https://www.designevolutions.com/house-plans-questions/does-my-state-require-house-plans-to-be-stamped-by-a-licensed-architect/ this site gives a state by state list of residential design requirements for architectural stamped drawings. Apparently, New York State is a "prick" in regards to residential design! (sucks to be Lew. -hey Lew!). In PA you don't need a license for single and two family dwellings not more than 3-stories in hgt plus accessory structures and farm utility structures. We need a professional's stamp on most commercial and apartments etc. I have an engineer (PE) stamp my drawings when necessary which includes any residential details(structrural, electrical or mechanical) that don't fall under the prescriptive code language in the IRC 2015.

Forgot attachment.

My Snap Grid is set at 1" by Default- see attached DBX image. As you can see, it's also Turned Off and maybe mine is snapping to something different?

Otherwise, sounds like something you would be able to do. Good luck. -Brad

+1, +1.

Dudes, thanks for that valuable tidbit! Very cool. I've been using framing member lengths for a quick rake dimension. -bB

Look up Malcolm Wells, he wrote book called Underground Designs circa 1981. He was a famous proponent of Underground Architecture. What you refused to build was pretty much just a bermed foundation or walk-out basement without the house. I would have suggested designing a one or two bedroom ranch layout and put attic floor trusses for the future upper floor with some strategic dormer(s) or egress skylights. Plenty of wall in the gable ends for windows and if oriented properly could have created a passive solar design. You can't fault a person for wanting an inexpensive upfront solution for their living situation.-bb

Stairwell into basement with furred walls causing problems
Archnot-Boltz replied to Bakerzzz's topic in General Q & A
You will have to do just what you would do in the real world- allow for the different wall thickness of the foundation. Chief won't automatically do that for you. BB -
The problem with floors is you can't re-frame just one section (unless you re-draw each floor member of that section manually). Chief only allows you to re-frame the entire floor which screws up any customizing that you've done with the framing layout. Makes additions and remodels more difficult. bB

Hey Chief, thanks for restoring the lost hatch patterns. You have Hatch, Vertical and Hatch (no designation) is for horizontal hatch which is easy enough to remember would be better if labeled Hatch, Horizontal. No big. bB

Hotkeys--I like my hotkeys, they work off first letters.

You guys give me a brain ache! Memory's too short for short cuts. BB -
If Chief and Softplan got drunk one night and had a baby....................

I don't understand that. I thought the Beta had an expiration date when the final version comes online? BB

Better and more accurate modeling, a CAD Detail from View Tool that is actually a CAD Detail From View, not the entire Model. Ability to Model and Frame my Deck Stairs, Railings etc. instead of Faking all that with CAD. etc. BB

Now we can restart our list for x12 to fix the small stuff that means the most for Con Docs and Correct Modeling, Dimensions, Stairs, Framing yadda... but will focus on things I need to learn for now.

I'm hoping that, that is the case and will ask no more questions until I get my box. bB

but: Stair Design and Detailing 1) Does Chief now show Framing for Deck Stairs? 2) Can I Design and Determine Accurate Placing of Deck Railings? Roof Framing 1) If I Raise a Roof Plane after having Manually Adjusted the Framing Members to my determined Layout, Is there a "Rebuild Framing for Individual Roof Planes Without Changing Layout" Tool/Button that will Keep the Layout while Changing Only the a) Vertical Orientation of the Rafters or Trusses? My list of questions will change/increase after I download and start using the Beta. Perhaps Antoine will do the same or similar as I noted that none of the x11 changes (according to him) related to any of his requests or suggestions. Until then, I will be mute on the subject and focus on understanding and using the new features.

...and there's the "Secret Handshake" that I had once found and then forgot. Thanks for the Refresher. BB

Brilliant video Larry. Thanks for that simple demo.-BB

For me, it's a crap shoot. Sometimes I win and sometimes I say "Fuggetaboudit!" I used to avoid the terrain tool entirely and uses Flat, Graduated Slabs (make the material grass) similar to the Old Cardboard Topo models we made in Architecture School. I have had some luck reading and re-reading the tutorial and going online and occasionally finding things from ChiefTalk but still haven't found the Magic Handshake for the Terrain Logic.

simply send your Framing Annotation Plan View to Layout. And like Shane said, you can send with selected layers turned off or on.

I cannot sketch this in CA for some reason
Archnot-Boltz replied to rockyshepheard's topic in General Q & A
Add your two diagonal dimensions and divide by two and you will end up with 32's.
