  1. Coming in January - big news!!! The January macro will provide named Polyline Areas in a Hash Table. The Polyline will be Labeled with the name and the area. Those areas will be available for use in other user Text Macros to perform calculations and display the results. This will mean you can have a Polyline named "Building 1 (E)", another named "Building 1 (D)" and will be able to subtract the 2nd from the 1st to get the remainder. Whatever calculations you want to make is up to you. There is no limit on the number of closed PLines so performing area analysis calculations and displaying can be exactly the way you want it.
  2. The December Macro of the Month is: Wall Label - sample output: Wall 1.01 Wall 1.02 Wall 1.03 Wall 1.04 ... Wall 2.08 Wall 2.09 Wall 2.10 Wall 2.11 .... The whole number is the Floor and the decimal number is the Wall #. The Project Browser Wall Details will have the same names as the Wall Labels.
  3. Ray, I absolutely agree. I've made that suggestion so many times that it hurts. But in this particular case my solution worked for what the OP needed.
  4. I have my "Temp Dimension" Defaults set to locate "Both Sides" of Walls. When initially drawing the plan I just get it close. Then I can select the walls and modify the "Temp Dimensions" to get everything exact. It's actually faster than trying to draw it exact initially. Note: If you don't know the exact wall construction (Wall Type) then your walls may not be the correct thicknesses and you will need to make adjustments accordingly.
  5. The NVidea Drivers were not compatible with the initial Win10 installation. It may have been that NVidea had fouled their Drivers at that time and you got caught in upgrading the drivers at the same time. It was fixed after a couple of weeks and I haven't heard of any problem since. IAE, when Win10 couldn't install the NVidea Drivers it reverted to the onboard GPU's.
  6. Add a Carpet Runner. That will cover the Riser.
  7. Keith, This is a problem that occurred with the initial Windows10 installation. I have not seen it except on a Laptop. All of my Desktop systems worked without a problem.
  8. Since it's not Plan Specific, I would look at Preferences and if there's no luck there then it's probably hardware.
  9. No, of course not. But to create 3D Details a small plan can be used. Just like you might use a "Detail Plan" to create 2D CAD Details, you can create 3D cut-away Details.
  10. Yusuf's method works extremely well. I've been using it since the Material Regions were first introduced. It will cut away all the surfaces down to the main layer, so if you want a multi-layer cutaway, you can use several different Material Region definitions, each with 1 less layers. By strategically locating each region, you can get a sequential cut-away 3D detail.
  11. Rob, I think this has to do with the 3D presentation of Light Fixtures in X7. There are a lot of surfaces and to load and display them takes a bit of time. It's a nice feature, but like most things - there's a price.
  12. In this particular case I'm doing a Luxury Tiny House on an 8'x20' trailer. Take a look at post #6 in this thread. It's a pretty typical detail but I'm lag bolting the plate to the floor joists which are bolted to the trailer.
  13. Sorry Glenn, It's an X8 Plan so I can't post it in this Forum. Only X8 Beta users would be able to open it. IAE, I checked the Wall dbx - Structure Panel..... "Stop at Floor Below" wasn't checked. I'm not sure how that happened but that was the problem.
  14. I'm using SIP walls and I can't get the 1st Floor Platform to frame to the exterior face of the SIPs. Chief insists on making the SIP's go down to the sill plate and puts the Floor framing inside. Is this normal? Do I need to make a stud wall with 48" stud spacing to get this to work?
  15. Right, You can change PlainText to Rich Text but you can't change Rich Text to PlainText.
  16. In addition, with Rich Text, any individual Letters, Words or Lines can be different. With just plain Text everything is the same.

Glenn, Here's the problem: My method places a full height post on each floor (1,2,3,4,5....) and it appears correct in 3D as well as on each Floor Plan - but there's more than one in the materials list or framing schedule. Your method shows correctly in 3D and is correct in the materials list and framing schedule but can only show on 2 Floor Plans using a Reference Set. With more than 2 Floors the Reference Set will not show the post on all Floors.
  18. Brian, I think the only way Chief could do this would be to have a "toggle" to "Show on all Floors". But that wouldn't work either if you wanted it to show only on specific floors. Here's how I would handle it: 1. Place the Post on Floor 1. 2. Open it's dbx and lock the Bottom. 3. Set the Top Height as needed 4. Close the dbx 5. Copy (Ctrl_C) 6. Go to each of the other Floors and "Paste Hold Position" (Ctrl_Alt_V) There will actually be multiple Posts but it will look the way you want - all of them will be at the exact same location in the model but will be visible on all floors. It's not perfect, but the only real downside is that the material list (and maybe the "X8 Framing Schedule") would be wrong.
  19. Less elevation data will always produce a smoother terrain. Also consider some small (strategically placed) elevation regions which will tend to make smoother transitions from level to sloped areas.

  21. This really points out why dimensions from floor to floor can't be relied on when using Lumber for Floor Joists. Green vs Dry can be 1/4" different. But if you think that's bad - Log Construction typically must allow for at least 2" shrinkage per Story/Floor and the Door and Window Openings need to allow for a minimum 1-1/2" shrinkage.
  22. Joey, Try this - use a 2" stud wall with a finish on only one side. Turn it back on itself as shown (3 segments). The Shower wall can then be moved freely without clipping the stud wall.
  23. Keith, I'm also a descendant of the British. My ancestry goes back to the Rhode Island Colony in 1626. IAE, the 2x_ was originally 2" rough cut lumber Then at some point in time (early 1900's I think) they started planing them to make them smooth so that splinters were less likely. Hence the 1-3/4" size. About 1950-1960 they reduced it to 1-5/8". I'm not sure exactly how that came about but I believe it was about shrinkage as the lumber was dried after milling. In the 1960-1970 time frame they reduced it to 1-1/2" - probably just to save material (more yield per log).
  24. There are a couple of possibilities: 1. Make the Garage just 1 Floor with the Ceiling Height equal to the 2nd Floor Ceiling of the rest of the structure. 2. Make the Exterior Walls at the Garage "Balloon Thru". #2 is the best solution IMO. You only have to do that for one wall. Chief will take care of the rest.
