  1. Obviously, but do you still get a top rail, a bottom rail and newels? Can you hold the bottom of the rail up 4"? Come on guys, Gavin Dennis Gavin wants a glass rail with newels and rails going over the end newel. If he can do it, please post a plan showing how he should go about it. If he can't do it, let's stop wasting time and explain a possible work around. I do not think he can do what he wants without the workaround.
  2. To review, a glass railing with rail over newel.
  3. I believe he wants a glass railing, your solution precludes him from using a glass railing.
  4. The brick should not be load bearing. I do not think we could do that in our neck of the woods.
  5. Michael, you deleted your post, you had a relevant post. I did experience the wall reverting to 4-1/2"thick phenomena when I was working on the DECK PLAN that someone was having issues with. It's not common, and I cannot explain why it happens, but I have seen the wall revert back to the 4-1/2" thickness. Anyway, i think you and I are on the same page, the OP should create his own 1/16" thick wall.
  6. Very annoying. I would suggest you create A NEW WALL THAT IS 1/16" thick, one layer thick, material being OPENING NO MATERIAL, this will be your new "ROOM DIVIDER", I think you will find this works pretty good. Put it on it's own layer, turn the layer on, give the layer a thicker line weight, and this will then also serve as your room definer in plan view. I get it, the wall you are trying to use defaults to 4-1/2" thick, very annoying..... create a new wall type.
  7. There is some merit to what Michael is saying.
  8. I do not think Eric did a good job of helping you (he is usually great when it comes to solutions). This is relatively complicated if the section cut is important to you. The Great GW may put in his 2 cents. I have not tried this, so I could be totally off base. At the very least, it seems like you must build a PONY WALL to get the two thickness of concrete wall. The difficult part would be the additional concrete on the outside of wall to support the brick veneer. It seems like you would also need to be very particular in defining your wall definition including locating BUILD PLATFORM TO THIS EDGE definition. Sorry, not a lot of help, but maybe someone will take the time to figure this out for you. Maybe Eric will take another stab at it..... I bet if he spent a little time with it, he might come up with the solution for you.
  9. I have never had this problem. If you close the view (which you have not saved), doesn't the camera go away? I am not sure what the problem is. Do you really have more than a couple of camera views open at one time? I do not think this is good practice to have more than a couple of camera views open because the more cameras you have open, the slower the program.'
  10. Hi guys, thanks for your support on this issue. CA rarely listens to one voice, but with all of your help, I am sure they will now listen. I live in SOCAL, and we do a lot of Spanish and Mediterranean houses that sometimes have arches meeting in a corner with a wood column supporting the columns and I have had a difficult time modeling this. We can build this out of solids or psolids or maybe cabinets or soffits maybe or slabs, but I have been told the best way to model this would be to model as it is built, thus, I would like to build these arches out of walls. So with the new corner window option, this is possible, however in plan view, the cad block for the windows is not right, so I suggest we have corner door openings, (thanks again for your support on this). Maybe CA will read this and realize that again that did the job halfway and fix this for X9. A special thanks to Joe Carrick for his help with this.
  11. I believe they have a very similar style at Canterbury cathedral at the cloisters.
  12. I will check with my client, but I would assume he likes the look.
  13. This is the challenge, build this with walls & openings .
  14. Okay, we have corner windows with x8, super, by why can't we have corner doors/door openings? Yep, we can use the windows in lieu of doors to get the same result, but, why not use doors/door openings..... not a big deal, i will do a vid. BTW, this new corner option opens up some new options, I think this is very nice. X8 ain't a bad release.
  15. CA has great phone support.
  16. Auto exterior dimensions work well, auto interior dimensions not so well. Not CA's fault, just a tough thing to program. I find it quicker to put in my own interior dimensions.
  17. Hi CA, Is X8 client viewer available now?
  18. I called them this morning, no problem, they answered the phone and answered my questions. Try this number.... (208) 292-3399
  19. So, we have Gerry and Joe having issues. What does that tell you? It tells me this is not ready for prime time. CA, this is very important stuff for me. Please find time to put this together, thank you.
  20. Well Michael, if you did not live in the hinterland, it should take only 30 minutes....... it seems that when I download the core catalogs, the time is not an issue because I can still work with CA while downloading...... 30 minutes maybe? It is the bonus and manuf catalog downloads that is a big hassle..... for me anyway..... I am having a longing to visit Michael's great state of Alaska again...... it probably will not happen for a couple of years..... hey Michael, you know that whenever you come down into my neck of the woods, you are always welcome to give me a call so we can get together.
  21. Hi P., maybe we can get together soon with a GTM, I have an open mind, but I am not convinced I can do what I need to do with the current system.
  22. If you ever figure it out, please let me know. I do not think it will work auto, it is wrong the way it is set up. If somebody disagrees with me, please set me straight.
  23. I have not had a chance yet to review Joe's method. I have not had a chance to review what Gerry is talking about. What I do know is that Joe and Gerry have probably come up with a way to get an area analysis of different "boxes". This is something I did several years ago but it was a lot of work and not reliable due to "arrows" disconnecting. What I think Gerry is saying is it is still a lot of work. I would rather not spend hours working this out with macros. CA should come up with a way to make area analysis of multiple boxes easy peasy. I understand that if the model is built correctly with the correct room labels, we may be able to get some sort of elementary area analysis. Note that I said elementary, I need something more than elementary. I do not understand why this should be such a mystery to understand and then to come up with a solution. I need to be a able to draw multiple boxes such that the area of these boxes can be inputted into a multitude of mathematical equations. As I have said before, I have a word processing program and a spread sheet program where I can come up with multiple values of the program using the different "cells". I do not need to create macros. Thank you Gerry and Joe for keeping this request alive. Hopefully with X9, this will be a possibility. If CA does not understand the request, they can give me a call to explain what I am looking for.
