when you select an object another toolbar should appear click on the "open object" icon or you can double left click on an object and it enter the appropriate dbx or right click on an object an select "open object" or use ctrl+E Lew

suppress all casings and sills. HD Suite certainly has doorways ? Larry: doorways yes suppress casings and sills - maybe not ??? if so, that may be a solution all of the HD products - except PRO - have no manual tools everything is done via the dbx's and many times they are limited going to the Hometalk forum is probably the best Lew
-
I agree with Graeme, only HD PRO users can benefit from following the Chieftalk forum the rest of the HD product line is too limited you could try placing a soffit and the ceiling level and then sizing as needed it will not have wall properties Lew

Hmmm, 99 is way too much and impossible to keep track of and it will bog down your plan immensely probably to the point it will be difficult to make the next change 10 is probably the largest useful setting I have mine set to 5 as I do "save as" quite frequently Lew

the primary focus of the forum is users helping users CA has stated that they don't read all of the threads on this forum the only sure way to notify them of issues/bugs etc is post in the Suggestions section of the forum or file a support ticket or call them its best to file a support ticket and include your plan that shows the issue if tech support doesn't have a solution then the issue is added to the "database" which has over 4000+ issues from there it is a matter of setting priorities as to when the issue MIGHT be addressed some issues have been around for years, some for a decade some are dealt with in an update or the next release since X7 beta has already started and anticipated for release early 2015 it is unlikely to be added to X7 unless it is "simple" or "critical" there will also most likely be no more updates to X6 Lew

We rarely put Chief plans into Planswift, but often import images/pdf's into Chief (if they can be scaled) Hmmm, from the CADEST and Planswift videos that I watched the process was to create floorplans and elevations in Chief then import them into CADEST or Planswift and do the estimates and take-offs there bottom line is that Chief can't do it alone Lew

How Do You Place The Ca User's Criteria Under The Suggestion Dotted Line

Antoine: Hmmm, I have no idea what you are asking ??? can you post a pic or link or ??? Lew -
Chief won't allow for island rooms in the older versions it would create an invisible wall to connect the island to the rest of the model ver X6 uses the new room divider wall Lew

probably best to contact CA's tech support but they may not be open on Friday ??? Lew -
Glenn: it was also a "NEW" wall type before X6 Lew

foundations are not my forte but I'll take a guess and suggest using a pony wall Lew

Bob: try the free Texture Studio I understand it can help make them seamless Lew

if you change the structure one side of the room that has a room divider, then that room divider gets the same definition on the old invisible wall which is actually an interior 4 wall invisible Tommy: thanks for the clarification - I wasn't aware of this "transformation" not sure I like it ??? Lew
-
Glenn: It appears my study of the new "room divider" feature back in Dec during Beta was hasty possibly because I was whipping thru all the new features and creating the 'GOOD-BAD-UGLY" thread and was moving too fast I could swear that I found some of the dbx's for walls that had both "room divider" and "invisible" ??? maybe CA removed "invisible" as a wall type from some of the DBX's before X6 went live ??? anyways, the room divider wall type replaced the invisible wall type in X6 and "invisible" became a property that can be assigned to any wall type - including room dividers this is done on the wall spec. dbx on the general tab thus, all of the dbx's that list wall types only list room divider - invisible is a property of walls - not a type (anymore) the layer display options dbx lists "walls, invisible" but not "room divider" which also caused "confusion" in my hasty study back in Dec closer study of the LDO layers for walls shows that most of the layers are divided by properties of a wall such as "invisible" or "attic" or "no locate" two of the wall layers are for wall types: "walls normal" and "walls foundation" seeing "invisible" there and not "room divider" didn't make sense in Dec - now it does Room Dividers are invisible by default Room Dividers are placed on the “Walls, Invisible” layer by default A wall placed on a non-default layer and then specified as Invisible, however, will not move to the “Walls, Invisible” layer this I still find confusing ??? if the invisible property is set then it should be on the "walls, Invisible" layer Lew
-
Glenn: I first reported the inconsistencies during the public beta for X6 (see BAD section #07) http://www.chieftalk.com/showthread.php?65281-X6-Good-Bad-Ugly-and-Suggestions&highlight=ROOM+DIVIDER DBX attachments coming soon Lew
-
Glenn: sorry, not rubbish at all look at all the dbx's and see the confusion each and every dbx should have both types listed Lew
-
invisible walls are also available but CA has decided to add confusion and some of the dbx's have room divider only others have invisible walls only and others have both what a PITA Lew
-
contact CA's tech support best place to get a solution plus they need to know if there is an issue Lew

I would like to see as many standards as possible calculated and placed in a schedule then we the users can choose we standard we need on a project basis Lew

I can complete that entire requested project using Chief alone....could Sketchup do that? Joey: don't know, never used Sketchup Chief has been my only app I bought Sketchup thinking I might learn it and that my partner would use it - but he never took the time I have seen videos where condocs are created using Sketchup with their Layout tool I don't see how Sketchup can be inter-operable, especially bi-directional, with so many other BIM apps if it isn't parametric I will study on this question My guess would be that it has to be parametric.... I think Chief is as much BIM as 98% of it's users want and/or need for residential chiefers - yes for those who want to do more - no If CA wants Chief to stay at the low-end of the market that is their decision But I will keep pushing for them to expand their horizons Perhaps Chief needs to go back to having a 10 floor limit (maybe 3 or 4) I think 3 or 4 floors is the defining break point between IRC and IBC codes I see others watching TV in color/HD and simply wonder why CA is satisfied with B/W Being retired Chief is almost over-kill for my current modeling needs for my historical preservation projects so my banging the drum for AEC BIM is just me "farting in the wind" no one can really hear me but it feels good to let it out anyways for almost a decade CA has stated "not interested" but I'll keep on anyways Rod wanted some feedback from the users and from CA I think he got some answers - but not what he wanted to hear Lew
-
BIM has such a broad and varied definition that you can pretty much say that everything that we do is BIM Doug: So once again, CA is confirming that it has little interest in joining the "mainstream" crowd in using BIM inter-operability Chief's BIM is like watching tv on a B/W set CA doesn't even realize they are missing color and HD etc sorry to hear that is satisfactory ....
