  1. I have noticed something strange. Well strange to me, maybe it makes sense but I can't see why. I want to make a cathedral ceiling, The eave facia is deeper than the gable fascia and when I look at an overall view this is what I see. Is there an easy fix for this? The attached file is just an experimental file that I was using to learn how to control roof and soffit features. Also to get roof framing to behave without excessive thinning. Test ceiling file.plan
  2. Thank you gentlemen. Both of the observations and suggestions were very helpful and have solved the problem.
  3. Yes I did that before posting this. But here is a regen of the framing for the ceiling and the roof Ceiling through roof plane.mp4 Ed Markoulakis-PLC_DELL_LT aug 20.plan
  4. Does anyone have any idea why this is happening? The roof plane cuts through the ceiling plane so that near the exterior wall the ceiling is the bottoms of the roof rafters.
  5. Joe, You are saying that the room finish schedule only shows one finish type despite the actual finishes on various room walls? Doug
  6. Gosh Rod thanks for the perspective. I would never have designed a house like this but it is an as built that needs modifications. It seems that as built are way tougher to do than new designs. I have been using CA for about a year and a half now. Always learning more. Thanks once again.
  7. Rod, Here is the new plan file. I have made some adjustments, but that darned wall is still visible, or at least one part of it is. The default elevations have been set for the rear of the house. Doug Test building to get second story crawl space.plan
  8. Rod. OK will do. I will let you know the results. Doug
  9. Hi Rod. Thanks for your comments. Hopefully, the following comments may help explain where I am with this design. I gave up on trying to use a default room setting for structure because this house has different floor levels at the rear of the house versus the front. They are different by 12" This is true for both the first and second floor. In addition, the floor for the room in the garage has a different floor. What I am trying to accomplish is to make the wall dividing the balcony space from the floor over the room in the garage invisible. Because the floor for the room in the garage is a second floor, the floor over the crawl space is a third floor. That floor has to match up with the balcony floor, which is a second floor. Maybe I am wrong, but the default settings are useful only if it works for most of the house. No default setting would seem to work for this design. Similarly ceiling levels are also different in several locations. The same is true for the roof planes.
  10. Hi Eric.  I am so very frustrated with my room over room problem.  I have posted an updated plan file with new images of the problem.  Is it possible for you to take a peek and let me know where I am going wrong?   Here is the link to the Q&A post.

    Thanks

    Doug

  11. Hey guys, please. I am getting a headache with this. No matter what I do I either lose a floor in the room in the garage, or a wall shows up where it shouldn't. Please take a look.
  12. OK so I have wrestled with this house for waaaaaayyy too long. Still, the room over the room is fighting me. I think I am getting close. This is an as-built design, with a new flat roof over a storage space in the garage to give the client stand up space in the storage room. The house is complex and I have not even begun to work on the basement which has two floors. One of the floors contains a built-in swimming pool. That should be fun. There is a basement level under the garage as well. The storage room over the garage has a crawl space on the right side of the room when viewed from the front of the house. I have included a couple of screenshots so that you can get an idea of where I am trying to go with this. There are a few other problems that I am having with walls not stopping at intersections on interior surfaces and exterior surfaces as well. Test building to get second story crawl space.plan
  13. Yup, I think you nailed it. Thanks Shane
  14. This is not the entry. The entry is ok. This is a room that is over a garage. The second floor juts into the garage. Maybe my test building doesn't show that very well. I will be darned. When I aligned the walls for the second and third story, the invisible was was, well, invisible. It works. Thanks to anyone who puzzled over this. Test building to get second story crawl space.plan
  15. Here is about as close as I could get with a test building. This has 3 stories but even though the wall is set to invisible on the third floor for the room in the center, one surface remains visible when viewed from the room on the right. The goal here is to have a very short room with what could be described as a crawl space. This is an as build situation. I have been tearing out what little hair I have out.
  16. Wow I seem to get all the jobs that are really difficult to do in CA. Maybe it is just me, and I don't have a grasp of how to do unusual things yet. I don't know. In any case can someone please tell me how to do this floor area? The room is a split level from other floor areas in the house. And the ceiling IN THE ROOM is split level. Arrrgggg. Sure would be nice if I could do a poly wall with half of it invisible. Can that be done? Any suggestions would be very welcome. Regards Doug Ed Markoulakis.plan
  17. Steve. I loaded your fine and this is what I get. What part of the porch roof is not displaying for you?
  18. Charles, I am not up to my usual game I suppose but I don't understand how that is related to the question.
  19. Hi Eric, Thanks for your reply, but I was referring specifically to the option by the red arrow. It was there in CA x9 but not there in CA x10. The image is from version x9 In version x10 it looks like this
  20. Does anyone know if this option is available in CA X10? And if so, where did it go?
  21. Chopsaw, Thanks for that. I had to customize my menu, it just wasn't there. Maybe I deleted it somehow.
  22. Does anyone know how to edit the name of an existing layerset? It is easy to create them, but darned if I can see a way to change the name of an existing layerset.
  23. Assuming that you have an MS Windows machine, do a search using File Explorer looking for " *.plan " (without the quotation marks). Somewhere on your computer, you will find the file that is the one that you and your husband were working on. Then in this forum, you can upload the file by clicking on the link that is present when you are typing a message like this. Please note that the file must not be open in Chief Architect when you attach it, otherwise it will not upload.
  24. Eric, What an elegant solution.
