  1. haven't you heard, AI will make you breakfast and put the dishes in the dishwasher. and soon every company will have an AI line of enhanced products ... that aren't really AI. It is good at generating content, not so good (yet) at interpreting multiple types of technical data. Ask Chat GPT what is the maximum size of cantilever I can have on my side property line at "your address here" It gives garbage for my address, but ironically it must know that it is because it tells you to consult the "authority"
  2. I just left the slab thinking he had it there for a reason. I did that because he has a window above the door which made me think it was two storeys on the inside, although when I look a little closer, it is probably part of the door. anyway if it is a window and if it was to be placed on the second floor, I wanted him to avoid this possible problem in the future: but his eaves are at the main floor level, so yes, 1 storey room is the solution
  3. a couple things to do: 1. Align all of your 1st storey walls to the wall below using the litlle icon with the down arrow (once the walls are close). use the reference display to check. repeat for second storey 2. Click on the walls, go to the structure tab and click default wall top height this fixes up a lot. I created a room on the second storey for the front entry with open to below and walls set to invisible with short room height I have to go, but here is where it is at but i am on X15 and you are not, so I cannot post the file
  4. yup, just sent it in this morning
  5. to answer this question, I charge a surcharge for non flat lots. Fiddling with the terrain and the stepped foundation takes time, especially if the customer doesnt like the terrain, or you have to put in a wingwall because its not actually sloped that much. and then if they change the footprint you get to do it all again. Non flat=headache
  6. this would be nice, I do a lot of wall tracing. Albeit I would not consider it AI as I don't see it going to a database of the world to do it in a better way tomorrow when the database changes. I perceive this a purely a software feature that could be built in CA. For instance, it could highlight what it thinks are walls and then lets you select more or less, then a button to create them.
  7. If I had a partnership with another company I would have no issues giving out the file. That being said, if CA could export an encoded CA file, and then the viewer decoded it into memory, that would also work. The problem with the cloud is it would have to RTRT every time the camera moved around, and CA would need to purchase HW to support that
  8. ditto rob, but if they want to play around with a RTRT model, they will need the viewer. You cannot export it to CA's cloud. I dont give customers the nice flowers and trees that Rob does, but his are much prettier
  9. normally I would put in a room below the cant (then set walls to invisible) in this case there is an empty space so not sure. you could do that plus add a ceiling plane at no pitch (to prevent the invisible wall from going straight up to the platform as its room height matches the one on the left), then extend the roof under. but the cant wall wants to build down to match. I tried pulling the wall up, but the rim joist always shows. someone probably has a better idea
  10. right click in the clear area above one of the other tabs. a window should popup , and then you can select it
  11. If you do not already you might want to also give them the CA viewer, and create RTRT cameras. I do rtrt camera all the time now, and once you learn the 4 or 5 settings to change, they make a world of aesthetic difference. Just know that if you do give them the CA viewer, you also have to give them the plan to view, and they could take that plan and use it for themselves
  12. I will quote every job depending on the complexity. As you have the plans this might take as little as 4 hours to recreate for a simple box which has no porch deck or ext detailing. I will typically estimate what I think it will take and double it. That is the fixed price. But again it is in the details. If they want 3d camera shots that takes time.
  13. Running a virtual machine might be an option
  14. to me it is all about the detail. if they want to change/select colours, furniture, add wall paintings, blinds, choose floor colours, cabinet type, where there are drawers, etc... that is where the time is spent although in your case the roof planes might take some time too
  15. in case anyone is wondering why the little room is there. ..below is a 8" concrete foundation, so the wall had to be offset
  16. that worked! thanks. ...Although I think CA should be smart enough not to build framing outside of exterior walls...
  17. I have a cantilever, but when CA frames it. the Floor truss inside the cantilever extends beyond the cantilever wall, and thus ends up partially off the edge of the outside of the foundation wall It is highlighted in blue 694 Muirfield Cr - fe (4).zip other than deleting it and then causing auto to run off, any other way?
  18. the doc indicates: When Same Height Eaves is checked, any non-default overhang values specified in the Wall Specification dialog are used. Roof planes are raised or lowered so that the eave height is the same, regardless of the horizontal overhang. it worked, thanks you but not sure why. This is a 4; tall cantilever. if the "eave height" is to the distance from zero to bottom of eave, then by CA adding an extra 2' to the roof didnt actually make it same height to anything. i.e what eave is it matching to I suppose if "Eave height" means the distance from top plate to the bottom of the eave (or more likely the bottom of the fascia board), then it should change with the pitch. so i changed to a 4:12 and sure enough the eave is now 3' instead of 2' I would think though this setting should be on the wall and not global? otherwise if i have different pitched roofs on my top floor and I have this cantilever, it will not work for both
  19. p2p seems to drop CAD markers Anyone know why? 21.07.2023_19.48.29_REC.mp4
  20. and it looks like you DWG is rotated. If so, select all the DWG line and rotate using the transform replicate button. so that the majority of walls are 0 or 90 degrees Then dimension between two different (as long as possible) walls, which have a known dimension. If the CA dimension matches the DWG dimension all is good, if not use the Transform and replicate to scale until they do
  21. I do lots of recreation from plans, and I can say the move to notes on plans from the old text everywhere probably adds 20% more time to figure things out. The worst is companies that have note schedules with notes that arent actually on the plan
  22. yes but I think you need to "know" what is the first detail in the layout, and the second detail... For instance, your BWP WSW actual detail is on the left in your layout and it is labelled 3. I presume, by looking at the layout one thinks, "this should be number 1 not 3, so I will go to the schedule and set it to 1". And then you go to the schedule and move it. or is it a different workflow?
  23. if the home is built after 1985 here the homeowner can order the plans from the city for $60. I tell them that is best and cheapest way as my stuff is either basements or additions. additions require full elevations by the city here. its easier to recreate in CA than try and measure. If I need something, I will ask the homeowner to take pictures
  24. thanks , that little arrow on the arc is the trick. and to rene and ryan, thanks...not sure how I missed that...late night ...
