OrinCrowder
Trying to use lumber rafters beyond trusses for a roof over a patio. No matter what depth I make the rafters they will only show at the same depth of the top chord of the truss. In this image the rafter is a 2X10 extending from a 2X6 truss top chord. If I extend the rafter farther into the building, alongside the truss, that portion will show as a 2X10 but beyond the truss it will only show as a 2X6. Any ideas what's going on? Chopsaw
Do you actually have a roof plane in place or are you extending the rafters beyond the roof plane. Trim to soffit may be the reason you are getting 2x6. Just a guess though without seeing the plan file.

GeneDavis
Draw a roof just for the patio with its own needed framing spec.
OrinCrowder
Thanks everyone - much appreciated. Turning off trim to soffit did show the rafters as 2X10s but also added a trim cut where the rafters meet the truss top chord (image attached) - guessing that's because one roof plane can't have both truss and rafter framing method. Drawing the separate roof plane seems to be the answer.
para-CAD
Chief’s roof framing is not always as it would actually be done on site. Is such a 3D framing image a requirement for your permit office?
