  1. Thanks Michael. You are correct on all points. I didn't know the limitations of the tool until I saw Steve's video. Having an AutoCAD background, I was hoping for perfect alignment; however, your recommendation of using a CAD mask will do the trick. Thanks again!
  2. Wow. Thanks Steve. I definitely have a better understanding of how the tool works. Putting some transparency on the framing layer really helped to see how CA was creating the intersections. Again, the video is very much appreciated. Kevin
  3. Steve - When I select the smallest wall, I get 6 edit handles (image attached). Are all 6 of these handles specific to this smallest wall or do they pertain to the adjacent walls too? Sorry, but this is confusing to me and I can't see clearly what to do in this case. My first thought is to create a miter, but moving the handles does not produce this... Help!
  4. Steve - thanks for the input. I do know about wall layer intersections, but not really sure what I'm doing in this case. I've watched Chief's videos on the subject using X6, but they don't really go into a lot of explanation. You wouldn't happen to have a video on your YouTube page, would you? I believe I have watched all your videos and don't recall seeing one. Is the goal here to miter the wall layers or connect them in another manner? Resize about Inner Surface is my default setup as I do so many as-builts measured from the interior. Thanks again for you help. Kevin
  5. Thanks Alan. I've tried that a few times and my wall dimensions change. When I attempt to correct their size, the joint breaks again.
  6. I got three new issues with this plan. How do I resolve the two circled intersections? I've tried the wall intersection layer tool, but having no luck. Also, there's a return air vent where marked and the framer used two 2 x 4 studs back to back. Is there a way to get the walls to sit next to each other? I'm having all kinds of weird things going on when I pull the outer wall over. I will remove the drywall from this unfinished area, but wanted to know the process to keep CA from joining these walls. Thanks again, Kevin CHF_David 1st Floor_AS-BUILT_02-25-20_V2.plan
  7. Thanks Eric. I just stumbled on that technique of over drawing and then adjusting... Kevin
  8. Joe - thanks. What I haven't drawn yet is a pantry behind this wall, so the 13.5" thickness does not apply to the space behind - only the 3.25" projection is this wide. I suspect this projection was scabbed onto the interior 4 framing and was hoping to replicate it the same way. I guess I'll know more when I start laying out the kitchen. I suppose in this case, Alan's method would work and I could always use your suggestion of a doorway. Thanks again.
  9. Thanks Alan. I'll give that a try. Kevin
  10. When I try to return the wall in the 3.25" direction, it disconnects from the adjacent walls.
  11. I've got an as-built I'm starting this morning. There are several walls with varying thicknesses that I need to connect correctly. I am not so much worried about how they are actually framed, but want a clean connection for my floor plan view. I am wondering the proper way to handle the attached situation. I have drawn red CAD lines to denote the shape I'm trying to achieve. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Kevin CHF_David 1st Floor_AS-BUILT_02-25-20.plan
  12. I did make several versions of the texture with coordinate offsets. It really is too much trouble and any similar door/drawer types are locked to use the same texture unless I add them individually in the Front/Sides/Back DBX. This is one area I wish Chief would improve on. It would be nice to have a fixed starting point (such as world 0,0) for the textures to project from. This would make all mapping unique as long as the symbols don't occupy the same space. Thanks again Eric.
  13. One more thing - at 12:18 in your video you say to make sure to control-select the symbol. Why is this?
  14. Thanks Michael. I did finally get it yesterday although it took me several hours of playing around. I sent the sketch to the client and she hated the applied molding (thought it was too formal). Anyway, at least I learned a lot from the exercise. Thanks again for the video. Kevin
  15. Here's what I'm taking about with the textures.
  16. Thank you Eric. I was able to get it to work. Is there a method to get more grain variation on a cabinet instead of having the textures repeat for similar parts? I would think the global setting would take care of this as I thought it worked in world texture space starting from 0,0. What is the proper way to achieve this without manipulating each individual part? Thanks again for the help! Kevin
  17. Thanks Chopsaw. I started over from scratch and got it to work. I appreciate the help!
  18. I found some hidden objects. The file is now attached. test.zip
  19. I tried to upload the file and am told I have exceeded the limit of 25MB. The zipped file is only 24.9MB. I've gotten rid of everything except the two doors including CAD details, unused materials, etc. and I still can't lower it. Is there a compression utility within CA that can minimize the file size? Thanks Chop!
  20. Here's the library file... X door.calibz
  21. I don't think so. The door shown on the left is before the conversion to symbol. The one on the right is the symbol after creation. I also checked the textures and they should be working. Attached is the file. Any ideas? Thanks.
  22. The door is a symbol that I had made previously. I placed it in the plan as a fixture and added the three parts to form the X. I then selected all four pieces to include the placed fixture and converted to a symbol. I also assigned two unique materials to the X members - one rotated -34 degrees and the other +34 degrees. When this new symbol was created, the wood texture reverts to its state before rotating. Attached is the Symbol Specification DBX. As you can see the materials are assigned correctly, but the preview image is all wrong. Any ideas?
  23. I'm creating an X cabinet door. The center stiles that form the "X" need to have the grain following the length of the member. I have tried creating two new materials and rotating them, however, when I create the symbol, the texture direction reverts back to the usual position. How do I go about doing this? Thanks!
