Home Designer by Chief for As Builts?

I was asked by an acquaintance what software could she use to produce "As Build" plans for a builder who does remodels.

Home Designer came to mind although I have never used the product. She is starting the business and doesn't want to spend a lot at this time.

Any suggestions from those who have used Home Designer or other software?

I think it would be better to look at the rent-to-buy option of the full professional version of Chief, if lowering initial outlay is the main concern. $200/mo. She could learn the ropes on the free trial version and start renting when the first project comes in.

Both Good Options I'd say , the money spent on HD Pro is also reimbursed if you upgrade to Chief , so no real loss there.... I'd be tempted to Rent X9 for $200/mth if She thinks She can handle the Payments and the Builders are doing enough to pay for it though... and She is think of this as a long term Biz. Opportunity ...15 mths and CA is all Hers....not sure if the Rental option qualifies for Free upgrades eg if X10 comes out before the 15mths is up...but I'd assume so...but check.

get Chief Premier if you are going to be in business ....

 

if you can't afford it the options above are good ones

 

if it doesn't work out and you have a current license

it can be listed for sale here for about 20% off list price

 

Chief retains good resale value

Let her start with HD and see if that will cut it for what she needs to do before she shells out almost 3k, she can always upgrade down the road. I know a few contractors who use HD and that is more than enough for what they do.

I told her to try HD to test the waters. If all goes well then upgrade.
