PitMan71
Morning All... I am in the beginning stage of a project that has exposed rafter tails. I haven't done exposed rafter tails many times so, while I can get it done, I am no expert. In reviewing some of the videos on the subject I wanted to try a new approach. In the video I noticed that when removing the soffit on chief the program would automatically add a closure block underneath the eave to block of the attic from the elements. I have not been able to do that on this project no matter what combination of things I have tried when making adjustments in the roof planes dbx. I did create a new .plan and drew a sample house with a simple roof line and the program performed as the video show adding the blocking. So I know the concept works, at least in the sample drawing. When setting up my roof in my project, I set things up the way I previously set up for exposed tails so it is possible that I have a setting that is causing the blocks not generate that I am unaware off. In the attached project, automatic framing is on. Because of the complex roof it is manual. I would love to know what I am missing. Thanks I advance for having a look. PitMan71
Thanks Alan for having a look. Looks like what you have posted is the most common way to accomplish this. Was hoping to be able to add the closure blocking since it's the detail I used on all my drawings before Chief.

MPDesign
The blocking in Allen's picture is set to 1/16" and not checked on. Not at my computer. Maybe turning back on?
PitMan71
Correct.... But for some reason without doing any of the adjustments above in the attached drawing, the block isn't appearing even though it seems to work in a test drawing merely by removing the soffit. Thanks for responding btw.... I am all about work arounds where its necessary, but when the program just doesn't seem to be doing what its supposed it makes me think I have a setting off somewhere. DRAWZILLA
try changing the soffit material to opening -no material and make the sub fascia to whatever size you want the exposed rafters to show.
para-CAD
Are they exposed truss tails or true rafter tails?

I have found that that Chief draws the blocking for some but not all... I haven't isolated why yet.
