decorators3
Hi All I’m working on a house plan and could use some help with CAD details. I see several Roof Eave Detail options, but I’m not sure how to determine which one is the correct choice. I can easily tell which ones I don’t need, but I’m looking for guidance on selecting the right detail. I’m also wondering if there’s a standard wall section detail available, similar to the sample I’ve attached. This is my first time creating a full-scale house plan with complete CAD details, so any advice or best-practice recommendations would be greatly appreciated. A CAD detail is meant to convey to the reader how you're instructing that the subject matter is to be built. You don't "choose the correct one" unless it matches exactly how you want it constructed. Otherwise, you start with a camera view, or one of the supplied details that is close, and modify it to your specifications.

On each house I do, I cut a back clipped cross section of an exterior wall and detail it out from that view. Because footers, insulation, sheathing, studs, facade, pitch marks etc are very common on my homes, I have callouts saved in my library, plop them in and modify whatever text I need to. Little things like this and pre saved general notes really speed up designing plans. Edited December 17, 2025 by winterdd
Rookie65
Similar to Rob, I will do a section view through the whole structure. I have all of my section notes (roof, wall types, floor, foundation, etc) on a word document. Then I will copy and paste the appropriate one into a text box for the detail it applies too. I can change the wording as needed, and it makes for a very quick way to get the sections done.
Joe_Carrick
I use a similar method. But I've stored my notes as Rich Text in my user Library. They are in folders by material type.so it's easy to find what I want and locate and add an arrow to point to the object. One of those Library notes actually retrieves the Object's Label - if it's cut in section like a framing member, etc. Edited December 17, 2025 by Joe_Carrick
