Any registered structural engineers that can do bracing analysis for 3-story homes? (2 stories + basement) - let me know!

Online stock plans never come with digital files, those are usually 3x the price of the plans (and not everybody offers them) - I agree with the others BUT you should have the builder sign a document that says he will not use your plans for any other purpose than your father in laws house - if he has an issue with that you know he is a crook

Chief has its load of work arounds also! but I have learned to make it fun, enjoy the challenge and just make it work!

Doug one of the issues I would like Chief to address is pasting in copied objects - You should get a "preview" of the object you are inserting, just like when one puts in a door or window or library object etc

Those of us who come from Autodesk products sometimes feel disappointment with Chief's way of doing things so we either get upset or learn to work with it - What I have learn is to use the "Copy this object" tool > then you can move it to the desired location

I don't see the need to bring Vectorworks into this conversation - OP is asking how to do it in Chief - which we will all benefit once a method or solution is found....

The only crashes I have experimented is placing live dormers - it crashes everytime

Do one have to create an invisible exterior room for this to work? can someone explain the process?

Can someone explain why legacy shadows are so nice and crisp? But why do they slow down my system so much? There should be a setting to be able to control/adjust the sharpness of shadows, just like in 3Ds Max etc.

These will need to be attached - the end units are different, the interior units are all the same except some of the basement levels are different......

I have had 2 major crashes like that creating dormers in x7 :wacko:

Ray - would you mind posting an image of a 4 unit setup? how do you handle the different elevations? - BTW my client loves to make changes.....how do you deal with that?

pardon my ignorance where can I find the archives?

Working on a 4 car ranch plan with a detached garage with an office above.....I don't know how or when but I deleted the floor system above the detached garage, so my question is: How do I add it back? When in plan view, double clicking the garage 2nd floor (office) does nothing, nothing selects.....when I try to add a floor it wants to add a 3rd floor to the whole house.......help

OP said all required to draw was this powder room, there is no house context in this

My approach is like this: -Make the room a "no ceiling" under the structure tab -Create a roof plane, set the starting height to match the 62.5" -Create a ceiling plane or soffit plane at the 88.5" ht -Chief wants to add an attic wall on the low side (62.5") I simply converted it to a "solid" rail and set the height to almost nothing Attach is the plan - sorry I am in x7 x7 powder_room_roof.zip

The new object eyedropper is nice....question, will it allow me to copy and paste frieze moldings on roof planes?

see attached - I created a shutter in Autocad, brought it in as a 3d block when I rotate it to be wall mount the floor plan view does not update shutter.zip

Please don't tell me that a rotated 3D Block Chief will not update its 2d view on plan?
