  1. I'm already using the new perspective control in conjunction with the perspective crop tool. Funny, now that I'm getting the hang of it, it's easier than ever before! And has solved some of the issues I used to have with getting the view "just right" in X7. Thanks again.
  2. Haha, funny how we see different tools as having different levels of usability. The first time I used the input survey data, I jumped for joy. Yeah, I've had to start over before, but for me it's a great tool. Interesting discussion, no right or wrong answer.
  3. Oh my gosh, IT WORKS, thank you so much. I can't tell how much aggravation this has been causing. Yes, I'm sure I'll learn to like the new method eventually, since now I know how to do both. Thanks again!!
  4. Hi, I'm used to X7 and just started using X9. I am used to the way the 3D "Perspective Full Overview" camera worked in X7, but it's different in X9. The main difference I'm experiencing is that when I want to zoom in or out using the scroll wheel on my mouse, the perspective changes and the camera in plan view actually moves closer or farther away from the object I'm viewing. In X7, the view would remain static and simply get bigger or smaller, the perspective never changed, and the camera location in plan view never changed. This is aggravating because when I get the perspective I want, but too much background, and zoom in, the perspective changes. I've searched everywhere for a setting to change this, searched the forum too, but no luck. Any ideas to get this working like it did in X7? Thanks... EDIT: Also, panning the camera in X7 with the grabber hand (Command key on Mac) would just slide the view left or right, no perspective change. Now, it rotates the view and throws off my perspective angle. GRR EDIT: Even the "Zoom In" and "Zoom Out" buttons change the camera location/perspective. GRRRR EDIT: Okay, it appears the zoom in and zoom out buttons might work. They're moving the camera, but not changing the perspective.....?
  5. For anyone else who finds this thread with a similar problem, I for one LOVE the input method. Works like a charm, and is extremely useful if used correctly. Yes, use "Chord Length" and their bearings (direction) for entering arcs. Then if you want, you can change the straight line to an arc and approximate the shape. There is a way to input arc data but I haven't been able to get it to work. A problem I think some people have is not understanding the direction of the bearing angle. The CA input method expects you to go around the lot in one direction, either clockwise or counterclockwise. In the picture above in Post # 1, the surveyor has plotted the bearings going in both directions, so when inputting the data you must convert some of the lines to the other direction, or the resulting drawing will be wrong. This is easily done by exchanging the North/South directions in the bearing angle. For instance, Line #1 is indicated as going "Toward North, To The West": 1. 328.66' (N 32 06 29 W) To reverse this line, simply change its direction 180° this way: 1. 328.66' (S 32 06 29 E)
  6. Hi, after resigning myself to never being able in X9 to use the font I was using extensively with X7, I decided to install another font to use instead. However I'm now unable to get CA to recognize ANY user-installed font on my Mac. (I had to upgrade my OS to High Sierra to use X9, not sure if that had any effect.) User-installed fonts are working fine with other Mac apps... Ugh. Being stuck with the handful of fonts that X9 recognizes is no fun. I was just wondering if anyone else has succeeded in using a non-native font in CA... thanks
  7. Why, yes I was. I see now it was always available, but what the video showed was that it now has the ability to add a label with macros for sq ft etc. Thanks Curt!
  8. Hi, I just upgraded to X9 Premier and while watching some of the sales videos I came across a new feature where you can extract a line drawing of the perimeter of a room, and assign a label to it with the room name and square footage. I could make great use of this feature for sending orders to my flooring contractor, but I didn't memorize the technique, as it was before I decided to upgrade, and now I can't find it among all the "new features" videos. Anyone know how to do this? Thanks
  9. Thank you, and thanks for your efforts to help me.
  10. Yes, I submitted it to tech and hopefully they can recreate my problem, that is, having it work correctly in X7 but not in X9. Thanks again.
  11. Tried that, thanks. You're right, in X9 it does not look condensed, it IS stretched out, and spaced out too. See my two screenshots above for how it's supposed to look. Yes I can change fonts but all of my defaults, and all text using this font in legacy plans would have to be manually changed. If the font doesn't work right for you either it must be X9, as the font works correctly on my system in X7 and all other apps... Thanks again.
