placing a text block over the dimension text is the only way. If you want to keep the number and add text before or after you can do this in the dim DBX.

Uncheck the default dimension properties,  change the text size for the dimension to .0003", now put your own text block over.....  this eliminates the need for a FILLED text block.

an over-ride has been asked for many times

 

it would be nice to  have - especially for as-builts

 

not everything comes out as "expected"/measured....

 

it would also be nice to be able to add a second dim

there are times when the chief model would have a dim based on all the other dims

then I would have to add - "but I measured it as ..." and would give it red text

 

this would let me know that there was a discrepancy

 

if it was big enough or I had a few of them I might even do a second site visit for verification'

 

if it was "minor" I would live with it

especially if it was not in the project area or critical to the project

 

yes, all of this can be done with text boxes - but having it part of the dim string

just looks better
