  1. Thank you Mark. I'm getting there. The ortho camera is quite cool. I needed to use the back view as when using top, it was necessary to delete the roof planes to see underneath and by doing so I had nothing to trace for my molding as the ceiling was then gone. Attached are some images for anyone that might be following and unfamiliar with using a ortho camera. Michael states under step 8 "Cut that closed polyline, paste into a plan view." I tried pasting in the plan view and nothing shows up. He says "a" plan view which leads me to believe I have to create a new one or do I paste it back into the ortho camera view? Either way, I don't see my polyline so that I can convert to molding.
  2. Mark thanks. I'm still not getting it. Do I go back to plan view or this orthographic view that I just created what you're calling the "plan view"? I'm not sure where I am to use the "make parallel/perpendicular tool". Not that this part really matters if I am unable to position the newly created molding line. I usually pick these things up quite quickly - not the case here. I appreciate the feedback.
  3. Michael - thanks for the explanation. I am not following at all. In step 2 you instruct to create an orthographic full overview and in step 3 you say to use the 3D > View direction. Are these steps "either or"? I already have the shape. It was drawn in FormZ and imported into Chief. But, I am not able to get it to attach to the ceiling slope (whether specified as flush mounted to ceiling or default location). I can get close, but when I move it slightly upward in a camera view, it disappears. I have tried moving it from a clipped cross section - evidently it is not possible to move objects in such views as I don't see the bounding box or the move handle. I have also used a cross section and deleted surfaces so that I can see what I'm doing. Every time I move the molding, the deleted surfaces reappear making it impossible to position. Your explanation above is using methods & tools that I have yet to try. I have not been able to get past step 2. Thanks again.
  4. Dermot. I went ahead and created the symbol in FormZ and imported back into Chief. I really like your idea of using it as a flush mounted from ceiling object, but cannot get it to work. Would you mind taking a look at the symbol and let me know where I've gone wrong? I have attached the .plan and .calibz file. Thanks! tray applied molding.calibz tray_applied_molding.plan
  5. Eric - I think your method would work, but these aren't ceiling planes - they're roof planes. When I make a symbol from them, the intersections are not taken into account. Is it possible to generate a non-orthographic elevation in CA (a section view perpendicular to the roof plane where I can outline this shape with a molding polyline)?
  6. Thanks Everyone. Eric - I didn't realize you could convert a ceiling/roof plane into a symbol. I'll give this a try when I get to the office. Thanks again.
  7. I've got a 12/12 tray ceiling to which I want to apply a base cap molding - see attached. I have tried using a 3D molding polyline drawn in an elevation view and rotating. Doesn't work. Could anyone tell me how you would go about doing this? Thanks, Kevin
  8. I was able to get them to work. Under railing make sure to check "balusters" and under "newels/balusters" set balusters to square or whatever. I'd attached the file, but I'm using X12 and this was created in X11.
  9. t Thanks Mick. I started with X11, so didn't even know these existed. Kevin
  10. Thanks Alan. I appreciate you looking into this. I will let you know what CA says about this glitch.
  11. Thanks Steve. I think you've hit on the problem. I am using X12 with the stair break tool. I will report this to Chief. Also, the stairs when drawn did not automatically open the 2nd floor platform. I had to create a well from the 2nd floor using "open below".
  12. Alan - thanks for looking at this. Would you mind uploading your corrected .plan file? I'm not getting the same result no matter what. That said, my file has gotten a lot more complicated as I completed the kitchen layout. Kevin
  13. Steve - do you happen to have the file with your corrections? I am trying as you suggest and I get what's shown in the image below. The file is now too large to upload. Thanks!
  14. Thank you Eric. Now that I know it's not user error, I will report to CA.
  15. Thanks Steve. I think your solution is the best I can do for now. I appreciate the help. Kevin
  16. Thanks Ryan. I did put a second floor on the building as I thought this might correct things - no luck... I think Steve's solution is the best for now.
  17. Thanks Steve. If I remove the invisible wall, how do I differentiate the ceiling heights? The kitchen area is 9' and the great room is 10'. You are correct, there is a single header member that surround the cut-out for the stairs.
  18. Thanks Steve. That's getting me much closer. I still have a small part missing. Any ideas? Thanks again, Kevin
  19. Perry - thanks for the reply. When I untick "invisible", I get the attached. I'm wondering if I can do this with one large doorway with no casings or jamb. Or would this cause other issues? Renee - I did use an invisible wall. The entire downstairs has 9' ceilings with only the great room at 10'. There is no soffit in the kitchen. I couldn't tell you how the place is framed as I haven't been on the second floor yet. I was just trying to get an illustration together for the kitchen. I don't follow when you say "just delete the invisible wall and it will right itself". This was initially drawn as a room divider. Thanks for the input. Kevin
  20. I've got a 9' ceiling next to a 10' ceiling. The wall surface where they meet won't fill in with drywall - 1st image attached. The second image is an actual photo of the space, however, from the other direction. I've used a room divider as a break between these different ceiling heights. Would someone please show me how this is done? Plan is also attached. Thanks, Kevin CHF_Fabrizio_Kitchen_02-14-20.plan
  21. Thanks Mark. You're right - it isn't that big of a deal - just thought there'd be a feature for that. In this case I can always add the lines after exporting to layout or remove them using the edit tools. Kevin
  22. Mark - I've got another question regarding your end panel hack. In a vector/illustration view, the joint where the rails meets the stiles is missing on the cabinet sides. The door/drawer fronts look just fine. Is there a way to have these show up? Kevin
