Railing not showing up on Plan

Recommended Posts

I am sure this is an easy question but I am having a hard time figuring it out.  As you can see from the screen image, I have a stair that continues up to a landing and at the landing it is showing my newels.  I do not want the newels post showing at the top of the landing only at the bottom and the top of the stairs.  Is there a way to do this?  Also, I want the wall below the stairs to align with the wall above but I want it to be continuously solid to the floor above all the way to the post.  I have tried breaking the wall in a section view but that does not seem to work.  One other thing is that the railing is not showing up on the plan view and yes the railing is on in the plan view.  What am I missing?

To remove the railing on the landing - click on the edge of the landing that is the problem - open object and click on "no railing on selected edge"

For no newels at the top set all newels to "0" then add them manually wherever you want.

CJ  If you would like to eliminate the Newel post in the center of the stairs, just increase your Newel spacing until it disappears.  It looks like you are using X9 ?

Thanks Chopsaw, looks like I got the newels taken care of it is just a matter of making that wall go all the way to the ceiling and covering up the post and eliminating the rail from the post on back.

Also the main topic is that the tailing is not showing up on my plan view.  I have the stairs, rails and ramps layer on but somehow the railing on the plan does not show up.

If I am understanding correctly you will want to turn off the auto railing from the stair DBX and draw a short manual rail up to that structural post.  Then you will have to mess with the wall position until it fills in.  I think there is a video on how to wrap the stairs around a wall like that.  I will look for you.

This should allow you to keep the auto rail if you can position the wall correctly. :)

Have you set up your Railing Plan Display in the Newels/Balusters tab of the Staircase Specification DBX ?

I've looked at the Stair DBX 100 times and I don't know how I missed that.  Thanks again.

Thank you all for your help in answering my questions.  I have finally made the change that AI was looking for and with some help from http://davidmichaeldesigns.com/ and his never ending list of videos on YouTube.  This one for example was what I was trying to do in the beginning and knew I had seen it somewhere.  Here is his video

Very nice CJ,  And also a railing wall cap to go with.  Great video by DSH in X3 and still a great one.  We all keep learning workarounds. Maybe some day Chief will learn what we need.

Thanks, Chop

      Hey All,

My company is in the process of making the switch from Autodesk Revit to Chief Arch (Version X12) and I have been spending my time trying to create a lot of commonly used design elements we use on our plans but I have run into a hiccup. I'm trying to create a small, inset-type staircase (attached image is what I've done in Revit in the past) that is typically used on our plans to go from grade-level sidewalk to the main floor elevation. In my attempts, stairs either fail to recognize the elements around them or if I create them like I would in Revit in creates this garbled configuration where the stairs are their own room and the footprint of the stairs themselves cut a hole through the roof.

Checking Forums, YouTube, and the Chief site have all yielded nothing and I in my limited knowledge cannot figure it out. What am I missing?

A bit of an issue. I have two staircases. One from the basement to the first floor. Directly above are the other stairs which go from the first to the second floor. When I run "Auto Stairwell" on the basement stairs, the other stairs drop to the basement. I have never had this issue in any other versions. Why? (See attached screen shoot). Running CA12 on Win10Pro.

      Thanks in advance.

I'm making an electrical plan and trying to figure out how to add my electrical line to my light fixture over the stairs - shown on the main floor. So I have a 2 way switch at the bottom and top of the stairs.

I was messing around with my template wanting to get some more things in place for my stairs and defaults. I ran into this before and just moved on, but now I am drawing homes using Chief and need to find a way to angle or follow the stairs with a halfwall. Thank you

      1) Finished floor for this existing building is 36". The driveway in back is level with finish floor also. I cannot get the landscape all around to fill in under building and driveway. The drive slopes up to flat across as much as I have flat. The exist. H.C. ramp goes into a concrete porch. This is as-built plan and then I will design a restaurant on the first floor.
      2) I cannot get u shaped stairs to work and land on the 2nd floor by the entry door.

I would appreciate any help in accomplishing what i need to do.

      Thanks,
