I would like to know how many people would like to see an option for the interior and exterior of a door to be the same. for instance I have very few interior doors with different materials "in and out". I find this to be a PITA, not sure if anyone agrees with me. This appears to be an early decision by ART that has never been looked at for improvement. I seem to one of one who finds these things very frustrating. I'm looking forward to hearing from other people on this subject. Along with this it would be great to have HM jambs as an option, I do use them in some of my custom contemporary homes. And all our Small Commercial T.I. projects.

i would suggest versacad, CA, company. I've been using it since 1983 great for cad. FAST, FAST. FASTEST. Years ago someone had a cad shootout and an Aussie won every year using VCAD.

DOUG, WE HAVE BEEN ASKING FOR DOOR CHANGES SINCE VER 9.5. IT TOOK I DON'T KNOW HOW MANY VERSIONS FOR YOU TO ADD A PATIO DOOR, WHICH IMO IS STANDARD IN 99% OF RESIDENCES. THE INTERIOR AND EXTERIOR DOOR IN THE DBX ISN'T VERY USEFULL. I HAVE NEVER SPECIFIED A DOOR WITH DIFFERENT MATERIALS IN AND OUT MAYBE COLOR ONLY. THERE MUST BE A WAY TO HANDLE THAT. rON -

Dan, Where does Chief sit on this? IMO this should already be part of the program. I think we all would like to hear when some of these shortcomings will be addressed. Can I add Hollow metal doors and frames. It would be great to have the ability to shoe a HM frame shape in place of std casings. Just my two cents worth. Ron or as Scott calls me the chromogen -
It used to be part of your upgrade, oh well progress is great. I don't remember the price going down when they stopped giving us a manual.

I think you now should be the head of the choir Scott.

When I got rid of my plotter I purchased an Epson WF 7520, it prints up to 13X19 therefore half size of "D" size. Worked great once I realized that the larger paper had to be in bin 1 and the 8.5x11 in bin 2. If you use the larger in bin 2 it jambs. The printer is not great for photos you have to clean the heads every time you want to print a photo. The scanner is very slow but works well. All in all it is great for larger prints.

Great for Her, glad to hear it.

Me TOO. I spent 30 years in NH doing Architecture. (www.raltd.net)

It seems that quite a few people from the old forum have not switched over or have left Chief. For instance our Friend from Portsmouth who always had qreat input. Her postings are sorely missed. Anyone know where these people went.

Larry, Right on. In my case even thought I've had Chief since version 4, I've always used VCAD to finish my projects. I'm slowly trying to more and more in chief and with the complexity of the program these days it is difficult. These discussions are a great help for all. Thanks for your input. Joe is a visionary and from what DSH says a great golfer. Ron

Doug, Storing is an area that should be investigated. I have trouble because I forget that a detail is not in the layout folder. I for one keep hoping that dbx or something will be worked out to help us with this. Ron

Dan, When is room planner going to be available for Android? It would be nice to have it. Thanks. Ron

It's the sunglasses Perry.

I thought it was automatic with the last couple of upgrades.

Thanks Lew. My draftsman has a Disto and it is great he does more remodels than I do. If it weren't for the price I would own a Disto. It would be great if Chief published their app for Android. It seems like the are catering to the MAC people. That Scott Hall has juice with them. He is a suckup and a looser at golf.

When you get an answer please publish it. I have the problem all the time.

I still wonder why the programmers can't figure out how to trace the location of layout stuff without it being in the same folder. Again it is a PITA.
-
Great idea and discussion Joe. I don't have a set plan and think I should. As many of you know I still do all my detail work in VCAD translate it to DWG and import to Chief. I can draw much faster in VCAD than in Chief for the work I do. I am very open to new ways of storing CAD Details though.
-
Its a PITA not being able to do that.
-
Lew you did not read once again. Disto is better but much more expensive. I have 1 or 2 remodels a year the Stanley works just fine and I haven't remodeled Michael Jordons house so 300 feet isn't a problem.
-
Disto is the best but pricy. I baught the Sanley due to the fact that I do very little field measuring. I tested it against a Disto and the measurements were within a 1/16" goo enough for me.
-
Lew I started drafting at my Father's side at 7yo. He had me do a measured plan of the first floor of our house. WOW that was 68 years ago. I could not draft like that myself today. Oh how times have changed.

Thanks Perry. That was kind of a transition to Computer drawings. All Ink on Mylar with press on letters. I had pages of standard stuff and copied onto stickybacks. By the end I was pretty fast with ink. Then in 1984 the price of pc cad came down to a place I could afford. Almost $ 20,000.00 for software HP Vectra Digitizer and Pen Plotter. Never looked back. Started with VersaCad.
