Here in Utah we have trees native to this area that ar supossed to be used in Landscaping.  I have imported all the SSA Chief Architect libraries I could find with Trees but Can't find any that I need.

Desert Musum Palo Verde tree

Yellow Bird of Paradise shrub

Chaste Tree

Other than the laborious (and expensive) task od creating a 3d image from 2d pictures, what, if any, are my alturnatives?

Depends what if anything you are willing to pay?  if zero then you will need to spend time in Google searching "3D trees"

but there are not many places that Support Chief Architect .calibz file types, so you may need .3DS or other file types.

You can ask Chief to add the models needed , but that maybe pretty low on their priority list ?

there are also pay sites like Xfrog , which used to have Chief Files......

"You could find a PNG file and import the plants yourself.  It works much like the material importer." - I presume this would be a 2d.  I need a 3D Model

Found some stuff on the Sketup site, Other sites look interesting.  After a little research it seems that creating a 3D Model (of any kind) from a 2d image is non-trivial.

Regardless of format, there must be some applications where you can create a 3D image from 2d files.  Anyone have any leads?

As Mick mentioned Xfrog (https://www.xfrog.net/) has

3D modeling software. You might want to download

their free trial and see if it meets your needs. They

also have thousands of 3D pants available in their

libraries and collections.

Thanks Rich , I knew they did some (all) of Chiefs 3D models at one point , but did not realize they were also selling their

Software ( as well as their Libraries) , and if you need 3D plants a lot, it is pretty reasonable at $129 on sale currently

for MAC and Windows Os's, if someone wants to add that to their repertoire.

Just took a look at Blender.  Both xfrog and Blender will do the job.  Gonna look at both and see which is more intuitive to use.  I will post a review of both from a newbie perspective for others to see.

Thanks Neal...........
