DefinedDesign
Struggling with understanding how to make this 15' manual dimension show the surface stud to surface stud dimension of 15' 1". I edited the dimensions defaults but I'm certain I'm doing something incorrectly because I'm unable to make this to show 15' 1". Any wisdom on steps to correct this would be greatly appreciated. Solution KenL-sdd Posted July 11, 2023 Solution Share Posted July 11, 2023 You will need to use a section camera. The wall elevation and back clipped cross sections are going to give you to the drywall.

GeneDavis
I tried doing as Brett suggested and it is not a fix. Not just the auto X-section dimension is going DW to DW but so is a manual end to end. Wall elevation views must not include framing. But how could they, really? Chief could suppress it with layer control, but what would be the point? Wall elevations and their brother-in-arms, K&B wall elevations for cabinets, deal with wall surfaces and not structure, and it's because interiors work and cabinet work all goes from the surfaces you can bump a tape into, which is the wall finish.

Thank you this worked, not as pretty as a room cross section, but it gets me to electrical dimensions quickly for our electrician, thanks so much! Thanks Gene - this makes sense.

Some day I'll get a new laptop and I'll be able to update to the latest and greatest version of CA.

Yep this makes sense, even though (in X15 anyway) there is an option to select for "Walls-->Surfaces" or "Walls-->Wall Dimension Layer" in the dimension defaults under "Locate Auto Room". Doesn't seem to make a difference which one is selected though.

I didn't notice you were using X12 actually but what you are showing is a Dimension Default DBX , not the EDIT ACTIVE VIEW DBX ---- Icon is a pencil over a Page/camera Icon If you weren't aware Chief is now Subscription only ( since Jan. 9th ) , and it may depend on your SSA assuming you still have it ? if not Subscription is now the only available upgrade Model. The one below is the one I should have sent. We made the decision to go with the SSA before the end of last year, haven't recouped our investment yet, once we do we plan on upgrading this old laptop that only works with X12. Appreciate all your insight!
