flat 2x12 laying on roof to accept rafters from reverse gable
ShaneK replied to Snoodle's topic in General Q & A
No easy way to do it and there are several ways to do it. Amount of work will depend on who needs to see it. 2d for construction documents is easy like Perry's way or 3d (not sure who needs to see 3d except us, lol) and Rod Cole will show you how SOLIDS work for this situation. -
I used your roof planes, I did delete the polyline hole in roof (skylight). If I had time it could be set up to auto/build roofs.

Inside gets my vote and has been my method. Great videos guys showing the multiple ways to do the same thing.

Very odd behavior.

What version of Chief do you have?

Thanks for work around, labels should be moveable with "select" as it was in previous verXVII ( see picture) and roof truss should fit too if all was well in the program. I reported bugs and I had already done truss work around but I made symbol so it shows in 3d.

I lock truss envelope after modifications. I'm using truss company viewing software right now on 34,000 ft house project and they didn't want anything to do with castle roof over great room. So Chief did it for me, lol.

This house will be on The Learning Channel for sure this fall. Filming crew showing up in April, we are going to build 4th floor cupola on the ground and lift it for TV viewing, lol.

Truss labels in truss detail are LOCKED!!!!! Am I missing something or rather has something changed? We should be able to move them, yes layer is unlocked. I called tech but no answer, just confirmed my situation. Also open plan and try to add another mono truss opposite of truss #12 which is normal. Error message tells me not enough room bla, bla, bla. Cross section shows plenty of room. Been away for too long,,,,,,,,,,,big project keeping me away from forum time. Dining Rm Truss 2.plan

I had to get this done TODAY for truss engineer on Monday. These are trusses converted to symbols and manually placed around steel framing collar. I have just over an hour into this Truss vid.mp4

I'm not arguing but I have done FREE designs that resulted in projects for my building company, BUT I'm a Design/Build Contractor. Last year I did a preliminary design on a 27,000 sq ft Yamaha Dealership and got the contract and was paid for all print work. This person was not a stranger to me so each situation is different. On the flip side I have been abused or taken advantage of on occasion but that is business, no risk, no gain.

Experience is the most important quality, don't bite off more than handle. Each project you will learn more, about the program and the design business. When you run into something that is more than you can handle ( we all have done that in this forum ) get good advice and educate yourself on what you're working on. In my younger days an old timer told me " do good work at a fair price and you'll always be working". GoodLuck
