  1. Good morning, In elevation or 3D, is there a way to control / offset the hatch pattern on a wall-by-wall basis? For example, in order to have my CMU begin as a full course on top of its footing, or to have the lap siding start with a full plank on the first / lower row. Thanks once again, Jim
  2. Doug, One possible approach... For this elevation below, I duplicated the layout boxes on top of each other (no offset). I then modified the layout boundaries to show two defined areas, e.g. color as new and black and white as existing. Essentially two jigsaw puzzle pieces side by side. (Layout boxes can be complex polylines and not just rectangles). Then I changed the one layout box to show color. Could work for you. I'm sure the power users might have other approaches. Jim
  3. I worked off a Matterport model recently to do a Chief as-built drawing. I struggled with some dimensional discrepancies compared to building exterior dimensions taken from the plat survey. So, I went to their website to read about their accuracy. They claim 1 percent. This can amount to 6" over 50 feet, which is a lot and not extremely accurate. Something to be aware of. Jim
  4. Thanks! Thank you also! Jim
  5. My corner trim boards show a joint / gap at the floor plate, which I don't like: Is this to be expected? Is there a setting or method to get the materials to merge? Thanks once again, Jim
  6. Thanks Robert. I started with that and got pretty good results. At least for government work. Do you happen to know how to get vertical reveals between each unit to show up? Jim
  7. Good morning, I'm drawing up an as-built plan for an office tenant improvement. Until now I've only been doing residential with Chief... I need to model existing radiator enclosures up against an exterior curtain wall: Just curious how one would approach this. Base cabinet? 3D solid? Thanks again, Jim
  8. Interesting approach. I have not used the niche tool yet. I will try it out. Thanks again, Jim
  9. Thanks for the explanation. Jim
  10. I sent Chief a suggestion to allow trailing zeroes. My very first quarter of college in 1986 I had a surveying class. We had to be in the sheep fields at around 7 AM in the morning with the steel tape. I may still be suffering survey trauma.
  11. I tried this, but it updated all the schedules, not just the one. Not sure I understand the feature, but I probably need to ponder this more. Jim
  12. Thanks. Total bummer. Not end of the world though. Thanks! - Jim
  13. Good morning, I'm drawing my CAD property lines and would like to have zero angle minutes displayed. Right now they are suppressed. I can't figure out where the setting might be. Thanks again for any help. Jim
  14. This is certainly not a top priority question, but I was wondering what's going on with the schedule numbering here? Happens with accidental duplicate schedules and everything back to normal when extra schedules are deleted. I was just curious what Chief's numbering logic is here that produces this. Thanks again, Jim
  15. Thanks Joey. That's kind of the way I've been doing it, or as individual chases. I was wondering if there was a method I was overlooking. Dunno. Just working of a supplied plan. Not able to visit site.
  16. Very helpful video! I recently discovered that same layout tool that allows you to repath the .plan files. Up until now -- for about a year -- I had been repathing each layout view manually one by one! Jim
  17. How do you all usually model wall pilasters / bump-outs on a framed wall? Thanks, Jim
  18. Charles, Update -- ran it by my client and he elected to do no step down due to this very reason. Better accessibility. Jim
  19. Excellente' ! Thanks for quick response. Jim
  20. Good morning, I'm modeling some open (floating) shelves in front of a kitchen window. It occurred to me that doing this with a modified wall cabinet might be a good solution as it conveniently treats the shelves as one unit. So far good results, but how do I get rid of the front vestigial verticals (circled)? Could not find option in dialog box. Thanks again, Jim
  21. I gave that a try, but unsuccessful. That setting appears to be global and when unchecked, the plotter reverts to the system default, in my case Microsoft XPS. Thanks though, Jim
  22. Curious, is there a setting that links the print paper size to the drawing sheet size? I'm ping-ponging between 2 projects with 2 different sheet sizes. So, I'm having to manually reset the sheet sizes when I plot. I thought it'd be nice if paper size could be "locked" to sheet size such as with a check box. Thanks, Jim
  23. If you go to Construction Specifier online magazine and search keyword "polished", there are a number of articles on the topic. Jim
  24. As of today I am now a witness to this rare beast. Very weird! I also described it in another forum post today. Sounds exactly like what you described above. It's as if I selected and deleted all the room labels en masse, but I did not do that best to my knowledge. This has happened multiple times on a project I'm working on today. Jim
