  1. How do you handle the sizing of headers in Non-Bearing Walls? I use the depths set in the Framing Defaults for Bearing Walls, but that's generally overkill in Non-Bearing Walls. It would be nice if there was a separate set of Defaults. btw, I still want to be able to display the new Chief Headers as a single line (my choice of Linestyle, Line_Weight & Color). The current "filled full width display" is very annoying.
  2. Either use the comments field to indicate "double 30x80 door" or create a custom field in the OIP.
  3. You should post your questions on HomeTalk rather than ChiefTalk. There are differences in the software and you would probably get a better answer there.
  4. Steve, Yes, a separate Plan View for each floor for each discipline. I've even broken it down for framing to Floor, Ceiling, Rafters and Trusses. Electrical could be broken into Power and Lighting. It really just depends on how finely you want to show things in the Layout. I also have a Roof Plan View for each Floor Level - not always needed depending on the design but it's nice when it is needed. One of the really nice parts of this is that whatever name you give the Plan View in the Project Browser is what the %view_name% macro will display. That makes naming your views to be sent to Layout much easier. IOW, put that macro in a Text Box on each Floor Level and when you switch Plan Views the title will change accordingly.
  5. pSolids will only union when in the same plane. Solids are more flexible.
  6. Was that available in Beta? I had requested that ability but wasn't aware it was available. btw, editing the bounding box and the 3d origin values provides a very accurate rectangular wall cutout.
  7. Michael, How do you access this "Wall Cutout Polyline" to edit its shape? I've found no way to do that. The only way I've found to change the cutout size is to change the size of the Bounding Box but that doesn't change the shape.
  8. Callout Text is hard-coded to the Schedule Number. It's possible to do a macro for the text, but not in the Callout.
  9. One thing to be aware of: The actual fireplaces are actually bigger in length and height than these symbols. I had to limit the symbols to the "frame" so that the hole in the wall would be properly sized. The new "Inserts in Wall" feature in X10 doesn't provide for the hole to be different than the width and height of the symbol. This is something that CA should provide so the symbols could be more accurate, accounting for the real size of an object.
  10. Yes, in the Framing Schedule, you need to uncheck the "Use Callout for Label"
  11. Here's another. This one is base on the Superior DRL4543 See-Thru. It's 48" wide x 18" tall x 17" deep. It inserts in a 16-3/4" thick wall. Linear Fireplace - See-thru.calibz
  12. Attached is a Linear Fireplace Symbol that automatically inserts into a wall (requires Chief version X10). I used the Napoleon LDH62 model and set the bottom to +32". Once inserted, it can be repositioned and/or resized as needed. If you want to change the manufacturer or model number you can do that in the OIP (Object Information Panel) This particular fireplace is 62" wide x 18" tall x 22" deep. If resized, the frame will not stretch, only the overall size. Linear Fireplace - Napoleon LHD62.calibz
  13. Whenever Chief suggests "fixing" the name - Don't do it !!! - just select "IGNORE"
  14. BEST The Insert Macro dialog for user macros is now scrollable and will jump to any A/N character. This is a big improvement. It's not the ideal (browser with folders) but it's a step in the right direction. WORST The Attempt to force the naming of user macros to begin with a lower case letter. This is a really bad decision by CA.
  15. Thanks Michael. It's been a long time since I needed that.
  16. I've noticed that I'm getting duplicates of materials in the Plan in X10. I didn't notice this in previous versions - but it may have been there. Is there any way to "merge" those duplicates into a single material? I really don't like having more than one "Drywall", etc. The list just gets too long.
  17. Add a thin layer of paint to your wall definitions. Then all you have to do is edit that "paint" material to the color you want.
  18. I don't think it works with "Automatic Dimensions". That for me is a PITA and I've submitted a request to have that fixed. When that might happen is anyone's guess.
  19. I'll have to check when I get home.
  20. Scott, Is this an existing condition or "what the owner wants to do" ? You may have to extend the fire protection horizontally on both sides of the 1-hr. wall. I think the city would agree to it if the roof of the existing house and the deck of the new house could both be made to have a 1-hr. fire rating for a minimum of 3 feet from the "property line". ps: That's more than just a layer of 5/8" drywall.
  21. My solution was to copy the first floor dims to the foundation plan and eliminate the dims I didn't need. I also put them on a Dimensions, Foundation layer and locked it so there wasn't any chance of inadvertently editing them later.
  22. I have the Dimension Defaults set to dimension to the Main Layer. But Auto Exterior Dimensions are being created to the outside edge of the Brick Ledge. I tried moving the Extension Line to the inside of the Brick Ledge but can't snap to that line. This is not what I want. I like my Foundation dimensions to match the Floor Plan dimensions. If I wanted the outside of the Brick Ledge I would have specified the dimensions to be the "Surfaces" instead of the "Wall Dimension Layer"
  23. IMO Chief has it right in X10. Any special conditions beyond that should be up to you to detail with CAD.
  24. Chief uses json files to store "Ruby Script Files". Not knowing what that particular file is or where it came from I would be reluctant to download or save it. I definitely would not be inclined to import it using Text Macro Management as it could contain a malicious script. OTOH, you could call Tech Support and ask them if they know what that file is?
