  1. Just an FYI. This is referred to as a clerestory. From wiki... "In architecture, a clerestory (/ˈklɪərstɔːri/ KLEER-stor-ee; lit. 'clear storey', also clearstory, clearstorey, or overstorey) is a high section of wall that contains windows above eye level. The purpose is to admit light, fresh air, or both. Historically, clerestory denoted an upper level of a Roman basilica or of the nave of a Romanesque or Gothic church, the walls of which rise above the rooflines of the lower aisles and are pierced with windows. Similar structures have been used in transportation vehicles to provide additional lighting, ventilation, or headroom."

  3. Hi, 1. Click on default settings. 2. Open the Room Label dialog box. 3. Select "Use Layer for Text Style". 4. Select "Room Labels" in the Active Layer Display Options (ALDO). 5. Change the text style in each Layer Display Set you want to set differently. . If you have already named all the rooms you can select each room label and set it up as step #3.
  4. So far it's great. Except that it does not include my preferred font. It is very annoying to now change my fonts on all annotation sets. Other then the usual reconfiguring tool bars and whatnot for every upgrade, seems awesome so far.
  5. Hello everyone, When creating the as-built model and getting the actual living area it often conflicts with the listed living area on the property title. This happens for lots of reasons but it is usually because at some point an assessor measured the exterior and came up with a number. It can be a few feet to a few dozen off. The question is what do you list on your plans in this situation? The building department checks and if your number does not match the title they bring it up. So do you get it changed or just show it as listed? I've run into a few instances where the floor area ratio is tight and a few feet makes a big difference. Just curious how everyone deals with that.
  6. Two questions... Is the Camera layer on in that view? And/or what color is assigned to that layer?
  7. Also in "Adjust Sunlight" play with a yellower color. It seems to counter the blue from the backdrop nicely.
  8. Hi Larry, Do you see any invisible walls? In the last image it looks like an exterior door going out to a possible deck? Has a room been created where the deck would be? It looks like a deck to wall intersection. Just a guess.

  11. Thanks. It is v.23.3.0.81. I do file-> import -> DWG. And the DWG file is saved in the same folder as the plan. Same issue no matter the plan or the DWG file. It locks up every time. Strange.
  12. Hi all, Just curious if this has happened to anyone else. Since I downloaded the latest update I have been unable to import DWG's. When I try the whole thing freezes and I have to force a shut down. The DWG import dialog doesn't even pop up. Just a hard lock up. Never experienced any other glitch with the update.

  14. I have worked in many jurisdictions where 3/16" scale is forbidden. 1/4" or 1/8" for floor plans. That's it. Best to check with the AHJ first.
  15. Hey everyone, Just wanted to see if anyone else has issues with this. I almost never use the regular elevation camera for the elevations. There are usually things in the background that do not need to be shown. This is especially necessary when the terrain slopes up beyond the building. Also certain interior cross sections do not need to show the walls beyond. Y'all are know what I'm talking about. Anyway. I love the ability to do this but I dislike that the view line that is generated by the view is able to be selected when in plan view. When you have several elevations along the X and Y axis it creates a minefield of selectable lines. I know we can just lock that camera layer but when you need to open the elevation you either need to unlock it or go to another plan view. It is a minor thing but I would appreciate it if the cross sections cameras are only selectable like the regular elevations. I can't think of a reason why they would be different. I appreciate anyone's feedback. Thanks
  16. Seems like Chief would make that easier considering how common it is. The unit in the bonus catalogue does not show up in the schedule correctly. Of course you can build it piece by piece but that is not for novice users. I sometimes make another room for the window box. Set the floor and ceiling height for this room to the box size as well as set them to 2x2 floor and ceiling framing. Then create a pass-through between the "rooms". You then place windows and join the units by deselecting "Frame - Has Corner Post" in the dbx. Then put a roof on it. It is time consuming but allows for full control of all dimensions while being easily shown in the window schedule. I am sure there is a better way and I'm curious to hear other's methods...

  19. Hi CreekMan, Is this what you are talking about? Select the layer than change the font size and color in the Active Layer Display Options. You can select each individual elevation number and drag it to where you like if they are in a bad spot.
  20. If there are no more than two buildings you can do the following... 1. Create the terrain, roads, etc. Then copy into two files. 2. Create house #1 in file 1, house #2 in file 2. 3. Have both files open. In file #1, use the Reference Display to show file #2. In file #2 you will need to turn off all the layers except the house itself. This is useful in many ways. It allows the structures to be created independently and keeps the file size down. But you can edit the structures "live", unlike the method of creating a symbol.
  21. Hi Jon. Renderings can be easily made without tweaking the materials too much. However there are some issues here that should be addressed before that. For instance the roof cuts through the kitchen ceiling wall and the attic wall of the circular stairs is not aligned. Also the step from kitchen to the living room is 8". Code max. in California is 7-3/4". Not to get too picky but that is also an abrupt floor level change. Is there any reason not to make that 6"?
  22. Here is one I did recently in Northern California. (No Snow Load) The steel building manufacturer said you can have X amount of windows, doors and skylights. As long as they do not interfere with any of our support beams you can place them where ever you want. I took the plan they provided and created a chief model with the steel framing in place. Then I added a 2x6 interior wall just inside the steel structure for the living area (do this by adding a 2x6 interior wall with a 2" air gap to the exterior wall). I do not recommend trying to wedge in 2x framing between the horizontal steel girts at 16" o.c. Not only is it a pain and labor intensive but having a traditionally framed wall allows for the elect, plumb, mech. to go smother, it also creates a barrier between the steel siding and the insulation. That is always a traditioned condensing point. You lose some square feet but that is a huge building. Basically find a steel building contractor that is a factory rep. They will give you plans to start from. Then go from there. Good luck.
