  1. Oh that'll do it too, didn't think about those buttons. I usually ignore them since they can sometimes confuse things. But the "Move" option is pretty fool proof!
  2. In my experience the program is never (rarely?) wrong in these calculations, it's just sometimes unclear what is being calculated, or how. I have no idea if X1 had this but I assume it did, but a Living Area polyline will show you exactly what's being calculated. They have an article on this: https://www.chiefarchitect.com/support/article/KB-00424/understanding-how-the-square-footage-or-living-area-is-calculated.html
  3. Can't really lock an object's size, when you move something using dimensions just be aware that exactly what you're describing is the intended functionality. But if you "group select" a single object (hold shift then click), then the whole thing is affected by that move. Temporary Dimensions sometimes don't generate the way you need them to though, so you'll likely need to manually put in your own dimensions.
  4. Your zip file contains a 0kb plan file, usually this happens when the plan is still open in Chief when you zip it. Close Chief and try again.
  5. To expand on that: 3D> Create Orthographic View> Full -or- Floor Overview 3D> Rendering Techniques> Standard 3D> View Direction> Top View
  6. Text likes to align Right and Down. So even if you try to get fancy with a ► character or something, you'll still see something like Best off the cuff solution would be to create two line styles, use Disconnect Selected Edge and alternate styles as needed:
  7. Not using Defaults. Doing exactly what you said. Open roof plane and set it to a new layer with a different color, red. Roof lines turn red. Good. Then go to Label and set it to a new layer with a different color, green. Label Text turns green. Good. Yet the Arrow Line color is still blue. The Arrow head and Fill can be changed, of course but the Arrow Line color remains locked to the original "Roofs, Labels" layer color. This is shown to be the case when the "Roofs, Labels" layer's color is changed, changing all the Label arrows
  8. I'm not so sure. I emulated this same setup @Larry_Sweeney outlined above and I'm also seeing this issue. (But it's not the "Roofs, Labels" layer its pulling from, not "Rooms, Labels", mistype?) Auto Roofs disabled. Opened and set roof planes to a copied "Roof Planes, 1" layer, set it Red. Set roof plane labels to a copied "Roofs, Labels, 1", set it Red. Roof polylines and Label text are Red, but Arrow lines are blue. change "Roofs, Labels" to green... @SNestoreven if your screenshot you seem to be showing the same issue:
  9. Not sure why he deleted his comment, equally unsure if this is the same solution, but turning off the window's Apron removes the bottom casing allowing the Pony Wall to come up right to the bottom of the window. The Sill has to be present for this to work, but can be covered by the pony wall, or set to use a much smaller molding profile.
  10. Ah. At first that's what I thought you meant, but thought that surely can't be it because you can't re-order THOSE! But hey, lookit that. That's wild. I don't see any way that could have happened. Is it only in the Reference dialog or is it also like that in the Layer Display / ALDO? Hopefully this means they sent it up the ladder to get fixed. X16 is Beta after all!
  11. Assuming this is what you're talking about, make sure it's not sorted by some random column?
  12. I think all answers depend on what you deem "easily". BUT! Assuming they're both the same size sheet, we can assume that the origins of the sheets should be the same. I'd hope. If that's the case, you can Copy and Paste/Hold Position anything between these two layouts and they'll be in the same spot on both files. Depending on the differences in the layouts, you may consider copying the new Layout page 0 data to your file, or copying your layout's Layout Boxes etc to this new template.
  13. I wouldn't suspect the wall types to be the problem, and potentially nothing else with the walls themselves, since wall height is set and controlled by the rooms they define I'd look there. But those rooms you opened looked the same at quick glance. Will probably need some hands-on exploration. Post the plan so we can dig!
  14. You've got both Roof Cuts Wall at Bottom AND Lower Wall Type if Split checked. Only one at a time. Why it even lets you do that is beyond me. You'll likely have to manually pull the Hole back, too, but it should automatically reshape itself to look something like this
  15. Indeed, there is no "wall height". Ceilings heights set the height of the walls around a given room. Check out their video on story-and-a-half roofs: https://www.chiefarchitect.com/videos/watch/1605/designing-a-one-and-a-half-story-roof.html
  16. Negative, there is no renaming floor numbers in the programs interface. Rely instead on how you label the printed pages on your Layout page rather than what the program is saying the floors technically are. No one's going to see the Floor number in the program but you.
  17. Not if it's in the Library Browser, that's the whole point of saving Line Styles and Walls and Moldings, etc etc, is that they don't need to exist in the plan. you just Select that Library object and then click and drag on the plan to create that object. Once you do that, that Wall Type exists as part of that plan. I just tested it, made a Siding-6 with two layers of siding, add to Library, open New Plan, grabbed it in my library and drew out a wall using that new definition. There's no Import process, you just use it.
  18. Generally speaking if you search the error your getting on their webpage, you'll find there's likely an article with info on it and steps to fix https://www.chiefarchitect.com/search/?default_tab=all&q=The+Catalog+Could+Not+Be+Found+On+The+Server
  19. You never drag items from the library. I'm pretty sure you just select it in the library and Draw a wall out as you normally would.
  20. If the foundation rebuild didn't fix it, it's probably the Floor 1 walls or floor structure. We'd probably need you to post the plan to look into what's really happening though. it could be an issue with the wall definitions, maybe framing, it's hard to say for sure with just a picture.
  21. All Auto Stairwell does is create an Open Below room above the selected stairs, typically outlined with Railings. So it sounds like custom ceiling plane would be the way to go. Looks like Floor/Ceiling framing is not set to auto rebuild, and the Ceiling Joists layer isn't on in section views so you won't see it building. I'd suggest taking an elevation view and using some CAD Lines or points to find the appropriate heights to plug into the ceiling plane.
  22. You don't need to use that tool here. Simply open that "Down" room and set it's room type to Open Below. If I were to assume though, it's probably failing because the walls are not lined up correctly on Floor 2. Also, for the Bonus Round, the error message that keeps coming up, assuming you haven't suppressed it, is telling you that you need yo break your landing. Just use the Add Break tool to put a break in the middle so that each stair has a dedicated edge to connect to. They won't properly connect otherwise.
  23. Pretty sure that hasn't changed (much) since X11, but you're only showing the Floor/Ceiling Platform defaults. This is a good place to start, but you also need to make sure that the Floor defaults are set to follow these defaults, and the rooms to follow floors. Framing defaults trickle down, Platform > Floors > Rooms, so it won't matter what the Platform Defaults are if the floors aren't following those defaults, or likewise if the rooms aren't following the Floor defaults. As always, if you still can't figure it out, post the plan file.
  24. In case you haven't already, there's a separate forum for Home Designer that you might check (https://hometalk.chiefarchitect.com/) Also I would check to make sure the wall tops are set to follow their default heights, it looks like they may have been pulled up to that height and aren't being cut by the roof like they should be. Check out https://www.chiefarchitect.com/support/article/KB-00579/controlling-wall-floor-and-ceiling-heights.html, scroll down to the "To change the height of a single wall" and "To reset heights" bits.
