alaska
Is there a simple way to convert attic space to living space (or 2nd floor)? Im trying to add a 2nd floor to a garage addition but not to the existing main house. If I "build a new floor" it will add the 2nd floor to the entire plan. lbuttery
Alaska: hi, welcome Floor A can't have rooms you have to have a 2nd floor so build a new floor and select "blank..." option then place walls as needed on floor2 for the garage only turn on the reference display and you will see the floor1 walls in red for a guide then use the align walls tool to ensure they are in sync Lew
alaska
I've attached the file to view. The problem seems to be I have a number of attic walls in the existing home as well as the garage addition. I think it might be a "start over". Smith.plan Just turn off attic walls--no need to start over.
Kbird1
I usually just draw over the Auto Attic walls where needed and it seems to work fine... , not sure that is how it's "done" so hopefully someone can enlighten us further... M.
DRAWZILLA
If you draw a wall over an attic wall it will remove the attic wall, in fact you can do this with any wall.

You need to have a second floor. You cannot have a second floor on an attic level. Let me be clearer, and I have said this on multiple occasions. To simplify building your model, always have one extra level than what is needed. I.E., if your house is one story, have two levels, if your house is a two story, have 3 levels. If your house if a 3 story, have 4 levels. I know, not required, but if you followed this dictum, you would not be having the problem you are now having. lbuttery
Scott: as you say "not required" so why add a floor "always" why not just do it when you need it for rooms etc seems "overkill" Lew

Do you think Alaska would be having the problems he is having it he had done it ?
DRAWZILLA
Scott is correct, I always have an extra floor, if not just for fireplace chimneys and more control of attic spaces.
lbuttery
Scott: nope, but also can't think of a reason to automatically do it either Alaska is having the problem because he is new and unaware that floorA can't have rooms just as he would be unaware to "always" add another floor adding an "extra" floor is counter-intuitive when the real house will only have two floors and an "attic" I have suggested many times that CA should "fix" Chief to allow rooms on floorA that would be "user-friendly"....
