  1. Yup Eric, I get it. They do add to, not take away, and taking away is what I want to do. So I have to create a base that is, say 4" Thick, and if the chamfer is 1" x 1" then the base has to be 2" smaller in length and width and I add the molding to the outside all around. If I want the angle to be 45 degrees then I need to create a profile with the 40 degree cut in it that is 4" tall, otherwise the angle would change when adjusting the height. I sure would be nice to have a chamfer tool that works on solids and slabs.
  2. Solver your option box has something mine is missing Here is my countertop option So there is no way to take away the corner.
  3. Here is the plan file Stick Build Shelter as built.plan
  4. Solid subtraction doesn't seem to work. Neither does the countertop, the molding goes the wrong way, out instead of in.
  5. Guys, this should be really simple, but for some reason I am at a mental roadblock. How do I chamfer the top edges of this slab?
  6. The plan file that you sent doesn't seem to match the image in your question. Are you trying to move the door that is circled in red? There is a wall on the other side of the wall that the door is mounted in, and moving it further to the right would interfere with that wall and the bath tub, or am I missing something here? My phone number is in my signature, maybe give me a call and we can chat about this problem?
  7. Yet another Canadian designer jumps into the "we can help with that" boat. I am located near Toronto, and am a registered designer. Be glad to offer my services to get you to the building permit stage with complete construction drawings.
  8. Hi, like the previous poster, I am located in Canada near Toronto. I have done a few historical house renovations over the years, and would be happy to have a look at your project. Are you looking for actual dimensionally correct as built drawings or for models that reflect the exterior look and feel?
  9. Just a little confused by your posting. Where is the pony wall? I can't see it in the 3d rendering. Where exactly do you want the door? It looks like there are doors in every place that you could put a door? Try posting the plan file as well. That way someone trying to help you can look at the model.
  10. Hey Rob, thanks for the suggestion. That is a pretty good way to tackle the problem. Using an independent layer will allow this to be shown in some views, and not others but still see the window label.
  11. Actually, I have been so busy trying to get projects pushed out ahead of Christmas I didn't try. sorry to say. My bad.
  12. Here is something to watch. Keep the view on the layout inside the boundary of the drawing page area. If you don't clip the viewport the PDF will go nuts.
  13. ShaneK Yes that is what I am going to do. I just wondered if I was missing something. It would be good to be able to explode the bay window assy.
  14. Can't tell the difference here, but what about the plan view, sections and framing? What about the door sill?
  15. Not really. Not a bad idea, but this is for submission for a building permit.
  16. I have a two-story building that I am designing and it has a bay window on the first and second floor that aligns with the first floor. The first floor window has been replaced by a sliding patio door. I can see no way of putting a door in the walls generated by the bay window option. You may delete a window, or insert another window, but not a door. Is there a way to do this, other than to replace the bay window with discrete walls?
  17. Yeah, I did that but the plans examiner wants them on the windows in elevation view. Sometimes I think they are just cruel.
  18. Hmmm... I will have to work on it. Learning the ruby stuff is interesting.
  19. In doing some ruby stuff to automate information required by building department code examiners, so I wrote a bit of simple code to get this. But I need that in an elevation, not in a plan view. No joy it seems. Anyone know why this is?
  20. Ed. That is exactly what I was hoping for. I have a few commercial units to layout, a pharmacy and a restaurant.
  21. A floor plan would be a good thing to see, and perhaps the plan file. You can attach files by clicking on the "choose files..." link at the bottom left corner when you are composing a message in this forum. Also please take the time to fill out your signature
  22. Just want to ask how those of you who really know CA, what do you do for a reflected ceiling plan? I have used the electrical layer tools, but if there is something that I a better practice, I would like to learn about it. Thanks in advance for your comments.

    Wood Stove

Michael, You are right! I don't know how I missed that. Thanks Doug
  24. I have a client for whom I am designing a sunroom. He wants a wood stove in the design, and I was surprised that there are none in the Chief Architect library. Has anyone done one? Something like this?
  25. 3ds max would be a good candidate.
