Adding shed roof to new addition to house
Chrisb222 replied to CJordanDesign's topic in General Q & A
It will auto build with the correct settings. This is with the side walls made Gable roof, the long wall made Hip, and the long wall roof directive at 2/12, as mentioned above. Also had to correct an out-of-alignment issue on the right wall: -
I have found that as well. Thanks for satisfying my curiosity.
-
I'm curious, since you're this far along, how / why such a fundamental issue as joist depth is just now cropping up?
-
Convert to polyline first, in the Edit toolbar.

Be aware the Chief videos were produced over several versions, and may be older or newer than X13. They do not remake every video with every release, and they also stopped showing the version being used in the video a few years ago. So some features are going to be different, or non-existent in your version. The basics are mostly the same, though. Also use the built-in Help files included with the software, which will (almost always) be current to your version.

What would cause me to repeatedly lose all deck framing?
Chrisb222 replied to GeneDavis's topic in General Q & A
Like Ryan, I do not lose deck framing. Even when I don't check "retain manual framing." If I change the deck, of course I have to also change the manual framing, but it never disappears. Maybe a PC thing... Lol. Downvoters gonna downvote! I gave you a nice greenie to offset. -
Temporary Dimensions Please Fix/Improve in X15
Chrisb222 replied to Archnot-Boltz's topic in General Q & A
Because it would limit the options for using temp dims to only those fixed settings. Temp dims follow the settings in the currently active Dimension Default, and therefore I can quickly switch which dim default I'm using (usually just temporarily) to get a different set of settings for the temp dims to follow. It's very flexible. For example, say I'm designing using dimensions restricted to 1/2" increments, but I want to check out a measurement more accurately using temp dims. I switch to my 1/32" dimension default, which I can quickly access using the Active Dimension Defaults Control dropdown on my toolbar, and all temp dimensions now measure to 1/32". Then I switch back to my normal 1/2" dim default. They also adopt a lot of the locate and other settings, which would probably solve your issue in the OP. Hope this helps. -
2D CAD blocks and 3D symbols don't always sync. Just ran into that with a ceiling fan.

Nice! Was just trying to delete some rascally renegade materials yesterday. Great idea! (I was tempted to give you a reddie for that, I know how much you like em... but you get a blue heart instead )

Man you're getting reddied like they're going outta style! -

Haha, you got downvoted for that. THAT'LL TEACH YA!! Now hit me with your best shot, you red-downarrow-slingin' devil, whoever you are!! Lol (Or get a life... maybe?) -
I looked at your plan. If this stuff is happening on every plan, then I assume the problems are in your template plan. Nothing like this should be happening on every plan. There are a lot of issues. If my guess is right, then you might be better off to rebuild a new template from a stock one, and start over. There are a lot of issues with this plan.

Are you using Shift to select only the top tread segment? Just selecting will apply changes to all segments, but you can restrict settings to one section by shift-selecting.

Lol. I knew exactly what you were talking about, and agree 100% (pun intended). Yep. How hard can it be to give us an "Actual Size" zoom option?? Then Print Preview would be complete, and useable to evaluate how printed text will look at - heaven forbid - ACTUAL SIZE. Plain old piddly PDF viewer/editor in MacOS:

I have had sporadic slowness with the 25.2.0.53 release, slows to a crawl for no apparent reason. But only once in a great while, and reboot (or lockup) returns to normal fast speed. I've also been having trouble with random lockups when working with a split window and standard render open, never happened before even with earlier CX15 releases.

I just saw things that looked odd to me, in the porch room and in the railing wall definitions. It doesn't mean they're wrong, it all depends on what you want the end result to be. There are a lot of ways to accomplish whatever you need to do but it varies from job to job. What I did was fix the flooring issue, but that wasn't necessarily the correct fix, depending on the other goals within the model. There are lots of other ways to fix the flooring if this way screwed up something else you need to show. Only you would know that.
-
There are a lot of weird things going on with your room definitions. It's easy to fix, and can be done several different ways, but it depends on how you want everything defined. For this, I unchecked Foundation Wall on the railing wall's General panel, changed the porch room to Unspecified, and reset it to use default Floor Finish and Structure. Other methods can be used to produce different results within the model. Addition-2.plan

I don't know how much faster a bigger SSD could make in my situation since like I said, your file flies. But again, that's on an M1 Max, not an M2...
-
Yeah, @Michael_Gia apparently I was wrong about this, sorry. I assumed the base M2 would exceed all the M1s but I guess not.
-
Hmm interesting conundrum, I would be on the fence too since I don't need RTRT much. Keep in mind I tested on an M1 Max. You said you're looking at an M2 Mini. I love the minis but the base M2 is not as powerful as the M1 Max, see this article: https://www.trustedreviews.com/versus/apple-m2-vs-apple-m1-max-4240029 This also leads me to think the base M3 probably won't be as strong as the M1 Max. There is an M2 Max but it doesn't appear to be offered in a Mini. I think the Mini's case is too small for a Max board...? They do offer a Mini M2 Pro, but the M2 Pro is still not as fast as the M1 Max, and you have to go Pro to get the 32GB ram that comes standard on a Studio: https://www.apple.com/shop/buy-mac/mac-mini https://www.apple.com/shop/buy-mac/mac-studio By the time you go Mini M2 Pro with 32GB, you're nearing the price of the base M1 Max Studio, with 32GB and a much faster processor.

Another option in X12 is to create a new CMU wall type. Here I just copied the standard 7-5/8" wall and added a 0-thickness air gap layer. Then break the CMU wall at the intersection, and make one side of it the new wall type and they won't rejoin. That could potentially complicate your material list, and you still need to add the CAD lines:
-
Michael, my 2022 Studio M1 Max 32GB 500GB SSD handled the file just fine. Opening various DBXs in plan is nearly instantaneous, no real perceptible lag. Panning in plan is instant. Standard render opened in 5 sec and pans instantly. This is on two 24" monitors. I would think an M2 Mini would do just as well or better (better than instant?? ) Let me know if you want a specific test performed.

You can designate a wall as a Bearing Wall and joists will break over it. Structure Tab is #2: Or you can draw in a Floor/Ceiling Beam or a Bearing Line with same result: Rebuild framing afterwards.

What!? I didn't even address your post directly. The OP said; Then, to help a novice understand, I simply said; Now you seem to be agreeing with what I said, but also taking issue with it? I'm confused... -

Of course. That's what I said.
