Breaking the Railing wall with the new invisible wall went fine , once I figured out I needed to place the new walls about 10"-12" from the corner to avoid the thickness of the "Invisible layers" of the new railing, otherwise the Wall Break Tool wouldn't work. The Posts on the end are generating automatically for me, maybe half post is turned on in your copy of plan? I usually spec them as that is how I build them (stronger) , but I can't find the right setting to get rid of the post in the Corner , so have a wonderful 3 post design at present want to say Thanks again , for spending some time on this for me......

Thanks Joe ....but could you check the file , it imported fine into X5 ,but on clicking on the file in the Library, it showed blank ? nothing in either preview window , which was closely followed by the Nvidia Driver crashing , causing X5 to close down too. I thought we couldn't post calibz to the forum? is that a clue to it's issue? thought we had to zip them 1st? or have they changed that ? M.

Nice Joe , we were try to figure this out about 2 months ago on the Symbols forum ,what Board and Batten symbol did you apply ? cos at least in X5 there isn't one ? I only have the one I came up with in the Symbols thread. Perhaps from one of the Manufacturer's Lib.s ? I have since Read that CertainTeed has one in there siding lib. but it isn't real 3d either. thanks.

I always put a showerpan in from the library and adjust size and height so the plan view shows a shower tray then I use the Soffit panel I made to make the panels and door etc .personally I am not worried about the handle etc usually , it looks good enough, so the soffit trick works and is quick and easy. on my netbook today but here is a version of the panel , unzip/extract and import the calibz as normal.it set 4" above the floor by default but you can change all that once dropped into the plan. 34 in Shower Glass Panel.zip

Personally I don't like the glass shower wall as it is "seen" by CA as a Wall and thus auto joins etc and I find it causes more issues than it solves , so I just made 80"X34"x3/8" cabinet Soffits ,with the Material set as Standard glass ( so it is clear ,Tempered shows blue-ish in CA) and added them to the library and now resize and use them on each job. depending on the height of your shower tray you'll need to change the height off the floor too.

Thanks Glenn , I changed the wall thicknesses around to try and stop the "shimmering" on the Rim joist, but something weird is going on, when I opened the plan this morning ,and opened the saved Cross section on the back deck everything had moved over ,and back into the deck , and left the Cad lines and boxes I had done a test detailing with behind , so you maybe right about using zero width walls. I had changed some of the wall thickness around to make the wall lines disappear in the section view ,but they were back as well. Maybe my GTX275 on the Office Comp. is causing the "shimmering" but I see the white bleeding from/into the Rim joist at the edge of the deck at what looks like the wall thickness line. Does it show for you? not sure if its CA or my comp . on this aspect. Could you post a pic of your Deck Railing>Wall types >Define DBX please , i'd like to try your Settings. Thx.

did you do your reshaping ,sizing etc BEFORE you converted to a countertop?... once it is an "object" the edit parts tool doesn't work (does it ?) as it's no longer a CAD line. If you break the polyline and touch a section with the edit parts tool , it straightens that part of the curve, (my experience to date) but I don't play with custom counter tops often and use the arcs tool usually, maybe more options in X6? but not sure you can multi-select on a closed polyline , it just causes it to give you the "move" selection handle. same here doesn't happen 100% of the time but pretty frequently.....

Thanks Glenn , things went better today , I had tried making a "template" of all my default settings in a plan and I think it was screwing things up yesterday somehow so deleted it, and went back to the Standard profile.plan today to start and things went better .... The Railing width wasn't an issue, easy fix as mentioned , it just happened to be the only "thing" I saw different yest. after trying different settings. Once I figured out how the wall layers were working and their widths it went ok , didn't get to the 2 post Corner tonight but so far not too bad. May be how my wall thickness are set as I see "shimmering" in the rim joist materials between Rustic Alder and the PT Wood, so tried changing some rim joists to white which seemed to help. I found I didn't need to change the wall type back to normal once the other settings were done , in a cross section view I could click on the railing which gave me a height measurement ,which was editable , I just clicked on it , didn't alter anything, and hit enter and the railing dropped down to the bottom of the Rim Joist. What's the best way to "save" these settings in X5 for reuse ? possible? thanks for taking a look , appreciate it. Mick. Fascia Mount Deck Railing_X5.zip

