TSarantopulos
I'm somewhat stumped why this isn't working. I'm trying to create shiny copper on a hood over a range. I've used "shiny copper" as the material and have even changed the material properties to be "shiny metal" for the ray trace. I just cant get it to render shiny, its just flat. Suggestions please? javatom
Sometimes you need to add a light source near something you want to highlight.
Kbird1
shiny copper from where? an image you found online ? many of CA's old Metals are not good , like their Old Stainless Steel but CA has a newer Bonus Metal Library , not sure if that'll help..... https://3dlibrary.chiefarchitect.com/index.php?r=site/detail/1007
TSarantopulos
Unfortunately, the Bonus Metal Library doesn't have Shiny Copper, just hammered, heated, ground and brushed. Why not shiny? It's used on gutters, roofs and other building elements. We need shiny!
Rich_Winsor
It would help if you gave us a screen shot of your unsatisfactory results. Here are a couple of stock items from the Library Browser with their materials set to: Core Catalogs/Materials/Metals/Copper/Polished. They look "shiny" to me.
Chrisb222
You can make anything as shiny/reflective as you want using the "Adjust Material Definition" tool. Vase with stock Polished Copper material: Same material after material adjustment:
Kbird1
I would suggest copying the Stock Copper Polished Material too your User Library , renamed it Shiny Copper and then do the material definition Change on it in the library so you will always have it to reuse and can try different looks..... What material adjustments did you make to the copper if any? What were your RT settings? I just can't get even close to that output.

I made a room from 4 interior walls and placed a table (Iron Frame Table) and vase (Sphere Vase) from the Library Browser into the room (Image-1). I changed the interior wall material from Drywall to the color Sand and changed the material of the table frame and vase to Copper Polished (Image-2). Image-3 shows the material settings for Copper Polished. Image-4 shows the Ray Trace and Image Property settings and Image 5 is the final cropped image. . With "Use Photon Mapping" checked: Everything exactly the same, except with "Use Photon Mapping" unchecked:
cv2702
@Rich_Winsor - Thanks, I had inadvertently changed the material properties. Getting back to Predefined material did the trick. @Chrissb222 - From my limited experience, I find that on darker images Photon does make a difference, but not as much on lighter images.