  12. Yes, it is in the list, and looks messed up just like it does in the text DBX. Thx
  13. Hmm, yes, I already tried uninstalling/reinstalling the font, and it still works fine in all other apps.... Thank you.
  14. Hmm, I downloaded it from here and it unzipped into the same font I have on my Mac. I don't know how fonts work on your PC... Again, the font still works fine in X7 and all other apps. It only goes screwy in X9. Thanks for your help.
  15. Thanks for the reply. This seems to be the default substitute font, as one other user font is also defaulting to that style in CA, and it's not a sans-serif simple font, it's a display font (I was a graphic designer for 20 years and well versed in Mac fonts). The font works fine in all other programs. Thanks again for your thoughts.
  16. Thanks, good ideas. Here is a screen shot of a floor plan in X7 that shows the font displayed correctly: I like the font because it's very narrow. When dimensioning tight spaces, it will fit better between the dimension extension lines, as you can see in the 6" wall thickness dimension. Here is the same plan in X9, the text has defaulted to another font and is all messed up, it even caused my window callouts to enlarge: I'm sure I can find another font to replace it with the same effect but it would mean changing everything in every plan. I use this font for 90% of the text in a plan. Here is the font: Arial MT Cn LtArial MT Cn Lt I'm running CA on MacOS High Sierra. Thanks for any insight...
  17. Just tried uninstalling the font, rebooting, and reinstalling, rebooting. -It still shows correctly in X7, incorrectly in X9 -All other user-installed fonts work in both programs As a side note, Command-Q does not work for "quit" in X9 like it did in X7 (and all other Mac apps), even though the menu in X9 indicates "Command-Q" as the shortcut for Quit. ???
  18. Just upgraded to X9 from X7, also had to upgrade my MacOS so I could run X9. I use a non-CA font extensively, and have since I started using CA, but X9 is not displaying the font correctly. I thought I might need to do a reboot to get it to recognize it correctly but that didn't help. It isn't saying the font is missing, I've had that before when switching machines, it displays text when I open a file, it just doesn't look right. I open the text DBX and it says the correct font name, but the text preview isn't right either. I checked and the font still displays correctly in X7 and all other Mac apps. When I go into any text DBX in X7, or any other app, I can select the font and it looks normal. When I go into any text DBX in X9, I can select the font but it is not right. Puzzled. Any ideas? I will have to drastically change almost all of my text defaults if I can't get this font back in line. Thanks.
  19. Excellent, thank you both. I need to think more creatively, ha!
  20. Ah, yes I was able to do what you did. But I don't see the option to convert a straight line segment into a curve. How would you achieve a barrel, or arch effect? Thanks Eric!
  21. Wow, didn't know about that. Thank you! Worked perfectly. A better way to create a vaulted or barrel effect on the bottom of a gable end wall over a railing, as shown in the pic above with vaulted deck ceiling. I usually do it with a window in the gable attic wall, with no frame, sash, or casing. That's how I did that one, but it's lacking in accomplishing exactly what I'm after... for instance, I would like to have a non-linear beam that follows the angle of the vault or the barrel arch, but I usually resort to soffits for that. I attached a pic of a barrel porch ceiling I did where the arched bottom of the gable is a window, and the white arched "beam" is a soffit. Also good to know, thanks!
  22. Hi, often the houses I build have frieze in only the front gables; not in the eaves or the rear or side gables. When I apply frieze to "gables only" it applies to all gables, which is fine because I can then select roof planes in the rear and delete the frieze on them using the Roof Plane Spec DBX. However, occasionally one roof plane will have a gable in the front and also in the back, and so far I haven't found a way to delete the frieze from only the rear gable on such a roof plane. I have tried various ways to separate the front gable from the rear gable by temporarily moving a wall to break the roof plane, but when I restore the roof I end up back where I started, and so far nothing has worked. See attached pic. Also in the attached pic, I have a scissor-truss vaulted ceiling in the rear deck. I sometimes need a vaulted or barrel porch roof, and usually use a window in the gable (attic) wall with no frame, sash, or casing, which is a decent workaround, but I wonder if anyone knows a better way... Chief X7 on Mac. Thank you.
  23. Thank you for the suggestion. But you lost me at "then just add a space." I understand everything up until that, but I'm not sure what that means...
