  1. TLDR: this is a known issue that happens a lot I don't harp on ppl about this often but you should update your signature -- if I remember correctly this issue was more common/pronounced in older versions, but it still happens in X15. Curious to see if we'll see any improvements in 16.
  2. You can only delete Layers that aren't in use in some manner - look at the Used column, mousing over it tells you how it's being used. The fun part is figuring out WHERE. It'll just tell you its used in a default or some such vagueness, but as long as you can track down where it's being used and remove it, then it can be deleted. Unless it's a System Layer. Then the answer's simply "No." You'll be better off not messing with it and just Renaming the layers you care about and ignoring the rest. Putting a space or two at the beginning, or a dash or something, will sort them to the top of the list.
  3. That Plan file can't be opened. Assuming what's happened here is you've painted your exterior walls, then drew a deck. When you draw room attached to an Exterior wall, that new area is then defined as a Room that has its own "wall" material, the default is to just defer to the wall's default material. End result: the wall loses the material that was painted and goes back to using the Wall's default material, i.e., whatever the Wall Type is defined to use. You'll run into less issues if you redefine your Siding wall type to use that gray siding material rather than using the painter tool.
  4. Testing that same setup, I get the same thing. If I'm understanding how it's working, the Temp dimension is just locating the "two nearest" points. If the Cabinet is wide enough that it's edge is between two adjacent wall points, it'll pick those up and not show the cabinet's width. If it's less wide, it'll pick up the walls on either side (effectively cab width)
  5. Clever! But sadly nope. What he's specifying is the window Arch which can't Match Roof. The Shape can match but only in straight edges. I just tried it out of curiosity and it seems to seemingly arbitrarily (I'm sure there's reason) choose one of the curved roof facet angles to match.
  6. Only time I've ever seen the Materials show blank like this is when you have more than one thing selected where the components aren't the same. If you open each of these windows on their own and compare the Materials list, bet there's some difference in the components listed.
  7. That's a negative, good buddy. No negative radius allowed.
  8. Probably gonna need some more specific info -- Layouts link to plans once a view is sent, so there's nothing to do in order to link them aside from just, use them the way they work. What exactly do you mean? Temp dims have a toggle, they're prob just turned off. Right side toolbar, near the bottom, T icon. Also in the View menu.
  9. It's a bit convoluted but since you can Cut/Copy cameras now, you could select all cameras, Reverse plan, Paste -- anyway I get what you're saying. It's a pain and it would be nice to just be able to rotate the darn things. I have to assume it's not as simple as that in the code or our many requests over the years surely would have been fulfilled. Not sure what you mean about the Insertion Point thing, that's been an option for a long time and still is in X15
  10. Makes sense. By my measurement the roof needs to come up at least 3 3/4" so that the OSB can't protrude through. Marquee Select Similar & Transform\Replicate tools make quick work of this sort of adjustment.
  11. huh. Usually it's floor OSB peeking out, but in this case your Ceiling Structure has an OSB layer on top, and the roof is so low it's cutting through
  12. Happens when you haven't defined Attic rooms on the floor above.
  13. One must assume if it's not been an option all these years, then it's more than just laziness preventing it from being added. Reverse Plan actually does flip Elevation cameras, too. It is only a Left to Right flip, though.
  14. If you browse through their sample plan files, Chief does this a lot, just not in a schedule like you have shown here - there isn't a way to include them in the Schedule like that. Just create a bunch of slabs or 3D Solids and display them in a camera view. Orthographic view in Standard set to Top View is handy to arrange them nicely.
  15. Can't open your plan, it didn't zip right (shows 0kb size). At a glance though I wonder if they're even "on" or not - go to Adjust Lights and see if Max Lights is set to something low. If so, increase the max lights or set it to a Light Set.
  16. Yeah, that can be a bit confusing. Sadly the answer is largely "you get used to it eventually". But very few things are duplicated anywhere, and if they are they're basically just the same dialog just used in two places. "Build Framing" and "Build Roof" for example are the same as their respective Defaults. What you're seeing in those other examples are what they call Dynamic Defaults. Taking one of your examples, the Floor and Ceiling Structures for each floor aren't duplicating the defaults in the Floor/Ceiling Platform - they're using them. Default Settings> Floors and Rooms> Floor/Ceiling Platform is where each floor--and subsequently, each room--get those values from. I'd suggest browsing Chief's videos on Dynamic Defaults, it should help paint a better picture.
  17. I'd probably try: Edit, Edit Area - drag a marquee around everything Transform/Replicate (bottom toolbar) +/-3" in whatever axis necessary.
  18. it was replaced - select a room, in the toolbar at the bottom use Auto Room Dimension.
  19. It's the roof plane to the right - it's wrapping around the front edge slightly Pull it back and it fixes it. FWIW that should all be one roof plane.
  20. Cabinets have a very similar function that converts their "Auto Right/Left" doors into doubles when they hit a threshold, but that value is set in General Cabinet Defaults. Doors don't have a General Default. I'm pretty sure it's hard coded based on the doors. I think most are 4' but Bi-folds are less, around 3'. Sure would be nice to be able to specify it in the different door type defaults, though.
  21. Ah. Yeah sounds like Point to Point is what you need then, since it'll add a Point that can exist anywhere, not associated with anything specifically. Remember though that since Point to Points make a Point Marker to dimension to, in order to adjust the dimension shown, you have to select the Marker, then use the dimension to move the mark. Alternatively, if you know that you need to measure something like rebar at a specific distance, drop a Point Marker or CAD Line, then use Multiple Copy to make as many as you need, then run a Manual Dimension across them (helps to change defaults to locate only CAD in this case)
  22. The Manual Dimension tool locates everything and anything it can. you can control how it detects things to locate by adjusting the Reach in the dimension default. But I'd sooner just use End to End - and add new segments as needed. Indeed it is. Dimensions locate objects and show the distance between. Changing it would be like wanting your ruler to show you a different number -- move the objects and the dimensions will change. Chief has lots of videos on dimensions https://www.chiefarchitect.com/videos/watch/5429/positioning-and-resizing-objects-using-dimensions.html I'd suggest burning through some of them https://www.chiefarchitect.com/videos/watch/5430/using-the-manual-dimension-tools.html and learn how to work with them instead of fighting against them. https://www.chiefarchitect.com/videos/watch/5432/editing-dimensions-and-extension-lines.html
  23. Let me be the first to say: I think there's more going on here than just an ornery elevation... This led me to deleting your roof - which fixed it. Odd that an Elevation dimension would care about a ROOF!! Why would that be? Well let's see what these elevation dimensions care about! OH. Well hello there. Much better.
  24. I've seen this happen when there's a room down below on Floor 1 that's set to have a Roof over it, but Auto Roof is Off. If there's a porch or deck down there, make sure its not trying to build a roof.
  25. I'm curious if anyone else has any clever solutions to this but I don't think there's a good solution unfortunately. Overall the good news is that manually flipping every piece of text on the plan, while arduous, is a lot easier than redrawing the whole thing again! The only tip I know to give here is: Edit Area effectively selects the Rooms, so room specs are retained. And while Room Labels also flop, they auto correct when they're hidden and shown again. If you select a room and use the Marquee Select Same tool you can select and open all rooms, hide labels, open them again and show them again and they'll all be good. Then you just have to rotate the actual text objects. Might just hide all layers but the Text so you can more easily see them all. The All Layers Off layerset is handy for that sorta thing.
