WEEK-end for me, into a SUCCESSFUL finale! At least the main issues are 99.99% solved and NOW I can move on with adding the ARCHITECTURAL garnish, and start working on the elaborate details that have been ADDED by the client. Hopefully, after their progress plan review this week, they will TURN me loose to do that, and WILL STOP making so many more changes. I've got to get the thing nailed down if they want me to start sending cad files to their respective MECH/ELEC/STRUCT/ CIVIL Engineers. AGAIN, THANK YOU FOREVER GLENN for your PRICELESS help! Bob

I worked on the last updated plan I attached that was saved before to attempt to get all the geometry the same. All main floor ceiling heights (except great room) are all the same. I can go back later and make sure the stem wall heights are the same that shouldn't affect the roof. I also cleaned up the INTERIOR dimensions of all main floor, adjusted the basement wall per the client to line up inside to inside with walls on main floor to provide a ledge for the rock to sit on. See the attached and latest updated plan I hope the file has data in it, the pre zip was 16326KB and the zip only shows 1KB. CURRENT FLR PLAN 1.18.2015 GEOMETRY FIXED SUMMER HOUSE NO FOUNDATION.zip
-
I found the original floor (updated without roof auto rebuild) before I added the summer house. I had DRAWN the summer house but had NOT built the foundation, at this point the Lake House basement was ok (just needing some dimension tweaking. Updated plan before basement messed up! NO ROOF.zip
-
Perry, that's how I discovered the problem. But I did an auto build on the summer house roof, that IT is fixed, but the main (lake house) roof is still a mess from the last auto roof build. I have saved that last plan even with the foundation problems created from adding the summer house to the mix of things.I am attempting to Manually adjust those roof planes but there are SO MANY lines to look at it's hard to figure out what to delete/modify. I have turned some of the layers off, but so far it is still a bit confusing to look at! I went back to one of SCOTT's roof videos, (HE MAKES IT LOOK SO SIMPLE) and am trying to figure out what display items he turns off. HE moves so fast and I move SO slow!
