Since it didn't stitch together, I ended up with two separate single scans. It wasn't as useful in the crawlspace as I was hoping. I had a Milwaukee floodlight on top of it and did my best to get it level, but who knows when it's 3 feet of vertical working space with the camera sitting flat on the ground and me crawling around like a grumpy old man down there.

Still worth while though since you were there.  Much easier to look at sitting at your desk rather than crawling around in a monkey suit with a flashlight.  Curious about the green laser.  Is that an artifact produced by the matterport camera or a separate laser level ?

Knob and Tube !  Looking pretty good for a place of that vintage. :)

If my plot plan is in decimal ft does my scaling of say my building to property line work in normal ft?

I don't think you will find that to be a hard and fast rule and it will depend on what the local requirements are and or who you are producing the drawing for.   Surveyors will always use decimal feet but if it is the contractor laying out the footings he may prefer to work with feet and inches.

Not sure about the dimensions being off if everything is drawn to scale as you may need to post some images or the plan file for that.

My plan file is to big.

Try zipping the file or upload it to your cloud account and post the download link or PM Mark and he might be able to provide his email if it is under 25MB.

I tried scanning a crawlspace of a house built in 1900, but the scans would not stitch together because the ground sloped too much.

That is a very interesting situation. Do you figure it is because of the sloping floor or the tripod not being plumb.  The elevation change should not be an issue because I have seen scan locations on stairway landings or even mid flight and it works.  It would be interesting to know if it was just a setup glitch or a software stitching problem ?

Quick question regarding importing an OBJ file from matterpak.

When I import it comes in about 24"x12"x6".

It looks like it is likely coming in as inches rather than meters.

  6. You can create a custom polyline schedule in the new X14 which should be pretty handy for that purpose.  Otherwise Joe has a macro package that does a lot of that and is pre formatted.

  7. Yes I believe so as I am not sure if chief exports the right information as DXF.

I have another client that does the same sort of work and uses a CSV text file to load into the Total Station.

I could send you a sample to test if you like.  Or check the manual and see what the formatting should be for your model.

I didn't know about Vector etc. views. I now have the navajo on the teapot but still doesn't show up in my polyline solid?

There is still a little more to learn about vector views because it needs to be standard view to see it on the teapot and it also follows the same rules in the plan as your elevation view appears to be vector which is normal so have a look in a standard render perspective view.  You can switch your elevation camera to standard view but remember to switch it back.

Are you asking about the Living Area Label? Being heated has no bearing on what shows.

Obviously  "heated" has a different meaning in AZ than it does in TN but being from further north heated to me is the same as a "conditioned"  room of which certain types of rooms are not and generally those rooms are also not tallied as living area.

So if the label will not appear by turning it on in General Plan Defaults the trick is to run Plan Check and that should restore it.

I am trying to find out if 14 is just beta or fully released as well. I hate to work on actual projects with a beta version, so hopefully it is fully implemented soon.

It is in Public Beta now and seems to be quite stable as there is not a whole lot of discussion going on.  No reason to not try it out for situations like this.

Now that would fix the direction, but how will we ever fix the scale?

You may be able to do both by working in a separate plan file and using an imported symbol of the house but have not actually had to do it but thinking those would be the right tools.

  12. I would say you have a good base setup but if you are going to be doing any significant amount of RTRT then you should have a 3070Ti or better.

Also the ability to add more RAM if you run other software with chief or have multiple monitors.  Minimum of 1TB SSD unless you want to do a lot of file transfers with a HDD.  I started with a 256 GB SSD and had it filled in a mater of months.

  13. That would certainly be a nice feature to have but I don't think that there is any way to get there as the software is now.

You would need to transfer your site plan to a metric template and reference it on your layout, or if there are not many elevation lines as pictured I would just do the conversions and paste a text box over top but you may end up with some funky decimal places converting feet to meters.

And I haven't figured out how to make a copy of the plan in order to input a smaller sized file.

File > Save As > and give it a new name then edit that copy and take out fixtures and furnishings that are not needed.

You might also need to post the PDF if you were unable to create a material from it.

You can have a look in Alan's plan file unless he posted it as X14.

And why is it cut off in my camera view?

That seems like it is most likely a result of drawing the p-solid in elevation view when the elevation camera is not square to the wall so either the wall is not straight or the camera slipped when placing it so check the wall angle and you can't adjust an elevation camera so if it of out of wack you will need to replace it and make sure angle snaps are on when you do it and it will be much easier.

My zip is too large. How do I get it smaller?

Sorry they reduced the limit.  You either have to delete some unnecessary stuff from a copy of your plan file or upload the file to your cloud account and post the link to the file here.

I've made a mess. I'm just going to ask support because I've got so many issues and have no idea why — not feeling LOL but what else to do?!

You can always post your plan file here when tech support is closed.

  18. You could use the Screen Capture tool to create a material from the Imported PDF then apply to the wall or a p-solid.  Enlarge it on your screen though so you capture as many pixels as possible to increase the resolution.
