  1. Dermot, Thank you for being present in the forum. You are constantly helpful and proof that CA cares about its users, and that makes us all grateful to be using CA.
  2. I see, it is actually at the other end of the copy paste process. Thanks Eric!
  3. The only option I see when right clicking on a library option is to copy. There is no option to copy a link that I can see.
  4. Yes, first of all make sure all rooms have default values for floor and ceiling heights (unless you have a specific reason for making them something else.) Then make sure all rooms are in the same framing group. Framing should then work properly. If there is a room with a floor level other than the default, that room will have a rim joist all around it.
  5. As would luck would have it, this is a custom house, and a single storey ranch at that.
  6. Ah now there lies the rub.... Just how in the heck would you do that, in some sort of meaningful time. In my experience doing material take-off is a profession in its own right. Not something that, hey what the heck, yesterday I was a brain surgeon, and the day before that an economics expert, tomorrow I will do construction material take off. Sigh...
  7. So that leaves a big question. Well two questions really. 1) How much should be charged for supplying a take off AND (the big one) 2) Who is responsible if the takeoff is wrong by some significant margin?
  8. Oh no, I am 76 now. That means that to get my money's worth out of these drives I have to live to about 160!!
  9. Lines over lines really don't matter if they are using the dwg file to pick measurements. AutoCAD has a really easy way to change the background colour. Also a pretty good layer management system for changing layer colours. If the AutCAD user can't manage this, I would be questioning the qualifications of the engineer.
  10. Yeah, here is a copy of the email from the supplier. From: xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Sent: Wednesday, April 13, 2022 3:49 PM To: Doug Norton <info@measurite.ca>; John Cranston <jcranston66@outlook.com> Subject: Re: 825 Jomar Ave Pickering Hi Doug & John, I need final plans to do an accurate lumber take-off. Please forward them when they are available and we will take another look - or alternatively please forward a list of material required and we will be happy to price it out. Thanks, Lisa. I sent a return email explaining that until a permit is issued my drawings are always stamped not for construction. That these are, in fact, final drawings. She then sent back, "Send material take off and I will quote." lol
  11. Hi Mark, I plan on adding an archive HDD to the machine, moving an existing one from my current machine. Doug
  12. Thanks for the update Michael. A client's supplier just asked for it to quote the building package. I wanted to be sure before I generated it.
  13. After all the years using CA I have never done a materials list. Do you have to generate all the framing to get the list complete?
  14. I have installed to 2 2T SSD. One is for the OS and everything related to CA on that drive. Libraries, templates, everything, including project files, that are mirrored to MS One Drive. All of my project files amount to about 180GB. So not that much really. The second drive is for all other programs and all data that isn't related to CA. Could I improve things by not installing CA on the OS drive? Would it make that much difference?
  15. Send the file through a link to OneDrive, Google Drive or Drop Box, among many methods for sending files too large to upload or send by email As far as the wall detail, is he looking for a plan view of the assembly or a vertical section? Perhaps just making a cad section manually and sending him that would suffice.
  16. The advantage of exporting from a plan file is that everything is a 1:1 scale. Also the border, title block etc are not exported. It is just a cleaner export for doing CAD work in AutoCAD. Just my 2 cents.
  17. Try posting the plan file, and what specifically your engineer is looking for. What is the objection that the engineer has, just posting that he couldn't use the dwg file is not really explaining the problem. Someone could come up with a useful answer to your question with enough information.
  18. Here is a useful tutorial from Rene Rabbit.
  19. Create a moulding polyline around the top of the pool and then make a coping shape to act as a pool coping. Texture the coping with a suitable tile.
  20. I am surprised at the price! Just about the same for both.
  21. Just out of curiosity, how much performance gain is there between an i7 12700k and an i9? The i7 is already 12th generation. That means you can use DDR5 memory with an i7. I opted for 4800 mHz. I have seen some videos with motherboards having a hard time registering (sometimes) all the memory with faster memory. Just my opinion but as building designers, we need the fastest STABLE computers possible. Bleeding edge speeds are great for gamers that can spend hours tweaking BIOS settings, but I just need to be working along with my design ideas, and not waiting for the computer to catch up. For me I am nearly there now with my current setup, with large projects dragging me down to painful waits. Again, just my opinion, but why spend more than you really need for a CA machine than you really need. (Unless you are a gamer as well...lol) Any thoughts?
  22. I am building it. One hicup so far. The CPU cooling rig didn't have the right mounting bracket for the i7 12700k. Just waiting for it to arrive. Deepcool is sending one at no charge.
  23. Yes I suppose I could write a series of macros for the conversions that I do the most. Maybe I should stop whining about this ..... lol
  24. I see where you are coming from Michael. From my point of view saving the extra typing would be worth it, as I use area analysis a lot on my projects, and most of that involves units that are not supported by value.to_unit. Typing value.to_s("unit") just adds places where I will make a typing mistake. (I know, a typing mistake while coding? Unheard of.) Besides it would be great to have just one standard way of doing something.
