Adam_Gibson Posted yesterday at 03:52 PM Share Posted yesterday at 03:52 PM (edited) Does anyone have a quick workaround for adding fill to labels? For example, I want filled beam labels so the joists that rest on the beams do not obscure the labels. I suppose I could create a text block, but that gets old pretty quickly. Seems like that should be an option for all label styles, since other items inherently have fill (cabinets, windows, etc.). DBCooper Posted yesterday at 04:12 PM Share Posted yesterday at 04:12 PM (edited) I *think* all object labels are filled or not filled based on the text style used for the label. Try turning off "transparent" for the text style to see if this gives you what you want. Framing label that has text style with "transparent" unchecked and "border" turned on: Edited yesterday at 07:34 PM by DBCooper

Adam_Gibson Posted yesterday at 06:25 PM Author Share Posted yesterday at 06:25 PM Hey Roby. I already do something like that. But it doesn't solve the fill issue.

So the text style of the Framing Labels layer needs to have transparency unchecked
Adam_Gibson Posted yesterday at 07:16 PM Author Share Posted yesterday at 07:16 PM It is unchecked. Were you able to see fill? It clearly says "when fill is available."

Yes I show fill in the screenshot. Can you screenshot your label panel of your beam and paste it here?
DBCooper Posted yesterday at 07:21 PM Share Posted yesterday at 07:21 PM Quote I wish that were true. It is true for me. See the picture I added to my post above. You should probably post a picture of what you have and what you want. Or even better, your plan.

Adam_Gibson Posted yesterday at 07:26 PM Author Share Posted yesterday at 07:26 PM (edited) The image with the filled text was done manually. The one with partially hidden text is OOB. Although I would put it next to the beam. Not on top of it. :4 Edited yesterday at 07:27 PM by Adam_Gibson
Adam_Gibson Posted yesterday at 07:33 PM Author Share Posted yesterday at 07:33 PM I understand. Seems like something that should go in Suggestions.
DBCooper Posted yesterday at 07:43 PM Share Posted yesterday at 07:43 PM Robert is correct that you can't get the beam label to display on top of the joists since the beam is under the joists. Labels always display in the same drawing level that the owner object displays. You could rotate it 90 degrees but TBH I would probably just create manual text for this case. Your picture still looks like your beam label is transparent though. Not sure how you are getting that if you unchecked "transparent" for the label text style. Adam_Gibson
It's because it is transparent. There's no other option.
PitMan71
Seems like labels should always come to the top layer. Or at least have that choice in the settings.

Adam_Gibson
I've tried. If you are able to, please let me know!
Adam_Gibson
Cabinet labels, for example, are filled. But if I put it on that layer, or a similar one, it's still transparent.
Adam_Gibson
As much as I appreciate the time and energy to help me, this is not the solution as it does not block out what's behind the text, which is my goal. But I thank you for trying!
PitMan71
Try bringing the beam to the same stack level as Joists (17).
GeneDavis
It's not doable in Chief, so I uncheck label in the beam's DB and write a label manually. For me there aren't that many beams in a floor plan, and I like to add "FLUSH" or "DROPPED" in the label.

But I thank you for trying! I feel your pain, I lightened up the line thicknesses and made the floor joist fill colour more transparent, while making the bearing beam label text dark and bold. It's not ideal but it got me closer to desired end result. I also make the beam appear 'different' from a solid item like a wall - dashed lines with white fill. Hope this helps until CA makes it change.
Adam_Gibson
Good suggestion. I've been doing Gene does, but was hoping for an in-software standard. I'll put it in Suggestions.