haven't seen it as Code anywhere but I have seen it mentioned on TV shows (Flip This) eg about L.A.,Cali., that it can't legally be called a bedroom for Real Estate advertising Purposes and can thus adversely effect the Selling Price. ie a 4 bed house is worth way more than a 3bed... just cos it has a 2ft wide closet..... nevermind the room is now 9'X9' M.

it happens all the time here and on Hometalk when you edit a (recent?) post , Copy your reply goto the full editor , paste it in if the full editor removes the formatting and hit post. Usually works for me.... or just goto the full editor straight off and it doesn't seem to happen.

if you don't uncheck Cookies before you run CCleaner it will delete them all and you'll need to start at square one....been there, done that.... had to re-enter my ID , PW etc on all the forums/website etc I belong too M.

might be your internet cache/cookies if it still shows the old email in the login possibly ?

Thx for the info Scott , I'll try and find that video too , it'll be nice not to have to tell client's my software can't "draw" the rails how I'm really going to build them , if I can sort this out. M.

I'm missing something obvious or using the wrong railing tools , not sure ? adding an extra 3 1/2" layer (Post width) only seems to make the top and bottom Rails wider ,but the posts don't move. Perhaps the wrong layer is assigned as "Main" layer ? ( I can change the railing width in the DBX if needed but , I don't get your result.) Did you start with the Straight Deck Railing Tool ? or Straight Deck Edge Tool , and add your own railing to it? Not sure if you have time for a step by step or a Video , but thanks for the help so far. M.

I now think I was thinking about the check box for Home Designer Titles but even that only works if it is the same year/version. Had a bit of a play but no luck yet getting your results yet. M.

AMD ......don't you have the bonus Beam Catalog it has a C-Channel in it along with 2-3 other steel beams/flanges etc? might not be what you wanted of course but it is horizontal by default by the looks of it. M.

Migrating X6 To A New Computer (Including All Libraries)
Kbird1 replied to designbuild928's topic in General Q & A
While looking at the KBase for something else I came across this article on moving CA to a new Computer ,thought it might help..... http://www.chiefarchitect.com/support/article/KB-00001/ M. -
Ok for some reason I thought I had read/seen that you could allow when saving for older versions to at least view the file ie read only.... guess I am wrong about that .... thanks I'll give it a go..... Mick.

Hi Glenn , is it possible for you to save that plan so I can open it in X5 please ? you must have file locking on in the Prefs?, thanks again, Mick.

Saw you other post thx for the reply .......Cant you work in X5 please some nice Stuff , maybe one day i'll be able to use it.Thx.

I see that wall framing turn up when I have Energy Heel Trusses too , which means the exterior wall ply and Finish must go upto the bottom of the top chord , not sure how many Framer's would actually build a wall there , it's more likely to be a solid block eg a 2x10" or 2x 12" depending on the Energy heel height. Looks like your Rafter depth is set different from the Truss top chord depth for the drywall issue? M.

Apologies for not getting back to this earlier Glenn , yes that looks just about perfect , I'll download your Rail2 zip file and hopefully I can open it and figure it out alongside your Description. thanks a lot for the time taken. Not sure why CA makes it so diffircult though it's been an EON since you were allowed deck mounted posts or posts notched around the double Rim , you cant model post inside the rim or outside the fascia the only to acceptable solutions for Timber Post, in elevation/cross Section the don't extend below the decking either so you have to Draw in those parts yourself.... thankfully not to often. I've only seen that when I didn't realise I wasn't logged in for some reason , ever tried hitting the back button from the search results after looking at a link? everytime I get a webpage expired message. have to reload hit yes try again etc etc.... if you hit back again you end up back on the forum and do you whole search again.
