  1. David, As I mentioned before I don't consider Austin to be a rural area for internet service, such as Michael and I may be facing such issues as well as an older router. Do you have the latest high tech router and do you suspect any deficiencies in your internet service. Chopsaw
  2. Ben: Not so sure you will like this solution but this is how Chief suggests it can be done in CA training videos (#370 & #371) Best of Luck, Chopsaw
  3. Adrean, This is a great approach and thank you for explaining your situation. I am not sure exactly how the website determines their elevation data but it does not seem to be live or as accurate as the many decimal places suggest. I would be interested in using the Chief X-Y grid system to accurately plot GPS coordinates and corresponding elevations sourced from a variety of more accurate sources. This would be overlaid on a plot plan derived from an official survey such that once this has been established then using the X-Y grid system any theoretical or proposed point for new development within or even outside the plot plan could be assigned an accurate GPS position from the grid. This theory should be rather easy to understand but unfortunately in real life there are many obstacles to overcome to achieve this and a comprehensive technical overview of how to achieve this in Chief would be invaluable to many. This would have to include standardized procedures for converting all of the currently used methods of measurement for distance and angles used by surveyors over the last 100 years. As well as how to apply this within the program. I was working on this last year and made a lot of progress but did not complete the project when I ran out of time but still intend to finish as I believe this is possible in Chief but I am not aware of anyone who has done it. Please contact me if you are interested in working on this together. Thanks, Chopsaw
  4. Brian, This is still a major issue for me even when I have not changed my account login state. I will try to keep better track of the time factor but it seems that anything over 60 seconds is almost sure to fail like right now I am not seeing the "Auto Save Feature" on the bottom left of the reply box so I am quite sure to expect a posting failure with this post as this has happened to me many many times an I would say you are at about a 80% failure rate with me as it sometimes takes two or three tries to make a successful posting. This problem is also plaguing your Tech Support page as reported to Kirk this morning. I am using I.E. 11 for my browser and never get any sort of error message, just smoke. I would be happy to answer any other questions that I can as I am sure other users will to get this fixed. Thanks, Chopsaw P.S. Auto save just lost most of a post that I was working on for over an hour. Good thing I saved before pressing that friendly looking green "Post" button that just ate my post. 2:13 PM EDT
  5. Just like Joe said and here is the Picture that took 30 seconds extra.
  6. Adrean, I have previously done searches on manually plotting GPS in Chief and found nothing. This is a great tool although it would have to be carefully compared to actual ground data. Would you be able to put together a tutorial on plotting GPS elevation data such as this onto a traditional survey using "Horizontal Ground Distances" measurement. Thanks, Chopsaw
  7. Cindy, Thank you for making me aware of how to make my workspace on my screen larger. If you find that you are missing those Scrollbars you might want to talk to tech support because they should just toggle on and off when you need to. I think I remember loosing my status bar one time and it was a windows glitch that eventually self corrected.
  8. Rod, Nice work, that looks good. Thanks for posting your results. Alan, Where did you run into trouble with the tutorial, and has it been fixed yet?
  9. Rod, If you are having difficulty with the tutorial here is a brief overview of the process that I wrote before I saw the tutorial using the same theories. The tutorial has a lot of great stuff that would be good to learn eventually but there are short cuts that will produce the same results if you are in a hurry with your project. Basically the same as Yusuf has explained just stated in a more general way. See post #3 here : https://chieftalk.chiefarchitect.com/index.php?/topic/9302-historic-brick-firehouse-rhode-island/
  10. Ernie, Here is some recent discussion on the topic. See posts #4,#6,#9 specifically for answers to you question. I have been interested in this topic but have not had a project with the proper budget to try it out on yet. I would think you would need a Smokin!! hot computer setup like Perry's and lots of time and patients and money to pay for everything previously mentioned. https://chieftalk.chiefarchitect.com/index.php?/topic/8582-more-realistic-walk-throughs/?hl=walkthrough I am not sure if Dennis has done any more detailed work than this since his posting but I can envision a movie made with hundreds or even thousands of high resolution ray-trace images working quit well. You could send him a PM (personal message) and you might get a response if he does not see this post.
  11. If you think your issues are anything like this: https://chieftalk.chiefarchitect.com/index.php?/topic/9308-forum-posting-issues/ Please add your issues and comments as Chief is currently working on the problem. That is if you are still able to post!!! If not please call them.
  12. Michael, You are only off by 39 and about 47/128ths inches, but good guess. That would be really close if you were driving.
  13. This type of question would normally go in the General Q & A Section but you could start by looking here : https://chieftalk.chiefarchitect.com/index.php?/topic/5934-tile-material-changes/?hl=%2Bvector+%2Btile If that does not do it then read this: https://chieftalk.chiefarchitect.com/index.php?/topic/9731-altering-tile-patterns/?hl=%2Btile+%2Btexture#entry84960 Here is a CA texture tutorial : https://www.chiefarchitect.com/support/article/KB-00767/creating-a-new-material.html You just need to learn the CA terminology and you can direct your own searches.
  14. Yes I suppose that does deserve an explanation as there may be a better way. A: I primarily use the door and window schedules to communicate R/O Sizes for the framers. B: I wanted to include a CA Sliding Barn Door in my Door Schedule which made sense to me. The problem being that the Barn Doors are all in the library as Fixtures and the dimensions given seem to be for the Bounding Box (hardware included) of the symbol. So since the barn doors surface mount over a Doorway, I thought it just made sense to keep it all on one line of the Door Schedule. Submitted to Tech Support for evaluation June 21 Case #61087 Edit : With the introduction of X9 the Description column for Doorways can now be edited through the Object Information panel.
  15. Three decimal places seems to be the standard for metric surveys in my area and is the only way to differentiate from an imperial survey because the Unit Indicators do not seem to be used by professionals.
  16. Thanks Shane, That will work for this plan but there are lots or reasons that it should have worked with "Doorway" so I will talk to Tech when I get a chance to see why this was not done the same way as "Pass-Thru". If it was a oversight then it would be an easy fix since they have already worked it out once.
  17. Hey Shane, Thanks for working on that for me all night. The schedule works for me but did you use a 2D cad mask or is there a way to not display the door without destroying its properties?
  18. Works fine here, although I have not done the 18.3.0.47 update yet.
  19. So maybe like this Perry. Maybe we should all just get together and finish the design for Jberd, as this is likely for a non-profit situation anyway.
  20. Try pushing down on your roller wheel and panning with mouse. This should save you tonnes of time.
  21. Shane, Your "Chopsaw Door" must not be a "DOORWAY" because it appears to have hinges. Can you show the Component DBX?
  22. I am not yet a window expert but maybe it is the walls that are the problem. Are you displaying only the main layer?
  23. Yes Shane, That seems to work great for everything but "Doorway" and indeed should work just the same as your example of Pass-Thru. But I can't get access to it as Glenn was referring to in post #8. Do you see something different in your "Doorway" Component DBX with X7 than I did in post #5 with X8? I would rather not use a different column as I would then have to change all my other stock doors to another column just to accommodate 1 custom door in the same schedule. Only 4 this time but next time it could be 30.
  24. Sorry for the confusion guys, I am just trying to customize my Door Schedule for a Doorway the same way that Shane did for his Pass-Thru on his Window Schedule. Hopefully without the Text Overlay as shown in the attached thumbnail. It seems to me that the same principals should apply for a Doorway as a Pass-Thru, or Not.
