  1. This is nice, I like the interaction that happens on threads like this, I had suggested a forum space or topic for showcasing one's projects....to no avail....
  2. .....If Autodesk buys Chief I will go back to hand drafting
  3. When I mull a door with window/side lights, Chief adds casings (apron) below the windows - how can I fix this?
  4. Is the viewer available for Ipad and Mac OSX?
  5. Look at the plan view of the same model - Why does Chief not know how to resolved the plan view of door sills? Why does the brick not return to the wall? Autocad Architecture has been doing it for 20 years......can it be fixed?
  6. This is a multi question thread (See attached picture) - *Why does chief treat exterior casings differently on a door/window and a garage door? *Why is it that Chief does not have the option to add a sill (rowlock or header brick) AND a soldier or jackarch to a door or window? (I know you can create them with polyline solids but that defeats the purpose of a 3D model - Envisiooner and Softplan have this and it works extremely well) I am pretty sure this has been suggested or discussed before....I would expect that after 20 years of being alive, Chief would have resolved this already
  7. Chief gets very slow when trying to add plants from library or even selecting them while in 3d View - I am using the 2D plants....is this normal?
  8. Better stairs, auto updated elevations and niches seem to be the most requested features for X8 - I could not agree more
  9. You should do the snag it way like Perry.....
  10. Perry you need to post a link to all your snag it videos....thx
  11. So Chief does not do automatic roof slope indicators?
  12. Scott, can you post a sample of a 3D framing set?
  13. it says your plan has no date, make sure you close the plan before zipping it
  14. So there would be a roof over the bathroom? What I am asking is if the bathroom will protrude the roof?
  15. Can someone share their username/password/account info to the old forum? :D
  16. There are TONS of things in Chief were "WE SHOULD NOT HAVE TO DO THAT" >> Seems like I have to learn 2 software programs, Chief and Workarounds
  17. Can you add an appliance via the DBX editing the base cabinet?
  18. We all know where Chief is good and strong at - they should also focus and improve upon where Revit and Archicad are weak at - A lot of that will depend on us, the users and consumers to keep putting pressure on them to keep making CA the best residential design software in the market
  19. What pixel size did you specify? I had to turn mine up to like 9600 pixels per inch to notice a difference
  20. Originally Revit was an engineering software, not architectural - Autodesk has a history of buying out software companies (Revit, Softdesk, 3ds Max, Maya, etc, etc) Hopefully Chief is not on their sight..... P.D. - Did you know Autodesk got rid of their "suggestions/Wishes" forum for Autocad?
  21. Sometimes when walking through a model with a full camera, the lighting will change by itself, sometimes it occurs when I select and object, change something in the 3d View or if I go back and forth from plan to camera view - For example, I was doing a walk and "un-mulled" a door and transom in the camera view and all of the sudden the lighting changed - is this normal? I wish the lighting was consistent, I mean it should always be the same - Sometimes in looks dull, then I move something and BAM it gets bright
  22. There are also other free services such as www.wetransfer.com it allows you to send big files without having to download any programs or have to create any accounts
  23. Try to do "Design options" in any 3D software, they all come short.......Revit, AC, Chief, VW, nothing comes close to plain 2D Autocad The one thing Archicad is awesome at is their sheet/project setup, wish Chief would lean towards that way
  24. I don't think we can evaluate Revit based on your son's experience or lack there of - I know for a fact Revit is an amazing and powerful program - The problem with Revit and with all Autodesk products is that they are not suited for residential design - Specially the Revit "families" (Native objects, content, blocks, etc) are not geared towards our industry. The hardest thing for anyone switching to Revit is creating the necessary content to be productive (make money fast enough, Revit is very expensive and the subscription is 3 or 4x what Chief is) which in some cases can take you 1 to 3 months, but once you get it setup it works very well! CG Visions has a "residential" package for Revit: http://www.cgvisions.com/bim-toolkits.aspx The great thing about Chief is that you can hit the ground running from DAY ONE - pretty awesome.......I will have to be patient with CA, I know it will get better with time
